I know that different people use contacts for different things. I use mine as a mental reference to remember people I admire, so that if I'm ever discussing anything with them, I can remember to be nicer to them and assume more good faith on their part. Others use it to bookmark people whose posts they enjoy reading. Still others do it for networking purposes. Whatever.
Even though contacts aren't reciprocal, it seems somebody odd that we don't have an "opt-out" option that lets us remove people from our contacts list. It seems to me that it would be relatively simple to implement this option, and that the current system as it is set up facilitates both bullying and cyberstalking. Could an option like this be added, please?

A tiny Quonsmas pony for all! Could we get some sort of "Quonsed" option for the relationships list when we're adding contacts?

The contacts section allows us to indicate who we've actually met. Would the infodump be able to tell us who among us has met the most MeFites? I know it's dependent on people selecting the "met" box when listing a contact, but I'm curious about the number.

Are any mefites on Diaspora? I just got my invite and I see three other people there who are following #metafilter, but I bet there's more of you. I'd like to systematically add mefites as contacts, so if you are on there and want to be added, please either follow #metafilter, or contact me.

Why do other Metafilter users, who I've never emailed with, show up as potential contacts on Google+ ?

Is there a search-for-contacts, find-your-friends feature buried somewhere in MetaFilter? I'd love to see if any other folks that I know are MeFites, and would gladly grant the site temporary access to my GMail address book to find out... if ONLY there were a WAY to DO it!

What are contacts? And what does it mean when someone adds you as a contact?

This is either a pony, or it exists and I can't see it -- is there a way to remove disabled accounts from your contacts?....I just wanted to do some cleaning up.
This is low priority, though, so I can deal if it's just not possible. Thanks.

My front page contact sidebar is no longer showing posts by contacts that have received the threshold of 12+ favorites, plus other odd behavior.

If a contact's account is closed, either because they chose to disable it or they got banned, can (should?) that show up in the "Contact Activity" sidebar?

When making a new contact, the following doesn't seem to be very MeFi-centric.
Friendship acquaintance friend none
Physical I have met this user in the real world.
Professional co-worker colleague
Geographical co-resident neighbor none
Family child parent sibling spouse kin none

Lacking confidence, I will not call this a pony. It's just a suggestion: how about setting that optionally removes moderators from the "contact activity" sidebar? I adore jessamyn, and many of her answers deserve to be favorites/best answers, but due to her high-profile here, my list has become a digest of jessamyn's activity, which crowds out all my other contacts. (This only affects people who have moderators as contacts.)

My little pony: On the contacts page, can we have links to filter contacts based on the XFN links we've applied to them?

I'm terrible at remembering names. It would be great to have usernames that are favorites show up as a different color. Is there a way?

What's the point of "[Your Contact] just added [other member] as a contact."? Why should I care about that? I can understand highlighting the posts/fpps/best answers of my contacts but this just seems overkill. I'm casting my vote for removing this option.

This may be a stupid question; it may well have been discussed in the posts regarding the Metafilter messaging system, but they are legion and I am inebriated. But can we have a message sent to our inbox if someone adds us as a "contact"?

A quick formatting request for the contacts lists: "links to" and "linked by" as vertical lists side by side rather than as blocks of inline text. Also, a little icon to indicate mutual contacts, and a little plus sign to add new non-mutual contacts from the "linked by" list. I have the del.icio.us contacts list in mind.

Adding yourself as a contact is an easy way to keep track of Best Answers and Favorites and Stuff. To do so, just go to add anyone as a contact, then swap out their user number for yours in the address bar.

I've been wondering about the conventions and expectations for "Links to" and "Linked by" in our profiles. So far I've been "linked by" one person, who I don't know in real life but who I'm quite happy to be associated with based on what I've seen of their contributions.
If a person ever spontaneously linked to me and I wasn't into it for some reason, would there be a way to point this out to them (if they didn't have contact info)? Or would that be irrelevant because linking is really just more of a global "favorite" button, without any connotation of "A likes B, therefore we can assume B likes A"?
