I was wondering, has anyone has ever charted the tangled web of linked to/by relationships, or if that was even feasible with datamuckery? It's approaching four years since the great enspousening, and I was wondering how we are all interconnected.

If it hasn't been done and it is possible, I will now take this moment to kindly ask smarter folks to do so. MetaFilter relationships are not private, so I figure this wouldn't be crossing into "forbidden knowledge" territory.

Charting it is entirely doable; anybody who wants to have a go at it can use the Contact Data file in the Infodump.

Making a readable chart is the harder part, because it tends to be a very densely tangled mess depending on your method of visualization. Here's a very small example of a related graph I made years ago (this using faves data). Other folks have done similar things at least once or twice more recently as well.

Indeed. I tried to do this some time back. I got some graphics that were beautiful, but none that I would call readable.

Oh, I was going to do a map of interconnected mefites for a data visualization project that never ever materialized. I think Bungie was hiring a data-visualization person and I just wanted to work there, and I needed a project, I guess.

I asked Cortex about it in an email. Location data is not public and is a no-go. And user nodes would have to be anonymous dots so people couldn't be outed. (if you wanted to use location data) and if not, just over an arbitrary plane with usernames would be fine.

I am Brandon's for real neighbor, we live about 4 short blocks apart. He has a lovely wife. What I've sometimes wondered is whether there are mefites that I've known well in other times/places, so many of us move around.

The core of people that I hang out with, like, multiple times a week, they're all MeFites. Which I wonder a little bit if that's been why we've been slack with IRL — like, we looked around on Saturday, and it was already an informal meetup.

Does that joke work in English?
"When the world was young, and the woods were wide and wild, the Ents and the Entwives – and there were Entmaidens then: ah! the loveliness of Fimbrethil, of Wandlimb the lightfooted, in the days of our youth! – they walked together and they housed together. But our hearts did not go on growing in the same way: the Ents gave their love to things that they met in the world, and the Entwives gave their thought to other things, for the Ents loved the great trees, and the wild woods, and the slopes of the high hills; and they drank of the mountain-streams, and ate only such fruit as the trees let fall in their path; and they learned of the Elves and spoke with the Trees.

Is that not how marriage works?

I find that this does not apply to my marriage, but when I was (much) younger, a man that I respected said there were three kinds of sex after marriage:

1. Kitchen sex, where you get so hot for each other that you have sex in any room of the house, even the kitchen.
2. Bedroom sex, where you've cooled down a bit, and your sex is not mostly in the bed.
3. Hallway sex, which is where you say 'fuck you' at each other as you pass in the hallway.

I'm definitely in need of some new spouses this year. Current spouses, you have not stepped up to the plate since the baby's birth. Not a single diaper change or late night feeding by the lot of you. It takes an internet village to raise a child, folks. Spouses who will rise to the challenge and pay child support, step right up.
