Pony Request: a search function for MeMail. We're able to search our activity and favorites, and I'd love to be able to do the same for MeMail. I know MeMail isn't meant to replicate the features of services like Gmail, but I think this particular function would be really useful.

Around a year ago there was an idea floated about favorite categorization. I think that this would be a great feature for the site. Is it still in the "too ambitious" pile of site features, or have the coders taken another look at it since then?

I thought there was a page that listed Mefites on different social networks, i.e. Mefites on Flickr, Twitter, et al, with their associated usernames on said sites. I'm not thinking of the aggregated
twitter/

Let's establish first of all that I'm a complete moron. Ok, with that out of the way, every great once in a while I've managed to find where to go to do metafilter mail. I'm never sure how I did it, and I can never seem to repeat it. I've just clicked about every link I could on my profile and contacts list and elsewhere, and can't access it. Now, since I'm, again, a moron, I'd never suggest that you place a clearer link to this feature. But can someone deign to give me a URL, a clue....something? Many thanks!

Here's a little
quoting bookmarklet for Metafilter threads that I thought folks might find useful. Highlight a text snippit you'd like to quote and click the bookmarklet. It'll format the snippit as a quote and paste it into the comment box for you.

It's a new version of the sites designed for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Try it out on the device, songs from MeFi Music even play in the device (works best on wifi of course). A short video if it in action is inside.

We've finally finished a several month long project today by reworking the back end of Metafilter to bring site security practices up to date. The new login system
we were testing yesterday is now live for everyone. And you can even change your password now, after 8 years of everyone asking!

I added some quick hacky iCal support to the upcoming meetups sidebar here on MetaTalk. Hit the "iCal" link to get a properly formatted calendar file you can subscribe to and see all the upcoming meetups in your calendar of choice.

There's a new user history interface, at http://www.metafilter.com/activity/(your user ID). It's linked on user pages now and provides a consistent view of your posts, comments, and things favorited by others (including a new most popular favorited list from your history). Three cheers for
pb for building it, it should be much easier to use and more consistent than the previous way we did things.

I added a new feature: Custom CSS for profile pages. You simply create a .css file on your own server, write whatever CSS you want, and it will load after all the mefi CSS when anyone views your user page.
Here's mine (which loads
this). Just plop in the URL of your custom CSS file on your server in your user prefs.
Be sure to post here when you've got something cool to show. Let the ugliness/coolness begin!

Recent changes:
1) I finally updated the MetaTalk posting page to be more like the rest of the site, and added titles. RSS will soon have titles added. Also, no more "bugs" category as the generic catch-all, as I force you to pick one.
2) - For firefox 2.0 and IE7 users, you might notice being on a mefi site,
the upper right search box is glowing or highlighted. If you click it, you can add a server-wide MeFi search (using the Google aggregated results from all *.metafilter.com sites) and search directly from your browser.

I'm testing out ajax favorites on MeFi right now (only www.metafilter.com). If you open any thread you can add the post or any comment as a favorite without leaving the page. Lemme know if you hit any snags and please hold off on "
but, but, can you also make it do x?" requests until we're sure it works in most all browsers.

MeFi Music rev 2 feature blowout!!! Things added today:

New Charts showing top favorites/playlists added in just the last three days (for new, awesome stuff you might have missed) and favorites/playlists from your contacts (what your friends like, you probably like too).

playlists have podcast feeds, so you can just add it to iTunes and download the songs directly. When you add new songs to your playlist, iTunes can recheck and pull down those new ones as well.

tag pages have podcast feeds and an embedded player. Want to hear everything tagged with hiphop in iTunes? Now you can.
- songs/comment history has been added to user pages, including a podcast feed for each and every user so if you want a copy of every song ever done by say,
cortex, you can. Also added the embedded player to song history pages.
- more fixes coming later today, but I wanted to get the word out on the new features.

MeFi Music. Built in 12 hours with help from
pb, it's still got some rough edges and features to come, but for now you can upload a song you've written and recorded (this isn't for file sharing), stream it from the front page or from
its own page (where you can also leave comments). You can add things to playlists and
stream those too. And
the RSS feed is a podcast you can drag into iTunes to suck down every mp3 that gets posted. I'm sure there are bugs and the color scheme was slapped together in five minutes, but expect to see things ironed out in the next couple weeks and I'll add it to the global nav for all sites when it feels complete. New features for favorites: favorited posts and comments from your contacts have been added to your
usercontacts page and there's
a page for all favorites from your contacts. This should be useful for finding stuff you may have missed, but that people you trust and enjoy reading deemed worth of saving.
People that marked something as a favorite are no longer shown below each post, but
on their own page. On
your own favorites page you can now see who else marked the same item as a favorite, and the
recent popular favorites page now lists comments as well as posts. Whew.
