Article About Denial of Death in China
In the last year, I read an article (maybe on Metafilter) detailing recent changes in Chinese attitudes toward death, from a public, community event, to something to be hidden and feared. Now I can’t find the article anywhere. Can you please help? Thank you.

Help me find a recent post about guide for bereaved on what next
In the last couple of months I saw a post on the blue or green about a detailed guide for people who had a relative die, about all the things you will have to do if you are responsible for making arrangements and tidying up as it were. I cannot find it. Can you? Really want to share it with someone who sadly very much needs it.
Thanks for all the help
Hey, just wanted to say thank you for all the help in several recent health related AskMe questions. They were all about about my wife, Lisa (lynnshaze), who was having a hell of time of it, health wise.
Sadly, she passed on March 18, at the house, surrounded by loving family members.
While Lisa was wasn't an active member on Metafilter, we'd often talk about the site and what was going on here. We definitely discussed the various advice offered on her health issues, which was deeply appreciated.
She once said she often used the site to see what "foolishness" I was up to though, heh.
Family and friends wrote and drew messages on her casket before putting it to rest, which was very cathartic and soothing. Several people remarked they'd want something similar at their funeral, so I share these these photos with y'all to show how beautiful that went.
Thanks again, and as a gentle nudge, have your affairs in order (will, power of attorney, health directive) as it makes things so much easier for the survivors.
God bless.

effbot's passing
Hi All,
I see he hasn't been active here since 2017(?) but since he was a member for so long, I wanted to share what I just saw on reddit.

Rest in Peace, MovableBookLady
Hi everyone. I'm here with a heavy heart to let you know that our beloved MovableBookLady has passed away. I heard the sad news from her best friend, Amy, who took the time to send me a thoughtful reply during this difficult time. From Amy: "She very much enjoyed her relationship with all of you! You were a source of laughter and joy to her! Thank you so much for being part of her life!" [more inside]
RIP Samizdata
Samizdata's mother let me know that he died last night of a massive heart attack. He was 51. Memorial links, etc. will be provided when they appear.
I knew him here and on Twitter, where he was a chatty, thoughtful and supportive presence. I'll miss him a lot. [more inside]

Say goodbye to gman
As some of you may know, former Toronto Mefite gman (Gabe) has been battling cancer for the last several months. Its been a long, hard fight, during which no stone was left unturned in the search for his cure, taking him from Ontario to the U.S., to Paris, and on to Heidelberg, Germany, then finally back home to Canada a few weeks ago.
His wife and friends sent out an email this weekend, and with their permission, the message has been adapted and presented here for Mefites who knew him: [more inside]

Bruce H. passed away
My brother and long time user "Bruce H." passed away at his home on 6 January, 2018 and asked me to let folks know so that his contacts would not be left wondering "whatever became of Bruce H.?" He was as the oldest son in a very large family and we all miss him dearly. Thank you all - Kerstin
Obit Post Fatigue
It seems like there have been more and more obit posts lately. I understand that some luminaries have passed, but is it really necessary to post an obit for every celebrity/musician? Do these posts live up to the "Best of the Web" standard we set for posts to the Blue? [more inside]
Mourning online-only friends
It's been a month of losses for MetaFilter, with three members passing away in as many weeks. This article from the Guardian seems appropriate:
It turns out losing online friends feels as bad as the death of 'real life' ones.
Word for the dying?
My grandfather is dying. I am on my way to help my uncle and grandmom take care of him. I knew this day would come and at some point in the past I thought I had favorited a comment about how to help the dying let go. I cannot find the comment. Can you all help me find it? It was something along the lines of "it is ok. You did good. We will be ok."but I think there was more than that.
Cheerwine has passed away.
Please tell someone to remember to tell MetaFilter when you die
This MeTa is inspired by a conversation in the chat room in which we realized that despite our wishes to know when other members of the community died, most of us didn't yet have a plan in place to ensure that our fellow MeFites would be notified of our own deaths. I've since told my husband how to find the Contact Form, and if he forgets I have a few MeFites as FB friends (he won't forget to update my FB, at least) -- what's YOUR plan to get your dots?
MeFi helped me through the darkness.
Five years ago today I lost my wife suddenly and unexpectedly.
MeFites came out of the woodwork with words of support, hugs, shipments of books, postcards, notes, and even pie!
I got advice from others who had been through similar tragedies; new friends and penpals; all together, it was an awesome show of love and caring. I made it through the darkness, and since then have also been able to help others who have had the same thing happen to them.
I just want to say thanks, again, to everyone. If this seems disjointed, it's because I can't find the right words to express how I feel.

holdkris99's death was a hoax.
So, we were lied to. The good news is that holdkris99 is fine, rather than dead. He's also banned, his wife's (?) account is banned, and they're not welcome back to Metafilter, ever. [more inside]

Should the profiles of deceased MeFites be preserved?

A brief period of mourning
Every obit thread on MeFi since the start of time* has been a flood of periods/full stops. Why did the Michael Jackson thread become a mess of bad taste jokes with barely an orphaned punctuation mark in sight.

Another "Best of Metafilter" request.
So, my grandfather died today (as I anticipated a few months ago), and one of my first reactions is to look to Metafilter for comfort and guidance. I've found a few relevant threads on my own (just taking a cursory glance at ColdChef's posting history helps put death in perspective), but I'd appreciate other mefites' help: what are the most helpful, or comforting, or grounding threads you've read on the site that have to do with death and grieving? An Update on me AskMe about a sick fish
RIP Fish Daddy . An update for this thread. I bought my fish anti-biotics, but sadly it was too late and he passed this morning. I also bought a test kit for amonia, nitrite and nitrate and am pleased to report that all is well with the water, suggesting that I am not the bad fish-taker-carer I feared I might be. A little bit of nitrate, but it seems that's not actually toxic. Anyway, thanks to all who offered advice.

Someone died, and it was still funny, apparently.
Death to Reporters! • The Vindication of Eason Jordan! • Pre-emptive strike! • Why do you hate America so much? • Looks like Nicola Calipari's death is another great opportunity for sneering, soulless political point-scoring. Why was the only semi-respectful treatment of the story the only one to get deleted?
