The shadowy back alleys of MetaFilter...

I've scoured the last 1000 MetaFilter-related MeTa posts and my sleep-deprived brains to come up with a list of pages and files that aren't officially linked anywhere, or are relatively unknown. Find here the remnant .gifs of one-off tweaks and limited-time promotions, ideas and directions abandoned or undeveloped, and there's also a couple of interesting files hosted at MetaFiltr. I feel like there's a lot missing from the list (ie I'm pretty sure BRAND_NEW_DAY.gif is hosted somewhere on metafilter.com) so feel free to add anything I missed. Here goes:

None of which is apparently organized or reachable through the main page of the wiki other than through "The Index".

Not to mention that the wiki itself can be hard to find since there is no link to it from the Metafilter Front Page or from AskMe.

Given the current state of the wiki, tossing this stuff in there is only moving it a very small step above "Forgotten".

read the wiki! read the archives!

Yeah the wiki flat structuring isn't ideal, but the fact that anyone can mess with it means that it's much easier to get things up quickly and easily. Maybe we should start with some categories. Oh hey look, I just did! There are a few other ways to find stuff on the wiki.

- the search box on the wiki actually does search the site
- googling
- the recent changes page
- you could follow me or cortex around
- you could login and create a watch list
- you could click on one of these Special Pages

I do get your point tkolar, but I think a better idea would be more visibility for the wiki here at MeFi and also maybe some better tools for grouping and finding stuff on the wiki generally. It's a great way for enthusiastic members to help out by putting stuff together in neat new ways and keeps modtime free for doing moddish stuff.
