Pony Request: A MetaFilter FAQ whose answers are links to the relavent MetaTalk threads that answer the question.

Many redundant questions keep coming up in MetaTalk and the responses are usually links to MetaTalk threads that will answer the question. Would it be possible to make a FAQ that points to the appropriate MetaTalk threads for these reoccurring questions? Maybe someone can go through MetaTalk once a week and add the questions and answers of things that shouldn't have to come up again.

Example:

Q. Some users have customized user pages, can I have a customized user page?

A: See here

Go for it.

I'm working on a faq where users can submit questions and me and jessamyn work up answers, then categorize them into a list of questions and answers. It should come together in the next week or so.

Q: Who exactly is this jonson I keep hearing about?

A: He's a dashing young rogue, a charming raconteur whose devil may care attitude has landed him in the occasional scrape, but never for longer than a nunce, as his puckish outlook & populist appeal always seem to win out in the long run. Once, he got into an argument with rushmc that became an argument with y2karl & like 16 other people. But then they all forgave him and agreed it was a good time all around.

A faq would be nice. There is the highly obscure and hard to find / not so prominent / nonobviously named MeFi Wiki that sort of kind of serves as a FAQ, but it doesn't contain all the FAQs I can think of.

Plus it tends to focus on herbal viagra and whatnot.

There's a herbalviagra?

twiggy, while we're waiting for Matt to fix up the real thing for us, why not add your questions to the Wiki page yourself? It could be helpful.

Could we have a link to this new FAQ added to the Post a Link page for MetaTalk, just as a reminder for those who may not have thought to look there before posting?

Gator: To be totally honest - I thought about it.

Here is why I am not:

Because the last time I asked a question on MeTa that was not found anywhere on a FAQ, the entire community proceeded to take a big gigantic poop on me, and so I'm a little sour at the moment and not feeling like spending my own precious spare time doing work for that very same community.

It's not my way of saying "Screw you guys" or anything, but I work full time, run a web hosting / development business on the side, play poker as yet another "part time job", and in the midst of all that, also try to have some semblance of a life.

I love MeFi (particularly, as of late, Ask), but given the circumstances of my last question, my perceived value of spending any free time updating things or the MeFi community dropped severely. I'll still help out on Ask when I can, because I enjoy it.

Oh and as an FYI if it doesn't seem "all that bad" if you bother digging for the aforementioned question: Matt deleted a ton of stuff that was far worse than what's left in there.

Well, what was your FAQ, at least?
