Pony request for my birthday: Can cortex's deletion reasons be collected? Stuff like this is one of my favorite features of the site.

You can go to deleted thread or maybe get them pulled from the Infodump.

jessamyn: "You can go to deleted thread..."

Oh, I totally forgot about that. That'll do fine.

Feel free to close this up.

And if you really just want to see all 2,500+ deletion reasons that contain the string 'cortex', let me know and I'll grab them from the Infodump and mail them to you.

Will they make much sense out of context? Don't you need the post to go along with it?

Anyway, pony request for my birthday: cortex

Nah, many of the deletion reasons are amusing even without the context, or else the context is fairly obvious at least to the extent it needs to be to get the joke. There's a certain entertainment value from some of them from the very process of trying to figure out what the context was.

That said, I suppose I could throw together a quick web page with links back to the deleted posts. I'm thinking maybe an official thumbs up or thumbs down from cortex on that might be in order, though.

Not updated in forever (paging jbickers!), but there's cortex the killer. Not to be confused with Cortez the Killer.

Yep, reading that just now led to a fresh coating of beer being sprayed on my keyboard.

Somewhere around here I have a clipping from a paper last summer, something to the effect of "Gay's Groin Presents Biggest Hurdle".

More importantly, the tradition of posting the Treaty of Westphalia in moribund threads reminds us of the Peace of Muenster, which ended the Eighty Years' War and established a Dutch Republic independent of the Holy Roman Empire, in essence sealing Dutch victory over the Spanish aggressors.

Hence, Holland will win the World Cup.

Ooh, yum. I'll have a piece of Munster, please.

Can someone point me to the "Deleted thread" that keeps getting mentioned? I'm assuming it's a page that has links to deleted threads?

And what is the infodump w/r/t MetaFilter?
posted by tzikeh at 7:03 PM on July 8, 2010

oh, I also enjoy a good cortex deletion comment.
posted by purephase at 7:05 PM on July 8, 2010

I can honestly say that when I am feeling down that I hit the deleted threads blog. I do enjoy cortex's contributions, but even a "Not a good fit for metafilter" makes me smile.
posted by cjorgensen at 7:08 PM on July 8, 2010

The deleted thread blog is here. The InfoDump is some sort of information dump from MeFi which contains data but no content [i.e. not the content of comments and posts but a lot of the other data about them] and it's somewhat publicly accessible. I don't know much about it, as cortex is technically the CIO but he and FishBike [and pb] are both pretty good at summoning interesting information from its depths.

Deleted Thread Blog - not hosted on metafilter.com. Maintained vigilantly (or automatically?) by puke & cry.

And what is the infodump w/r/t MetaFilter?
The Infodump is produced at the will of whichever mod nudges the button, as a database file. It is regularly accessed, re-hosted, GUI-ified, and interpreted by any number of generous, talented, and very good-looking MeFite DBgeeks.

And if you want to get a good idea of what kind of data is in the Infodump, the wiki page about it gives a good summary of the available data in the various tables that comprise it.

cortex is technically the CIO

Please tell me you have actually assigned yourselves titles like this. That would be so awesome.

I wish I had a cool title.

One of your favorite features of the site? Really? I mean, cortex is a witty guy and everything, but I think that's laying it on a bit thick.

Well there are four of us. I've always figured it played out like this.

mathowie: CEO
pb: CTO
cortex: CIO
me: COO
vacapinta: Veep in Charge of Special Projects

No, it's that vacapinta isn't on staff so much as a mysterious superhero who swoops in sometimes under dark of night to right what has gone wrong.

Nah, there's always one hater.

There's two or three out there, really. I get weird email sometimes.

vacapinta: Veep in Charge of Special Projects

That's one of the reasons I'm on an island across the ocean on the other side of the world.
If one of my "Projects" goes wrong, last resort is to cut all the underwater cables and... pray.
