I'd like to hear more from the mods behind the rationale for deleting this question
, from a person who is seeking advice related to their impending death. I'd also be interested in hearing feedback from the community at large about whether it's an appropriate question for askme.

I'm not entirely sure how I came to it but I was reading this post at Gawker
& wandered down into the comments only to find this odd bit of writing
. Some of the replies were witty but then (MeFi's own?) Gawker editor Maureen O'Connor pointed out it was essentially identical to this anonynmous AskMe
from 5 years ago. At the very least I figure it's a curiosity worth pointing out to my fellow MeFites who have too much free time on their hands & want to dissect it under the usual microscope.

Two related privacy questions: (a) Can the mods see who has posted an anonymous AskMe? The submission page suggests "no" but the anonymous submission page suggests "yes".
(b) can mods see if multiple accounts are created by an specific IP address?

Feature request: When you preview a question on the green, you're shown five similar, previously asked questions. That's really helpful, and often eliminates the need to ask the question. But the anonymous-ask preview page does not do that. Can it?

The number of anonymous questions, as a percentage of all AskMe questions, has been rising steadily over time [13 out of 100 today]. We were sitting around talking about this over email and what limits we could implement, when we figured maybe we'd just try to talk about it instead.... [more inside]

Why is this AskMe
about St. Paul, OR anonymous? I can't think of any possible reason for it to be so except to get around the once a week question limit (though I confess, I'm not sure if the software actually allows that). If we can get around the limit by asking any old question and making it anonymous, and the mods will approve it, why not take the limit away? And if that's not what's happening, I'm still not sure why it was approved; I just can't imagine why that question needs to be anonymous. [more inside]

Why is it that you can post to AskMe as Anon and then make a normal post, but you can't do it the other way around? Once you've made a post the Anon link vanishes from the post page.
Is it just the link vanishing, or does the ability go too?
Can it be changed? [more inside]

This anonymous question
about swimming has picked my curiosity. The guidelines say that questions that 'don't appear to require anonymity' may not be approved. Is swimming a reason to be ashamed in some part of the world?

I think it'd be cool if when posting as anonymous on AskMe, you had the option to provide a separate password which would let you log in as anonymous just for the thread you're creating
and post comments. The main benefit is that it would allow responders to ask for more information. The main risk I see is that someone could out themselves by accident if they forgot to log in as anonymous before commenting...

PonyFilter: Since anonymous questions were first introduced, there's been the need for anonymous questioners to easily respond as a follow-up to their own question, and, to a lesser degree, given subject matter, for people to contribute their answers to the question anonymously. I imagine the admins have already thought about this, and I'm just wondering if it's a feature that will never seen because of the possibility of abuse or the difficulty of coding.

I recently posted an anonymous question to Metafilter (within the past week). I browsed to the 'New Question' page without thinking about the question limits because I had a new query, but to my surprise the page didn't restrict me from posting. A bug? A way to get around the question limit? Am I shortly going to be shot for pointing this out?

I love the new tab feature, but there's a small bug with AskMe. When the posts are sorted by favorites, anonymous questions are credited to Anonymous Ask MetaFilter
instead of the usual anonymous
. No crisis, but an inconsistency that may distress some of our more sensitive members (you know who you are).

At present, there seem to be some askmeta questions missing, notably 41851 to 41860. I only noticed because I refreshed and a question that I *knew* was several questions down was now at the top. The missing posts don't have deletion comments on them so I'm guessing it's just a glitch of some kind?

were resolved? And at the risk of seeming too voyeuristic, has anyone ever thought about writing fiction based on the scenario in an anonymous AskMe question?

Displaying users who have marked Anonymous questions in AskMe as a favorite is potentially revealing of who Anonymous was in that instance. It is also potentially harmful, both to users who mark such questions as a favorite, as well as to future discourse at Metafilter in general. So I suggest that we remove the list at the start of the thread of those who marked an Anonymous question as a favorite. [more inside]

Anonymous posting: time-limited cookies to enable anonymous
to reply to their own threads for N hours? Perhaps tied to logins? It seems like the "anonymous" nom de plume
really only needs to be a setting that is applied when a thread is marked as such and the original poster is replying. Since most of these questions are for personal, medical, or other advice that usually need more input (perhaps to triangulate its position), it seems useful.

Anonymous questions in AskMe, as I understand it, are for those questions which are of a delicate nature, could cause serious embarrassment, result in legal trouble, or cause some sort of other harm.
So how is a question about what tattoo to get
deemed worthy of anonymization? [MI]
