Good Advice
What is the biggest life decision you've made based on answers to one of your AskMe questions? How did that decision work out for you? [more inside]
Just wondering about the etiquette of threadsitting
When someone posts to AskMefi, is there a standard etiquette that posters should be knowing to follow? Something like "Do not post any responses for 24 hours after you've posted your question or else you will be threadsitting/tempted to threadsit," perhaps? I avoid Metafilter for 24 hours after I post anything because then I feel like an embarrassed ass asking a question, but that's just me. I was wondering if this was any kind of ... more official thing for everyone else, or should be, or what.
Pepsi Blue Dot EDU?
Has anyone else noticed the weird attention that this AskMe about a small liberal arts college in Iowa has attracted?
I get that everyone is welcome to pay their $5 to sign up and say their piece, but it smells a little like astroturf to me. [more inside]
From WBEZ Chicago, I'm Ira Glass. Today on our show, MetaFilter.
In the This American Life blog post which is a list of the staff's favorite lists of other sites' favorite This American Life episodes, Ira links to a 2005 AskMeFi thread in which MetaFilter members named their favorites. Notably, there was remarkable consensus among lists of that vintage and the lists that were published this month to observe the show's 500th episode.
I'm fairly surprised there hasn't been a more recent thread along those lines.
A Pony with a Green Check Cutie Mark
So if you look at an Ask thread on its own, best answers are marked with a distinct background.
However, in Recent Activity, best answers are marked with a green check. That's because "my answers" are marked with a distinct background.
I find this unnecessarily confusing and would appreciate some consistency.
Ideas from the floor on the best solution are welcome!

Academic Integrity: Policy on Ask?

Help me find the story about a hilarious/offensive conference intro...
I'm going bananas trying to find a comment that I *think* I read on the green. The story was about an intro at a conference, or maybe at just a business meeting? And the person giving the talk lead with a pretty raunchy or out-there joke or anecdote, after which half the people balked and left and the other half stayed and had like, the best conference ever. I seem to remember that the joke-teller was a woman in a male-dominated field, but I could be wrong about that. IIRC, this story was told reverently, not disparagingly, and I think it appeared within the last two years. Is this ringing any bells?
Pony Request: 160 hours between AskMes?
I like to post AskMes at around 10 am on Tuesdays.
If I have my post ready at 9:15 or 9:30, I'm prevented from posting until it's been a full 168 hours since my last post.
I think the one-post-a-week rule works really well, but it would be nice if it were a little less strict.
Would you consider changing it from 168 hours between posts to 160 hours or 162 hours or even 166 hours? [more inside]
Old AskMe: if Apple had designed a car?
Within (I think) the last couple years, someone had asked in Ask MetaFilter something to the effect of, what new cars are the Apple products of cars? That is, what cars these are Apple-like in designs and details, quality of materials, user-friendliness, etc. I can't find this thread now—does anyone remember it? Thanks.
I need help finding a recent Askme with a list of tech job boards
I thought there was a question recently from someone looking for a job that basically said - "Here is where I'm looking online...is this the best I can do?" Someone in the 3rd or 4th comment provided a list of other job boards to look for work. I think the search and the boards were all IT/tech related but can't remember exactly. I've tried some key word and tag searches and have scanned ask questions though mid-December but can't seem to locate the question. The searcher might have been located near Chicago or the west coast.

It's not like they'll be getting into legal trouble over it...
From the FAQ: "Do not post a question to AskMetafilter assuming you can have it removed once it has been answered. This is unfair to the people who answered the question and diminishes the usefulness of the site. "
Yet the poor soul who wasn't getting the answers they wanted was able to delete ">their question without a problem? What gives?

Mainly cat name suggestions and obvious DTMFAs
I like to read interesting Ask Metafilter questions, although I rarely post anything myself. The Popular Favorites page is a good way to find these, but I've also noticed that questions with a lot of answers (say, over 50) are usually worth checking out too, even if they don't necessarily get a lot of favorites. Is there any way to view the AskMe site/feed in a way that only shows questions that have received more than a certain number of answers?

Ugh, I'm just going to say it: continuously posting to this breakup advice in Ask is lazy and more often than not it doesn't really fit the situation. I wish people would speak to the actual specific break-up someone is asking about or just stay out of it. [more inside]
Why is my cat doing $weirdthing?
Ask Metafilter is becoming less useful as the site grows.
As the site has grown in popularity and more people join just to ask questions, the ratio between people who are knowlegeable and people who ask questions has fallen. This means that the questions on AskMe are coming in so thick and heavy that questions are buried before they can get answered properly. [more inside]

Educated Guess
"Five years ago, I joined MetaFilter. MetaFilter began as—and primarily remains—an online space for members to share interesting links and comment on them. Period, end of sentence. Pony Request: Save Draft for Ask Metafilter
I find myself thinking of questions I want to ask when it's been only 5, 7, 9 days from my last question. Then day 10 rolls around and I can't remember what it was. Then something else comes up, and I ask a question about it, and like clockwork the next day I remember what that VERY IMPORTANT (but not urgent) question I want to ask was. Would it be possible for us to save a draft of a question or of multiple questions while we are working on them/formulating our thoughts/waiting for the clock to run out?

What are some of AskMe's fastest, most amazing success stories?
The sidebar (see Apr 12) featured this post, in which someone's seemingly obscure question was answered in just six minutes. I think MY experience was even more amazing (as my question was more obscure), though it did take Gator an hour and ten minutes to cough up an answer. What are some other AskMe Astounding Stories of Snappy Answers to Obscure Questions?
Why are Popular Favorites scrambled?
I don't usually have time to read all of the questions on AskMeFi, so I rely on the Popular Favorites (24 hours) tab to screen the submitted questions for those found most interesting by other MeFites. The problem is that because of the way they are sorted I sometimes miss some.
Would it be possible to sort them chronologically by the time and date of submission, the most recent being at the top of the list? That way I could scroll down the list until I get to the question I remember from my last browsing session. What do others think? Thanks!

Thousands of moderators
Facebook has an open position for a Questions Community Manager. The text itself is pretty fascinating with superlatives like"anything you can dream up", "thousands of moderators" and "the full resources of Facebook at your disposal". I obviously thought about AskMe and Jessamyn, and she agreed it was an interesting Meta post.
Knowing that communities start from the ground up, I am especially interested in thoughts about how such a gigantic operation can be handled, if it can at all. [more inside]
