A pony of any color? October 31, 2001 6:26 AM Subscribe
I think Metafilter is the best thing there is. When I saw the bright ,colorful, sparkling "Spooky Filter" on the home page, I realized what I have been longing for more than anything in the world: being able to choose a brighter color pattern for my personalized viewing pleasure. Am I a heretic ? Will I mercilessly burn at the stake?
Me too, Voyageman and TacoConsumer!
(always wanted to say this and, it being Halloween and all that, figured it would be hallowed!)

I dunno...The white-on-blue does occasionally strain my eyes, lacks a certain punch. But I am a content-over-style guy anyway, so I can live with it.

jpoulos is the only poster in the world whose double-comments are actually better than just the one - and triply so when you get a third helping free. I'm sorry, but this could not go on being left unsaid for much longer. :-)
I'm abusing the Halloween spirit I know, but here in Portugal it's the eve of the Dia de Todos os Santos and if we don't choose a Saint of our own, we die and go to Mexico or something, where it's Dia de los Muertos, brrr...

You might try the lo-fi version and/or add a user style sheet. There's a thread about that around here somewheres. I think the site has the basic classes designed so that a user style sheet could be reasonably sphisticated.

I haven't tried, but I think you could go pretty far with a user style sheet. If anyone wants to design one, they could post it, someone here would bookmarkletize it and we'd be off.
(Personally, I find the white-on-blue very easy to read and wouldn't change it.)

Here’s the previous thread on user style sheets.
I’ve been meaning to make a whole bunch more, varied and all that (the first one is to make lofi mefi look sorta like normal mefi), but I am one lazy ass dude. However, just ‘body {background:#xxx;color:#xxx}’ will get you pretty far.

I almost forgot. One bad thing about lofi is that the threads use the normal mefi look. It’s not that big of a deal, though (and with some work I’m sure the user style sheet could make it look fine too).

Matt said somewhere that he was going to make the whole lofi experience look, well, lofi at some time.
Maybe a pony would help?
p.s. my Psion + Mobile Phone desire lofi in an intense and passionate way.

Well, for misanthropes, nostalgics, and me, a blank blue page w/header would be nice. We could simply dial it up let our unrealized expectations fill it in.

Just Kidding.
Seriously, I've got a feeling that if users could choose their own colors, 99% wouldn't customize them. We just love the #006699.
