Completely harmless posts in a non-contentious thread. What the hell is up?
I propose we brainstorm some policy changes to put a stop to people basically asking for a public beat down and getting it when they get frustrated with having their comments deleted. [more inside]
I was under the impression that derailing & off-topic comments (especially at the beginning of a thread) were going to be automatically deleted more often now that mod staffing is decreased. Do we have a community consensus backing up that standard? [more inside]
I posted a question tonight in the society culture section, and I'm baffled about why it was deleted. [more inside]
The deletion of this thread ("An Open Letter to Paula Deen" by Michael William Twitty) made me wonder about one aspect of "kind of a double" deletions. [more inside]
Are questions that ask for advice and perspectives from those who have gone through similar experiences now considered chatfilter? I think this question should have stayed up.
From the FAQ: "Do not post a question to AskMetafilter assuming you can have it removed once it has been answered. This is unfair to the people who answered the question and diminishes the usefulness of the site. " Yet the poor soul who wasn't getting the answers they wanted was able to delete ">their question without a problem? What gives?
I think other versions of this post linking to a video of Mormon temple ceremonies ought to stand if they're offered. [more inside]
I wrote a post to AskMeFi asking if anybody wanted to translate some song lyrics into Spanish. My post was deleted and the deleter said it was really for jobs. I just thought somebody for the hell of it would want to do this. Did my post really require deletion?
Does responding to a comment automatically make something "chat"? [more inside]
Would I know if some of my comments had been deleted? [more inside]
Could we get a time stamp added to deletion reasons? They are the only type of comment that isn't time stamped, so all we know is that the deletion occurred sometime after the last comment (or sometime between posting and any comments).
I don't think posters on the green should be able to have their questions deleted just because they are done with them or don't like the answers they are receiving. [more inside]
These are Bad AskMe Comment Deletions. [more inside]
Is there still a page that shows all the deleted Metafilter threads? Because I was interested in the Occupy Oakland thread that was posted today, and I'd like to see the outcome of what happened to it. [more inside]
This post was deleted for the following reason: Pretty thin for a notoriously hot-button issue; there might be a way to do this, but as a stand-alone – not so much. -- taz [more inside]
This FPP was deleted by a junior mod (restless_nomad) well after a senior mod (cortex) made a comment. Is cortex's participation not a tacit approval (in a "this can stay" sense) of the post?
This post had 126 comments before it was deleted. I'm curious, what is the record number of comments made in a deleted thread? Do you still take the number of comments made into consideration before deleting? [more inside]
Was there stuff deleted out of this thread? There appear to be comments referencing material that's nowhere to be found. [more inside]
It seems a comment was deleted at the beginning of this thread, but several comments responding to it remain extant. This is confusing. Can something be done about it? [more inside]
The feature alerting us to new replies in AskMefi is awesome. Is it possible to have one that also alerts us to deletions? [more inside]
My last three posts have all been deleted. Just out of curiosity, how many more deleted posts do I need to win the record? [more inside]
"It's an awful scene and I know it's making the poliblog rounds, but it's also basically "here is an awful thing that happened" without any meat to it and folks who are paying any attention to this election cycle are pretty likely to see it themselves at TPM or elsewhere." This seemed like a reasonable deletion reason to me. So, I'm confused as to why the second Rand Paul Curb-Stomping post is less deleteworthy than the first, considering that they're basically identical links to a story on left-wing blog? [more inside]
As far as I can tell, there's three factors at play with deleted posts – moderator opinion, initial crowd opinion (comments), and initial crowd opinion (flagging). And I'm kind of seeking to understand how it interplays, [more inside]
May we please have place holders for deleted comments. [more inside]
I don't know whether this is possible or desirable, but could we have a count of our deletions somewhere on our profile page? [more inside]
Did we really need to delete this FPP just because various defenders of MeFis indie street cred shat in this thread and presumably flagged it a lot? That's kind of a shame, because other people were enjoying it.
What is the mod policy on noting when comments have been removed? [more inside]
Should a user purposely post something in their AskMe thread, with the idea that they can get it or the thread deleted or made anonymous later?
Could we get an email when one of our posts is deleted?
3 FPP Palins in one day? Enough already! [more inside]
Cortex, "weird" posts are now deleted? Where is that in the guidelines? Or, more specific, my "weird" posts are deleted, because I see weird posts on AskMeFi quite often that aren't deleted. [more inside]
I just posted a thoroughly incorrect comment in response to my own AskMe thread. Could an admin please remove it? It is at: http://ask.metafilter.com/102955/How-can-I-travel-between-continents-without-emitting-much-CO2#1492050
For God's sake, can we delete this moron post using two poorly written old articles to set up a point-counterpoint that is as trite as it is pointlessly inflammatory? I thought posting things just to forward one's own opinions and to stir up meaningless, hot-air controversy was against the guidelines.
What was wrong with my post? [more inside]
From whatever mod deleted it, I just wondered why my repsonse to this post was deleted, and what exactly is so offensive about it that it needed to be removed. A Mefi mail is fine, but if you want it public that's OK too. Thank you. Truly, I don't care about the deletion, but am truly interested about the policy/ethics involved.
Did anyone notice that there were NO deleted posts on the Blue for all of June 7th? How common is that? [more inside]
What are the disadvantages of being a woman? ---> Fine. What are the disadvantages of being a man? ---> Deleted. [more inside]
Vacapinta's first kill. This is going to work out just like we've been asking. I drink (coffee) to the glory of your new might, vacapinta!
Not sure why the "Militarization of Consumer Companies" thread by five fresh fish was killed? [more inside]
SPEED RACER, R.I.P. [more inside]
Is there a new policy now where Matt/Jess/cortex are deleting comments in the Blue that are a bit snarky/one-linerish? Because I remember a one-liner in the Lyndon Johnson thread that's no longer there. Is that because Matt thinks that the first few comments set the tone for the thread, so ya'll are trying to keep things on-topic from the get-go? BTW, I'm well aware that I basically set myself up here for a rapid succession of one-liners. Have at it, folks.
Temporary commenting lockout for bad behavior in AskMe? Details and thoughts inside. [more inside]
I think Jessamyn needs a hug. First there was this and then this. I liked the sarcasm of this one and was thankful she stepped into this !narcoterror! thread. Frustration bubbles here and then, in the best delete ever, explodes.
