I am having trouble relocating an AskMefi question about having a job that is fantastic in multiple ways, then sliding into becoming less invested/passionate/a good worker/working when one should be working over time, and wanting to hack oneself to appreciate said good job again. Does anyone remember or have better search skills than I do? [more inside]

How to find Mefites in a specific location? I want to find all Mefites in Panama City, Panama. Is it possible to do this; if so, how?
Someone suggested editing my profile and changing my location to the city I want to locate others in and then looking at nearby mefites but that didn't work.

I seem to remember that in the wake of this question
someone mentioned (on MeTa, I think) putting all the books that appealed to them into an Amazon wishlist. They were then able to use some sort of tool that exported it into a format useful for taking it to their public library. Does anyone remember this posting? I tried to search for it but my googleFu blah blah blah...

There was a list in the last few weeks of a bunch of weird places to get christmas gifts. One was the american science supply and the author commented that a similar list was put up last year. Searching metafilter and ask metafilter has proven fruitless. Can someone get me back to the post? thanks.

Looking for an old AskMe — the question was something like "I talk too much. How can I stop?" It was posted within the past six months or so. I think I even gave an answer, but for the life of me I can't find it in searches or in my answers.

I distinctly remember reading a thread in AskMe a few weeks (?) ago, where someone was asking, in a nutshell, 'how do I get sent to Iraq as a defense contractor?' It might not have been that, exactly, but it related to jobs as a defense contractor, or maybe overseas jobs in general, or maybe just 'dangerous jobs.' I think it specifically mentioned the idea of defense contracting (Blackwater, etc.), and the question related to how one gets their foot in the door.
I can't find this, using any combination of searches or tags, looking under all the logical terms (jobs, employment, iraq, all combinations thereof).
Does anyone else remember or have a link to this thread? Or did I just totally hallucinate it?

1) I finally updated the MetaTalk posting page to be more like the rest of the site, and added titles. RSS will soon have titles added. Also, no more "bugs" category as the generic catch-all, as I force you to pick one.
2) - For firefox 2.0 and IE7 users, you might notice being on a mefi site, the upper right search box is glowing or highlighted
. If you click it, you can add a server-wide MeFi search (using the Google aggregated results from all *.metafilter.com sites) and search directly from your browser.

Anyway, in the course of searching for it I also took a gander through the FAQ in the hopes that I could find information on the best way to search MeFi... [mi]

I swear I remember a way to find users from a specific locale- but I can't seem to conjure up a search-string that will do what I want, which is to find users in and around Munich and Berlin, Germany.
The rasion d'etre of my search is that I've found some 1500 photographs I took there 30 years ago, and I'd like some assistance in determining locations/stories.

I am having trouble finding a post to a cool web tool (java, maybe?) where you chose a parameter or some colors, then dragged your mouse around to make spline-y funky patterns. It seems it would have been especially useful to make cool mathy looking web backgrounds. I haven't the foggiest idea what search terms to even start with, and those I've tried have come up empty. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

i'm not sure if i should post this here or ask mefi, but i'm looking for an old post that i found around Thanksgiving.

What's the best way to suggest a new tag for an existing post? E-mailing or IMing jessamyn? The original poster? Or should I just not worry about it? I can just keep a mark of it in my own del.icio.us, but that doesn't help anyone else who wants to search the same thing.

Would enough people buy it for it to be worthwhile for Matt, revenue-wise? How much would such a treasure cost? Could it be produced on demand, to minimize costs? I know I'd buy it.

Trying to avoid repeat posts
is pretty hard because of timeouts from the search system. (In fact, I wanted to see if this is a duplicate Metatalk topic, but my searches stalled.) I want to avoid dupes, really I do! My memory isn't encyclopedic, though (and I have a life, *cough* ;-). How do the old hands here really avoid repeat posts? Shouldn't it be in a FAQ?
(Interestingly, after I started doing more searches, MetaFilter went into general "Server Error" mode for a while. Hmm...)
