Looking for a post about glaring errors in hacker movies. I am not sure if it is the post itself or if it came up in the comments, but I'm sure I remember a thread about stupid errors using IT in films, especially 'hacker' type films. Sorry, my search-foo is weak today.

A
few other threads have asked about the error message "The page is still loading, please wait to add favorites." and have found solutions in turning off NoScript or AdBlock. I ran into the same issue this week and, after doing some investigating, found it was specifically necessary to make sure the
cloudfront.net domain was "Allowed" in AdBlock.

When, if ever, do admins admit they were wrong? Throughout the history of MetaFilter and MetaTalk in the 11 years I’ve been here, I see admins justifying or defending their actions and I almost never see admins admitting they made a mistake.

Why can't the new post page actually tell you when you can make a post again if you're trying to make a new post too soon? Like -- "Try again in 7 hours" or something like that?

I'm getting this error [see more inside for error] every morning when I log into any Mefi site. I can delete any cookies related to MetaFilter and get in ok but I thought that I would only have to do it one time. It seems I have to do this every day. Is this something that anyone else had reported?
Thanks!

MetaTalk RSS doesn't validate, isn't properly formed XML--due to
unquoted special characters. This seems to be getting irritatingly common, is something missing out of the auto-quote list, or could we have auto-quote for the RSS beefed up in general? AskMe never seems to have problems, just MetaTalk almost every week or so.

I've been getting "connection reset while page was loading" errors every time I've tried to access any of the x.metafilter.com domains for awhile now. I post this in one of the small 5-minute windows of access which have opened up over the past few days or so. Is there still work being done on the site, or is the borkage on my end?

The other day, MeFi and its subdomains started giving me the following ColdFusion error when loading the index page. (Firefox / Intel Mac, as below.)
MeFi works fine for me in Safari, and I'm guessing that resetting my cookies will solve the problem. (Something's corrupted in there, maybe.) But I thought I'd pass along the error screen in case it's of interest to the powers that be...
Error is as follows:

I'm getting a server error when I hit any of the *.mefi sites that looks like it's related to cookie processing. Here's the relevant error message:

Not sure if this has been an issue for others but.. I'm using the Greasemonkey script for MeFi quotes and every time I click it, it brings me to a blank page. I've updated all the MeFi greasemonkey scripts and I'm on FF 2.0.0.1. Any ideas?

When MeFi Music launched, I couldn't upload songs because I'd get this error message:
"The MIME type of the uploaded file "application/oct-stream" was not accepted by the server." Others reported the same problem, and something was done which made my uploads work. However, now I'm getting this message again.

Is it just me, or is the
AskMe RSS Feed reported to be broken on BlogLines more often than not?
"The feed URL returns a page that does not look like an RSS feed. This can be caused by the feed URL being incorrect, or it can be caused by a configuration issue with the server hosting the feed. If this error continues, you should check the feed URL and, if it is wrong, subscribe to the correct URL."

Trouble logging in. Or actually not.
I got a couple of different messages, one saying "error, email Matt" and another saying "error, delete MeFi cookies, if problem persists, email Matt". I gave up, thinking I wasn't logged in, but when I went to Ask, it turns out I was.
Another related thing. Is the CAPTCHA case-sensitive? Because it doesn't say either way. That would have eliminated one possible avenue of enquiry into why login was failing.

On AxeMe, if I click "My Posts" (should be "My Questions"), and choose a 1 month time frame, it shows me one 6-month-old quesiton I asked, but not the 7 more recent quesitons (including one I just asked today.) In any other view, no quesitons are displayed at all.

Small, but unlikely pony request: When a user creates a link to an external site, but forgets the "http://", a MeFi error page results. It would be helpful if the system scanned the links in a post and tried to detect these orphaned links.

For some reason in my
profile, where it is supposed to say "xx MetaFilter users near this user:" I get "no zip found in the db". I found that strange, as I live in a suburb of DC, but shrugged it off as everyone else living in the cooler parts of town. However, when I got bored and looked into it, I'm
26.87 miles from
darksquirrel. Yet
darksquirrel is
29.78 miles from
jenny18 and they show up in each other's zipcode list. Is this a bug, or have I uncovered the fact that my neighborhood has been blackballed by MeFi?
