Vague links vaguely annoying
It's kind of anoying when people link to things without any description of what's actually behind the link. That's sort of like "Click here", which is also annoying.
It would be nice if more people described the site/article/whatever they were linking to withen within the link text or the body of the post, or at least did a title="" attribute on the tag. Would save some time finding the interesting stuff, especially on those high-volume days.

Which is worse to complain about, people or things?
I am compelled to wonder:
If we tallied 1) posts where people are bitching about taking something to metatalk vs 2) posts where people are bitching about people bitching about taking something to metatalk (an extra half-point for pre-empting the first-level bitching), who would come out on top?
stop the madness.

CSS font issue on Linux
I dunno what the deal is, dunno if it is just Netscape for Linux or what, but the class on your pages labeled 'monthday' look very very very pixelized on my screen. Is this purposeful?

New feeds available.
New feeds of MetaFilter are available.
There's a handy deepleap plugin
and a pure xml feed of the 24 hours of headlines (currently cut down to ~50 characters in length but I feed the entire post).
I'll whip up a RSS/RDF channel soon and put it at my.netscape, my.userland, or meerkat.

Opening MeFi development?
Matt: I admittedly don't know much about the development process you use for Meta*, whether it's all you (which is the impression that I get) but have you ever considered opening it up?

Wendell is the voice of serious reason.
What is MetaFilter coming to when Wendell is the voice of serious reason.
Front page text gets narrower
It's kind of fun, watching the text on the front page get increasingly narrow, but it's just too much of a good thing.
What causes that, and how can I prevent me ever causing that?

How many TOY INVENTORS are out there that MATTEL has screwed, infringed on or been frivolously sued by? email me with your stories.

MetaFilter stuff on CafePress!
So there's shirts and mugs now. Full disclaimer: I'm making $3 from each shirt sold, to help support the site, while the mugs are being sold at cost.

New Server Update
The new server is online and working great. Let me know if anyone finds any problems, I'm still adding all the subdomains (metafilter.net, ticketstubs.org - no I didn't forget about that project, fairvue.com, etc.) to server, so they should be back within an hour.

Can we search for links?
We can search for specific text, but is it possible to expand the search capability to include sites linked to? (Search for any links to www.whatadeal.org/foo/ for example.) This would help in determining if something is a repeated link or not.

New Comments Only
I tread warily here, but... Matt, you've been working on customisation and filtering, have you considered a preference that would display only new items? I've looked at the current Prefs page and don't see it, nor do I think it's come up in these threads discussing the filtering feature set (obvious apologies if I'm walking back over old, tired ground...).
A simple boolean should be enough to get started with this:
[ ] Show me only thread that have new comments
I'm assuming that you either consider a new thread to automatically be a new comment as well in the back end, or that you can relatively easily do so. Since the db already "knows" what we've read, you'd be screening us from any threads that have had no activity. The benefit would be to allow setting the "show number of days" up higher to track discussions you are interested in, without having to wade through the many, many threads that have their day or two in the MeFi sun and then go the way of all things.

Preview again....
I was wondering if MetaFilter's tendancy to turn character codes into the characters they represent is because of the preview process, and that's why I'm testing this: < >

Staying on topic
Okay here goes nothing. This one's about topic drift, and what is the proper way of handling it, if there is such a thing.

Member Power Rankings
In the past we've discussed how to filter posts or adding "ignore" or "love" tags to certain people. The Raging Bull investment site has an interesting system for ranking users with dollar signs: Member Power Rankings

I'd like to request an expansion on the profiles feature in MetaFilter
Profiles... It just occurred to me that I need a scorecard to keep track of everyone in here. I'd like to request an expansion on the profiles feature in MetaFilter. [more]

Useful information sources from the front page
Are you suffering from information overload? For my own bookmarking benefit, I scanned the front page of MeFi and picked the best links. The list is pretty impressive. Consider this a massive condensed version of what several of you consider to be the premier news sources and content providers on the Internet. Did I miss any? Should some not belong on the list? Got milk? [MORE]
