You tell me how the first part of this post
wasn't relevant to the second part? It's a story of triumph over adversity and every news article about those awesome kids mentioned where, specifically, they lived.
This is moderation, it's racism, pure and simple.

I was afraid from the start that this post
would get out of hand. Unfortunately it seems I was right. If we have to rage, let's do it here instead. And while we're at it, maybe we can discuss whether & how a different framing could have prevented or minimized the train wreck we see before us.

Why are people who oppose racism often reluctant to discuss class? In the Jackson Jive incident
, five upperclass Australians, four white and one Indian, did an astonishingly racist skit that was paid for by the show's upperclass producers, yet in the discussion on MetaTalk
, the idea that this might have something to do with class was only brought up as a joke. [more inside]

I'm sorry, but did someone just post
that Gypsies are raised as criminals and have no moral values? Not just a literary allusion to lower-class itinerants, he calls out the Romani by name - the same Romani slaughtered by the million by the Third Reich for being a race of evil criminals. And it gets ten favorites? Really? [more inside]

I think the deletion of this
post by indienial is a bad call. The continued destruction of all things Aboriginal is a big fat important & undercommented issue, and one which I was looking forward to reading comments about. [more inside]

this post Matt. Not only is it a repeat of a topic, the N-bomb is used. Totally unacceptable, even if you are a rapper. It still has the same connotation as hate. Still way too soon since the Civil War.

, despite generating a huge response, is
B.) Racist, inflammatory, and designed as nothing more than a troll. I realize that MaddD enjoys posts that cause controversy, as evidenced by his topic post history
, but suggesting that grieving parents should be shackled to a floor because of their immigration status seems a little much.

"No Likey"? I hate that phrase and think it perpetuates a racial stereotype. I've seen it a couple times in comments and it blasted me on the front page today. I'm not saying anyone that uses it is racist, nor am I asking that anyone be condemned for using it. I just wanted to make my feelings known. You may disagree.

Anybody have a problem with the word "niggling"?
We already decided "fuck" was no problem amongst adults, will we shoot down innocent words?

I want to apologize for any part I had in prompting the explicitly racist comments some have posted in this thread
and others, if there were any. I'm beginning to wonder whether I should continue advancing my perspective in light of reactions like this. I don't want to encourage those kinds of posts.
