We have clouds for the top 150 tags posted to
Mefi,
Music,
Meta,
Jobs,
IRL and
Ask. We can see the top ten tags we've used listed on user profiles. Would it be possible to view all tags (or a greater subset than 'top ten') for individual users, either in a list or cloud form?

Posts about adverts are controversial on Metafilter. Some people think adverts are ok. Others find them intrinsically distasteful. Mystery meat posts that turn out to be 'hey look at this great advert' and nothing more can lead to derails and nasty arguments over whether or not using Metafilter to spread advertising in this way is acceptable or not. Accurate tagging of such posts with 'advert' or 'advertisement' could avoid this.

Metadata for Metafilter Pony request: would it be possible to have a box that pops up that says something like "We noticed you're using tags X and Y, here are some other tags commonly associated with X and Y," to improve the descriptive qualities of user provided tags?

How can I get notified when X topic comes up? For example, I'm interested in a Twin Cities meetup but don't log in every day. Is there a way to make a tag and get MeMail'ed or something when a keyword like Minneapolis or MeetUp is posted? Thanks.

Another favoriting discussion. With very many users having hunderds, and some thousands of favorites, it can become unweildy navigating favorites. If they are indeed intended as a bookmarking tool, it would be helpful to be able to tag them so we can find things we intend to come back to in the future.

Holy crap, the back tagging project (
recent update) is complete! 43,000 old posts have been keyworded by a team of hundreds of volunteers here. A huge thanks to all, I never thought we'd finish up all those old MeFi posts.

Would it be hard to enable AskMe's tagging system with a bit of AJAX so existing tags are pulled from the database as you type them -- kind of an "auto-recommend" feature -- in order to prevent redundancy?

Hey
back-
taggers! What are the top 10 tags displayed on your userpage?
(For both MeFi and AskMe.)
Also, we're nearing 50%—let's do a page
(or 3 =) today!

Why are the multiple words we use as tags kept together, that is, no spaces?

Is there any way of having an overlapping system of tags to categorize these MetaTalk posts? So for 'feature requests' that could be a sub-tag of either the 'Metafilter', 'Ask Metafilter' or 'Metatalk' tags. So when I want to see what is being discussed about improving Ask Metafilter I start by selecting that tag and then start clicking the sub tags to get more specific. Finally, the reason I am asking is because I am concerned about the flooding of questions on AskMe and the thing I would do is have a separate section for technology questions as those questions seem to be at least 50% of all questions asked. Cheers.

Mindfuck is a tag that has been
used only once on askmefi. I'm truly amazed. More people should be using this in the human relations section, I think. I'm sure it would suit many other categories as well. If people were more attuned to what a mindfuck is . . . then they wouldn't be posting a lot of those human relationship questions, I guess.

Could there be a 'family' category for AskMeFi? I felt weird asking a question about my daughter and categorizing it as 'human relations', which based on my reading over the last year or so seemed mostly to mean make-up/break-up questions!

Looks like you're trying to delete tags fromto the wrong post. Go . Someone added the tags "
penis" and "vagina"
to this post. I'm unable to remove them.

Tags: I hate how they have to be crunched into one word. What's the policy/ettiquette about using underscores? Does it break the database? Or should I avoid them just because they're not convention, therefore no one will know to search for them?

Pony: All posts by user suchandsuch tagged soandso? As it is, on a user's posting page, there's a list of frequently-used tags, but if you follow the links, you get
all posts so tagged, when what you might expect (and even, in some cases, want) is just that user's posts so tagged.

Why don't people tag their posts? A simple addition of Colbert to the previous thread would have made it insanely easy to find.

Someone added tags to my
post. I'll wear the 'obit' and 'obituary' but the '.' has to go. When I try to delete it i get "Looks like you're trying to delete tags fromto the wrong post. Go ."

Robots.txt for the <tagname>.metafilter.com domains should exclude all rebots. Currently the robots reindex the entire site for each subdomain.

I didn't put the tag 'gay marriage' on
my post, and I didn't change the formatting so as to make comments #2 & #7 nonsensical.
That's 'cos I didn't see it as being about gay marriage. I guess someone else did. You have got my email address, so...

Tags with "multiple words in quotes" instead of onewordwikistyle (and clear guidelines on the tagging convention) might prevent people from making
such messes with their tags. (I know the posting area clearly says multiple words should be strung together, but people just don't read, and it's not intuitive.) Granted, I know this would screw up the hundreds of posts already tagged, so then maybe this is better off as a another call for a trusted "tagging clean-up committee"

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I was wondering if readers would ever be able to add tags to a thread. The reason I am asking is that when I wanted to show the video linked at the top of
this thread to a friend, I first looked
here. When I did find what I was looking for soon after, it occured to me that if I could just add a video tag to the thread, it might help someone else. Again, I apologize for for whining about something that might already be a resolved issue - I don't frequent Metatalk much.
