Happy New Year everyone!!
This year, I’m organizing the Valentine card swap with the guidance of our awesome, talented the primroses were over and mochapickle.
This is a casual valentine card exchange and there is no pressure.
You will be matched with a group of 5, 10 or 20 awesome meFites to send and receive valentines within your group. Signup closes at 12pm Eastern time on Friday Jan 13th. I’ll email you the addresses by Jan 15th. If you had signed up and didn’t receive email by Jan 17th, please memail me.
If you have signed up and unable to send for some reason or if you don’t want to send cards but still would love to receive card, just memail me. I would be happy to send you one.
Does it matter what kind of valentines I send?
Not one bit. Construction paper hearts, dorky kids' valentines from grade school, masterpieces of doilies and ribbon, postcards dappled with heart stickers, your kitten's pawprints on the back of a CVS receipt, it's all good. The important thing is just to share some love and happiness through the mail at a time when most of us could use a little more of that.

I am so grateful to SunPower for taking this on. I was worried I would run out of energy to get this done and be the valentines grinch, but she has saved metafilter-valentines-ville. Yay!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is there a drop dead required mail-by date to participate? I wanna (!), but life, man, so, like secret beans, when might I be required to have my valentine's postmarked?

As a participant, I think of the spirit of MeFi card swap stuff as just "do your best", and that's good enough. Life happens, late mail is a nice surprise in its own right. I've certainly been slow getting stuff out sometimes, and I've never gotten grief for it, and I've always enjoyed other people's cards whenever they do show up.

atomicstone, exactly what cortex said. I have been a member of card club for a year now and I love getting cards anytime. NO pressure and NO deadlines………

I’ve taken a long hiatus from Card Club (“Life Stuff”—nothing at all to do with Card Club!) and this sounds like the perfect way to ease back in. Just signed up and can’t wait to get my list!

Yaaay, thank you for taking this on, SunPower! I'm going to sit this one out because I plan on moving around this time, but I'm happy to know it is a thing that is happening. I encourage everyone to do it, the variety of what you receive is so much fun.

Then stuff happens; for October it was Covid. Everything just slowed way down.
For December/Holiday, it's a fractured shoulder (my partner) just before the holidays, suddenly I don't have my prep cook, my co-dishwasher, my weekend cat box cleaner. Also doctor visits, insurance wrangles, and putting up all the holiday decor and taking on all the holiday plans.
I'm philosophical about it, and hope folks enjoy the card when it finally reaches them. But in a few cases, the card gets returned to me as undeliverable. Then I verify the address and try to resend, but sometimes I can't as things have changed for the addressee but maybe they didn't see my MeMail message? These things happen, too.
Take on what you can, give yourself a deadline if that helps, and do the best you can if things go awry. I love the cards I get whenever I get them!

I got my cards yesterday and am excited to get my list!
Just a heads up to people in the US, postage stamp prices are going up on January 22, so you may want to get those now if you need them.

If you had signed up and you didn’t receive the email or if you have any problems with the list that you have received, please let me know.
Most of the participants have mentioned that they are willing to send extra cards for the latecomers. So, I’m keeping the signup open for one more week. Anyone, who is seeing this post now or who is still thinking of signing up or want a card, but not up to participating or for any other questions, you can memail me.
I’ll be out all day tomorrow. If you send email tomorrow, expect reply on Monday only or tomorrow night if I have the energy left after a long day.

I received my first (early) valentine today! Thank you, Like the Night!!!
I’ve been working on mine and this morning was able to make a trip to the post office to restock my stamp stash, so will be sending mine out in the next couple of days.

I was waiting to mail my cards by end of this month. But, when I received my first/second Valentine cards yesterday, I was so pumped up , I couldn’t wait longer and mailed them today. Cupid will be delivering mine soon…….💌💌
