Lofi for Metatalk? August 5, 2003 5:40 AM Subscribe
Is there an equivalent of lofi.mefi for metatalk? Miguel's rambling novel-writing-question seems to have been canned, and I want to see a) What Matt said about it, and b) what all the snippy comments after mine looked like. How about it?
I prefer being able to forget that Miguel thread ever existed. Thanks for jogging my memory.

bonaldi,
next time (it'll happen again, sadly) you just need to save the thread if you find it funny/sad/scary/all of the above.
MetaTalk deletion means that it will be impossible to reload the thread

This thread should get canned, but be referenced in another. The thrill of thread envy will grow with each remove.

Give me a break, XQ. As Rory so eloquently said, MetaFilter is made up of actual people, and some of us enjoy doomed meltdown threads, even though Matt doesn't like them. Yes, he deleted it, and we all understand why. Nevertheless, some of us would like to have a record of it to chuckle over. Is that so terrible? Sheesh.

I understand that, languagehat. But since Matt doesn't like them, he has the right to get rid of them, and much as I also enjoy contributing to lost/doomed threads now and then, when Matt deletes it I don't complain "hey, why did you get rid of that thread? It was doomed for deletion!"
So XQ, can you tell just by the taste what Matt had for lunch yesterday?
Seriously though, I do agree, if I was running a website I wouldn't tolerate much crap, especially not keep it around so the fool who did it can look at it later while I pay for the hosting.

The point, surely, is that putting the merits of reading deleted threads to one side for a moment, the ability is already there in mefi. I just wondered if it was there for MetaTalk too.
It's a shame it isnt. Schadenfruede is not only hard to spell, it's fun too.

matt, regardless of how he feels about the issue has another problem: the two "sections" of metafilter have diverged codewise over a few years - i think it would at this point be a daunting task with little or no payoff (from matts perspective) to attempt to bring all the widgets, ponies and geegaws he's wedged into the blue, into the gray.

The Post, As I Remember It:
"It was bound to happen. I am writing a novel wherein a MeFi member is momentarily challenged over his attitude towards women. His basic character template is stereotypical American leftist, but he has some custom features: He is from San Francisco and/or Vancouver, he is reassuringly gay, he is a hard worker, he is alone by choice, he is snide when appropriate, and he wears a remastered Van Halen CD as an earring. Which member fits this profile? I need to flesh out this thinly-drawn little dud(e), and I would appreciate y'alls' help."
Anyone have anything to add? Rewrites? Edits?
