Your Best Parody "This Is Just To Say" poems

I've searched and couldn't find a post for this, so apologies if there is one and I missed it. I'd like your best/favourite William Carlos Williams "This Is Just To Say" parody poems from the green/blue/grey. I'd also love any other comment on the blue, green or grey that is in any way a parody of an existing text. [more inside]

Reading the room on international posts

I was a bit disappointed when the recent thread about Iceland's elections devolved into lolz pretty much from the get go. Would it be possible for us as a community to be a little more conscious of how we approach posts about other countries? [more inside]

Mourning online-only friends

It's been a month of losses for MetaFilter, with three members passing away in as many weeks. This article from the Guardian seems appropriate: It turns out losing online friends feels as bad as the death of 'real life' ones.

RIP Steven den Beste

Early influential political blogger and longtime MeFite Steven den Beste (also as Steven C. Den Beste) has passed away. A former engineer for Qualcomm and a serious anime fan, he was in poor health and mostly homebound for many years. RIP.

Things I favorited by my contacts?

Is there an easy way to see, for each of my contacts or for an individual user who is a contact, things that _I_ have favorited? This would be a quick way for me to remind myself why I have marked that user as a contact. [more inside]

Word for the dying?

My grandfather is dying. I am on my way to help my uncle and grandmom take care of him. I knew this day would come and at some point in the past I thought I had favorited a comment about how to help the dying let go. I cannot find the comment. Can you all help me find it? It was something along the lines of "it is ok. You did good. We will be ok."but I think there was more than that.

Where is star trek episode ii eggs

Somewhere either on the blue or green someone linked to a YouTube video of a 6 year old playing with their star trek action figures. Spock is wearing an apron. Kirk goes on a mission to trade a hash brown for some eggs. Everyone is in a band. I quote it daily. [more inside]

Can we stop attacking left-of-Clinton/anti-establishment folks on here?

There is no problem with individuals expressing views critical of Sanders, Stein, Snowden, Greenwald etc. The problem is when an echo chamber develops making pro-establishment-ism the only acceptable position and vehemently jumping on views to the contrary with more emotion than reason. It seems to me that MeFi 2016 has become such an echo chamber. This is no doubt due to the very real threat posed by Donald Trump and the Republican Party, and the consequent necessity of a Clinton win, but has developed to the point where it has the effect of recursively self-amplifying a pro-establishment position and silencing more radical/anarchist/antifa or otherwise anti-establishment views.

World Series on Fanfare?

Is there a possibility that we could have some open threads on FanFare for the upcoming World Series? There are several teams in the mix to this point whose participation could be historic, so interest will quite possibly be higher than ever. I think we did the Olympics and the World Cup, IIRC, so this wouldn't be unprecedented. Is that a thing we could do?

Can't see Metafilter posts on my iPhone

I have an iPhone 6S running iOS 9.3.5 I can't see the comments in Metafilter posts. All other sites seem to display properly, with the exception of one I can think of where an option button appeared on others' phones but not mine. I am logged in. I have tried different Metafilter display preferences. What gives? [more inside]

Webcomic with a "lead ballon" of a story going into deep crevasse

There was a webcomic linked to on the blue (I think - maybe a FPP in the past month or so) that featured two guys talking about story/comic writing. The gist was that the one guy was telling the comic author that his stories were too dark, and that they should "lift people up" or something. [more inside]

Where is the place to discuss deletion policies?

Trumps comment truncated

I was surprised in the latest election thread to see that Donald Trump's "Grab them by the pussy" comment was bowderlerized when it was printed as a link to a video of the comment, but printed in full when a partial transcript of his remarks was reprinted. Is this something that's just at the disgression of the poster? Otherwise, I'd don't understand the inconsistency. (I think I understand the arguments for and against each method of handling Trump's vulgar language, but having both versions in a single post is puzzling.)

Are we counting favorites the right way?

On our user pages, the two numbers tracked for favorites count different things. The first one is a count of how many individual comments I have favorited. The second number is a count of how many times everyone has favorited a comment of mine. The description of that second number, "Favorited by others," is sort of misleading, I think, because it doesn't count individual comments the way the first number does. [more inside]

How should you tag posts?

I’ve made many posts, and given them lots of tags. Often, I’ve often gotten very specific with them - adding all of the names of the authors of news articles, etc. Lately, as I’ve tried to search for buried threads, I’ve become uncertain that getting so specific has been particularly useful. (Someone looking for a post isn’t likely to remember that it contained a particular news article written by person X as opposed to the article’s topic.) What are your best practices for tagging posts, and your best practices for searching for tagged posts?

British or personality disorder?

Reading the answers to this question I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed that the nation of 60 odd-million people that I belong to has been reduced to a bit of a caricature here. Metafilter normally does very well at avoiding stereotypical depictions of different nationalities and/or minorities of many kinds, so I'm curious as to why this rather broad brush approach to the British has been allowed to stand without comment or intervention.

spinoff sites

What are the unoffical spinoff sites? There's MetaChat - "an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter." MonkeyFilter, GameFilter - "A good post to Gamefilter is a link or set of links to something that is related to gaming, gamers, or gaming culture." and MeFightClub - " started way back in ye olde 2007 as an offshoot community of Metafilter (a site where members are collectively known as 'Mefites', and that's how we get to 'Mefight' Club), dedicated to having a safe, groovy place to hang out together and play and talk about the games we love." Are there others?
