We had a great day of eating lunch at our favorite local place, learning that our beloved youngster-groundhog was indeed alive and living under the juniper bushes, and just generally goofing off. We took a nice walk through a friend's neighborhood in Tiverton, RI. It was a pleasure being her arm candy as we toodled around. Thanks for the wishes for the birthday girl, everyone!

I enjoy birthday weekend. When I was a kid it was always a headache to have a birthday right when school was starting. Now it mostly works. Me and Jim and my sister spent most of the weekend down in MA at my dad's place. An incomplete list of things we did....
- visited a cat sanctuary that we'd donated some money to (one of those "give us your car" things) to see their semi-feral cat colony.
- goofed around with the stuffed animal heads that Kate had gotten "for the house"
- food, so much food, and cake
- Frugal Franks snack run
- aforementioned groundhog spotting
- pretty amazing Portuguese food
- Went looking for swans but only saw a goose. Kate chatted up the Harbormaster about how you DNA sex a swan
- finished one book, started another
- saw some gigantic bugs at Town Farm and tried to coerce donkeys to get head scratches from us
- enjoyed the social media birthday machine
Then last night I went to bed in an empty house, after everyone had gone home and felt fortified to get up and start easing back into my Real Life™ a place I haven't seen much of since the 4th of July. Thank you everyone.
