Help me find this long-ago post on the blue about a singer who vanished
Many years ago, there was a post on the blue about a troubled young woman singer who recorded a few acoustic tracks and then (died? disappeared? left the music industry?). They were achingly sad and lonely. I remember in particular an absolutely devastating cover of the Beatles song Don't Let Me Down. There were also some originals, including, I seem to recall, one about a guy named Sam. Google and site search have failed me — does anyone remember this? [more inside]
Local music library streaming thread
I’m looking for a thread from the past month about a few libraries (Seattle and San José are the two I remember) who set up streaming services for local unsigned bands. Searches for “music streaming libraries” or the cities in question haven’t shown me the thread. Help?
Would music posts be welcome on FanFare?
I have never understood why a subsite for discussing "TV, movies, podcasts, and books" is not also for discussing music. But, at a scan, that subsite is truly never used for music. Could it be? As in, is that currently allowed and, if not, would such a change be welcome in this community? [more inside]

Metatalktail Hour: Voight-Kampff, except it's songs
Is it time for a test game? How about this: I'll post a song, then the next person posts a song it reminds them of — either lyrically, thematically, rhythmically, or just overall vibe. The next person does the same for that song. And so on. Let's see where we end up, and maybe discover a few new tunes along the way! (and whether you are a replicant or not, just incidentally.) Fanfare music
I propose having a 'music' category in Fanfare.
I know we can, and do, post music in MeFi proper, but it would be good to have place to geek out over individual albums or songs or music videos in a way the Blue isn't really designed for.
MetatalkMimosas: Your Music Muse!
Gorgik would like to know, what are your personal associations with music. What are some songs that are personally meaningful to you, and if you feel like sharing, what are those associations/what’s meaningful about them. Is it a person(s)? An event? A place? A time in your life? Or just what have you been listening to right now? Links welcome. [more inside]
MetaMedia
Life can be difficult, time are tough; it is very easy to feel overwhelmed. That being said, I'm curious about what you are reading, watching, listening, and playing to get through these turbulent times. I'm also interested in knowing if your consumption of media has changed over the last couple of months. Are you seeking out things that are light and easy to consume? Or maybe you seek comfort in something heavier and darker. Or maybe you've withdrawn from screens altogether and are finding pleasure in a more analog and tactile space. Share with the community if you feel up to it. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Cheers.

Post about cooking brunch and listening to music?

Music on the Brain
As the end of another [insert your applicable adjective here] week grows nigh, let’s talk about having music on the brain. Is there always a soundtrack playing in your noggin? Or is everything quiet and that’s a bizarre question? On what occasions has your brain cued up a song with lyrics that fit the situation perfectly, or offered insights, comfort or humor that you needed? Ever find yourself thinking of a tune that would be utterly inappropriate in that moment should you accidentally start singing it? Can you “play” entire albums or symphonies in your head? Can you imagine familiar music differently, perhaps switching up the instrumentation, the meter or even the genre? Do you make up new lyrics to songs as a way to amuse yourself and others or remember things? And no conversation about music on the brain would be complete without a discussion of earworms… when does it happens to you, and do you have a trick for getting rid of them? Chime in! [more inside]

Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti 🎵
End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. I want to hear about your favorite musical(s). Broadway, Off-Broadway, live-action adaptation, film adaptations of stage musicals, etc. Who are your favorite singers/performers/entertainers? Do you have any specific songs that you like to put on repeat? Have you memorized the soundtrack? Do you sing them in your car or shower? Let's talk about a few of our favorite things. As always, be kind to yourself and to others.
Anything old that's new again? Name that tune!

MetaLikeTheBackofMyHand
End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. I want to hear about some "thing" that you've experienced over and over and over again. Maybe it's a book you keep re-reading, or a movie you've seen 100+ times, or a video game you play constantly, or an album or song you have on repeat. What piece of media are you constantly re-enaging with? Some thing that feels like the back of your hand, that you are familiar and comfortable with, that you know all the way through. Some thing you keep on coming back to because you just love it so much. As always, be kind to yourself and others. Cheers.

Managing a swap? Streaming music edition
I was looking at the wiki and I noticed that the last mixtape swap was in 2014. I think it could be fun to have another one, maybe through making playlists on a streaming music service like Spotify. I have never run a swap before though. [more inside]
🎧🎚🎵
End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. Let's talk about music. What are you listening to? How do you listen? On your phone on the bus? In the car on your way to work? At home with some high-end audio equipment? Are you strictly listening digital? Analog? Do you stream your music? Do you only listen to records? Are you a collector? Is there a certain genre you hate or avoid? Do you pirate your music or pay for it legally? Is there a single or an album that you've been listening to on repeat? Is there something you're looking forward to being released later this year? Let's turn the volume up. Stay safe and be kind to each other.
Deerhoof
AFIK, this band has never had a FPP. And at the same time pretty much everyone here (ok, maybe 10%) would love the hell out of them. And yet there is no recent "news" to hook an FPP on.
So, as someone who has suddenly found this question, um, urgent... How do I make this (first! FPP worthy?
Or is that not a thing? [more inside]
metafilter bandcamp recommendations?
Until midnight tonight Pacific time, bandcamp is donating their share of all purchases to the Voting Rights Project. Everyone I know is using this as an excuse to buy all those albums that were on their wishlist, and to recommend all their favorite bandcamp music for everyone else to buy. Can we do that here?
I wish I'd thought of this earlier, but there's still almost seven hours left in the sale...

Looking for a old solo musician post
I'm trying to find an old music post (not within the past year, but not more than a few years old) featuring a Youtube video of a solo female singer playing a sort of folky song on an acoustic guitar on her porch. Modern (not some old forgotten artist). For some reason I think she was in Texas. I think she had short hair. I think it was an original song. Other than I that I'm drawing blanks...
Managing Music
Can we have a 'Delete' button for posts on Music? More so than other subsites, it seems that we might want, and reasonably be allowed, to manage what works we keep available there. [more inside]
1970s music post from the Blue
I'm looking for a music post from the Blue that appeared about a month ago. It was about an elementary school class in California who had written a song that Warner Brothers eventually released as a single (with an industrial film by Francis Ford Coppola). I've searched for this but haven't found anything--does anyone remember this?

- Cheers MetaFilter!
Alexa, play Mefi* music
While bemoaning the fact that there's not an Amazon playlist or station that scratches my itch for eclectic music, it dawned on me that Mefi Music hits that particular sweet spot for me. Which led me to wonder about the feasibility of integrating Alexa with Mefi music. It seems it's been done for iPhone using the RSS feed, so I'm assuming doing something for Alexa is not totally out of the question. I'm curious as to what people think of the idea in general, and also any thoughts on technical implementation. [more inside]

Post your seasonal reading/ listening/ whatever list!
Inspired by this post on the blue about Barack Obama's summer reading list, I thought it would be interesting if mefites posted lists of what they plan to or have read, listened to, or watched this summer. I don't want to leave out people in the Southern Hemisphere, though, so feel free to post seasonal lists for whatever the season you may be experiencing!

Albums on Fanfare
The new Avalanches album is live-streaming, but the thread has closed. While a new post would be reasonable, I’m feeling spurred to ask: any chance of getting albums added to fanfare someday? musicbrainz and discogs would both be candidate sites for metadata.
