Turn the lights down low and switch the sparkly ones on, get out your best headphones or your Big Speakers, and get ready because the MetaFilterMusic Podcast is BACK BABY [more inside]
Sooo...It happened with earlier tech!
I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their copy machine, or why. [more inside]
The Cat Came Back
Some heartwarming news from Ask Metafilter: justalisteningman's cat Fromage, who went missing on Wednesday, has been recovered safe and sound. All is well, you may breathe normally now. [more inside]
Barking Jingle Bells
Hi, Mefites! I have a need to see your pets in their holiday finery - sweaters, headgear, what-have-you. Have a picture of your cat in the tree? Need to see that too.
Cat Pajama-jam Party!
Such an event falls well inside our area of expertise. [more inside]
Metatalktail Hour: Pet Week!
Good Saturday evening, MetaFilter! This week, xenization (who is in grad school and can't have a pet) wants to hear all about your critters, and asks: "I'd love to see photos, obviously, but talk to us about their personalities. What quirky things do they do? What do they really love/hate? Any memorable stories to share? Let me live vicariously through you all." [more inside]
Is your pet on Instagram?
It's time for a roll call of the social-media inclined pets of Metafilter! [more inside]
Does he or doesn't he? Only his hairdresser knows for sure.
After a two year long campaign of awesome dog posts (40), Johnny Wallflower finally overcomes his obvious Pro-Dog Agenda and finally makes a cat post today.
But wait, Johnny Wallflower has also posted about cats you say. Perhaps, but do a paltry 30 cat posts even count?
In my heart of hearts I do not believe that Johnny Wallflower has an Obvious Anti-Cat Bias. I have come to believe that he reached Peak Cat on his first time up at bat.
How are you going to keep them on the farm once they've seen Liquid Cats?
Happy Fun September
As [northern hemisphere] summer winds down, [other people's] kids are back in school and [US] politics ramp up, I would like to suggest more happy and/or fun posts in September. More cats and kittens! More puppies and dogs! If you find spiders to be cute and/or amazing, post some! Whatever strikes your fancy, share it! [more inside]
Friends! Countrypeople! Lend me your Pets.
They say that cats rule the internet - is there proof that they rule Metafilter? Mefites, show us your pets! [more inside]
SLYT My Wrists
If we're going to have a higher bar for Palestine threads, we need a higher bar for viral adverts and cats being funny. Just like we need something to go on beyond GRARbait, we need something a bit deeper than Cute Overload-fodder or verbatim, analysis/critique-free reposts of ads from corporate channels on Youtube.
This is a problem in the same way that all the news sites running the same fluff stories is a problem: If we're going to have the same content as everywhere else, why should Metafilter even exist?
I appreciate the site for when we can have interesting conversations about things most of us didn't know about yet- but we all already know about cute cats and funny adverts. There are other websites where you can watch nothing but that, all day. We need to have a standard that's higher than the rest of the Net. [more inside]

WHY CAN'T I HAZ MOAR ANGRY TOADZ?
I enjoy the sidebar and the Best of Metafilter subsite that draws from it. I can't help but notice, though, that arguably the most popular posts are not well-represented there. [more inside]
What constitutes a thin post?
This post, a single-link recipe, was killed for being a bit "thin," yet innumerable SLYTs of cat--and, to be fair, dog--videos are allowed to stand. Lots of MeFites love pets, and lots of MeFites love food. What's the qualitative difference here?
Don't potty-train your cat?
Help me find a comment made on a cat-related post sometime in recent years. The gist of the comment was, "Don't potty-train your cat, cat feces is uniquely toxic to the environment when disposed of through the sewers." It contained a link to a page supposedly backing that claim up.
(I don't recall whether it was a joke or not, FWIW.)
Welcome to Metalfilter, James
In keeping with the great circle of mefi and cats (how did they get on their computers ?) we now welcome the an arranger of cats, james_ash [more inside]
Cats vs MetaFilter
Dear The Internet: We have enough cat videos thank you. [more inside]
Help me find cat video
If I can find this cat video again, it will make my children happy. [more inside]
But I'm a dog person...
I thought I had favorited the comment, but I guess not, and all of my searches have proven to be fruitless. I am looking for the comment that goes relatively in depth on why one should feed their cat wet food vesus dry. I believe there may have been some connection to some sort of medical condition if cat ate dry food long term, but can't be sure. [more inside]
Where have all the kitties gone?
One of the reasons I joined MeFi was because I was reliably informed there would be kitty pictures.
I have now seen posts regarding cats WITHOUT photos of said cats!
This shit must cease! I need kitty photos!
PS I pride myself on being both vague and nonsensical so feel free to delete if need be.
Dear Askme, my cat is wedged in my scanner.
You'd think, after eleven years, we'd have finally figured out how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why. But anyway, Happy Birthday, MeFi!
Mass Hysteria
A while ago I ran across a link (here in the grey, I think) to a post on one of MeFi's satellite sites (MetaChat, maybe?) that described how dogs and cats interact with the world differently. I can't remember where it was posted, or who posted it, and google isn't turning up anything useful. Does anybody remember this?
AskMe lets down an asker.
A woman writes in to ask for help on training a cat, and is instead told to get a divorce. [more inside]
I know we can be catty, but this...
A civilized alternative to thread dumping: yon metatalk callout thread

Lumpy Kitty Followup
I really don't know where to put this...
Mefites asked for an update on my lumpy kitty question. Unfortunately, the lumps in question were caused by Cutaneous Lymphosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. (My vet has only seen it 3 times in her 20 years of practice.) After the lumps appeared, she fell ill, and ultimately had to be euthanized two weeks ago.
I just wanted to pass the news along, and thank you all for the suggestions and help in the AskMe question. RIP Qu'Appelle, 1993-2005.
