Is your pet on Instagram? April 13, 2018 12:55 PM   Subscribe

It's time for a roll call of the social-media inclined pets of Metafilter!

Inspired by dobbs' lovely comment in the rescue dog controversy thread, I am very curious to see what other Mefites have created an Instagram account for their furry (or feathered or scaly!) friends. Here is mine! Show me yours!

Anyway, I can't be bothered to maintain spare accounts for 'em but my account does frequently feature animals that I have known.

Gigi and Cal are regular guest stars on my Instagram.. (My now departed Schro, who you all very kindly advised me about in his last months, features in some earlier pictures if you scroll back a bit.)

We’re in discussions about whether we are ready to fill the third-cat hole in our hearts. If we do, I’m certain Cat X will feature on the Instagram prominently.

My insta was all dog pics anyway so I just handed it over to them. Mefites, please meet Maybellene and McKenzie, two very sweet black labs living the good life in Maine.

Beans doesn't have her own account but she's been on Twitter. She was also featured on Cute Overload when she was a teeny tiny baby.

Holy shit I had never seen the comments section on that Cute Overload post. They're... something.

Ollie and Murphy are regulars on my Instagram. They don’t have their own because then I’d likely lose all my likes.

Wait, I must have seen them because I responded. Jeez, aging is terrible.

My personal instagram @fuzbal has been mostly taken over by my dog Peter.

Thinking back on it, my dog history corresponds to the Three Ages of internet photoblogging. Peter is an instagram dog, Samson was big on flickr, and Tikko was hand-edited HTML.

My Instagram is mostly nature photography, but my family's dog makes an occasional appearance. Here he is looking pleased with himself after finding part of a deer in the woods. Here he is at not exactly his most noble and majestic.

There was also that time when I bought my cat a very expensive, ultralight, down-filled cat cave which she likes so much that it actually just lives on my bed now when I'm not using it.

Instagram's desktop functionality is intentionally limited for bad reasons. However, if you right click a photo in your account's main page and select "open in new tab," you will get a page for that picture that has a URL you can post here.

Thanks for the shoutout.

In addition to Shakedown's account, I'm also the InternationalHouseSitter account, which is mostly pictures of architecture, but also features photos of some of my clients: dogs (Reesie, Rolo, Cookie, Bailey, Buster) , cats (Muffin, Lucy, Blanche, Nina), donkeys, chickens, as well as various strays, guard dogs, and wild things I encounter along the way.

I was walking down the business district avenue near my house yesterday and saw this cat hanging out in a basement window and then saw that she had her own hashtag: #ethelonwestern

Um yeah, so, in trying to find a pic of my cat on my insta using her name, Ms Kitty, as a hashtag, I discovered that there is a lot of, er, soft porn on the 'gram, especially under the #misskitty hashtag. So I'll just link one of my photos of our Ms Kitty here.

Pet thread!

It's coming up on 4 years since I lost my best friend Fritzie, So here:

Fritz was awesome.
Fritz sleeping on my desk.
Fritz is serious cat.
Fritz was a very patient cat.
Of course, even the most serious kitty has his party moments.
Seriously, Fritzie was my bedmate and greeter. If I was on the couch watching TV or something, he was always to be found perched on my hip. When I'd come home from a road trip he was there to intertwine through my legs and purr so loudly you could hear him a room away.

My pal could be intense when stalking something.

Fritz was loyal and protective, odd traits for a cat. When I was ill with the systemic infection from the spider bite, Fritz would. not. leave. my. side. To the point that his food and water had to be brought into where I was.

Don't ever try to tell me I didn't for 14 years, have the best cat the world has ever known. When I took him to the vet the last time, I was so distraught that I was literally incapacitated for a week. Every once in a while I find something to remind me of him, and get all weepy.

Companions like that only come along once. Be kind to and love your furry friends, because you don't know how long you'll have them.

My girlfriend's cat Arwyn (the world's best cat, incidentally) is on Twitter at @BestCatArwyn. The other cats in the clowder (Furi and Emma) make appearances too along with occasional special guest cats.

Bonus favorite pictures of Arwyn who is, I remind you, the world's best cat: 1 | 2 | 3 (my favorite pic of all)

I have an account for my cat, Molly. She's 15 and has recently developed some health issues, and it brought home to me for the first time that she may not be around much longer. The result of my anxiety is that I'm documenting as much of our time together now as possible, via her instragram account, which means at least one post per day. (Although she mostly just sleeps.)

My good dog Jack has been gone for almost 5 years now. He was a really good pupper and the best friend I've ever had. I lost him cruelly and I miss him everyday.

Please do not be concerned, friends, if I follow all of you and like all of your furbaby pics. I am not stalking you. I'm just crushing on your babies. I haven't had so many consecutive moments of joy in, oh, about 18 months.

Thank you, friends, for sharing your furjoy with us. Thanks to zeusianfog for this post!
