AskMe Noise
Stop breaking the rules! Do not post a comment if you don't have an answer or are helping to look for one. That the asker is breaking the rules isn't an excuse. [more inside]
Mission Accomplished
Is there a point to this other than to encourage a pissfest?
We hate hip-hop
Born Every Minute
I strongly disagree with This Thread being posted.
ask.met... er, I mean provoke.metafilter?
Is this in any way acceptable? By which I mean posting a question that you "know" will be flame-bait, and then taunting those who answer?
Self-Linking Callout
kirkaracha might need to be reminded of the "no self-link" policy.
Self-link
Evidence
Personally, I think it's a relevant and useful link, but I don't think it should be up to the poster to make the judgment call, do you?

Self-link. Don't link to things you're involved with.
Speculation in AskMe answers.
So idle speculation really is "what the green is for"? That's a surprise.
Aiding and abetting in AskMe.
Could we outlaw cryptic posts & headlines?
I posted this double in large part because the headline for this post from a few days before was so cryptic that it passed under my radar. I'm aware that there can be no official policy outlawing cryptic posts (I'm not arguing for a strict policy, either), but such doubles are bound to occur when the front pages are filled with non-descriptive links. Judging by this and other comments in my thread, I'm not alone in wishing that folks would provide a bit more info with their FPPs. At the least, it could save wasted time on the part of posters and readers alike. Wondering what the wider MeFi community thinks about this.
Keep AskMe Clean, People.
Holocaust Denial Callout
In a handful of comments, kjc managed to casually explain us that Anne Frank's diary is a postwar forgery and Elie Wiesel (whom he calls "Weasel") is a liar. The user seems to have a problem with the Jews, you know, the "indifferent" ..."tribe" that the first time around didn't accept Jesus as the Savior and won't accept him when he comes back, the ones who "holocausted" "tens of millions of Russians" and, why not, there's time to enlighten us on the Jewish Bankers who did many bad things using "the Rothschilds International Crime Syndicate". Now, none of my friends belong to the Klan or to neonazi groups so in a way I might be guilty of discriminating against nazis, but really, revisionist lies and antisemitism are hardly part of that elusive Best of the Web (especially when they're stink bombs planted in great FPP's like madamjujujive's). Also, keep in mind that around here people get banned for saying "fuck you" to other users or for making vitriolic fun of the overweight and their eating habits, so speech seems to have some limits here already after all. Policy on single link product FPPs
This is a bad post. I don't dislike single FPPs, but a single link that points to a single product for sale on the internet, with no extra information or interesting stuff...is not in any way showing the best of the internet. There are hundreds of these for sale from all sorts of companies, and they've been around for a long, long time.
To top it all off, I question that and my post (containing one word: "Spamfilter?") was apparently removed. I can deal with that, but the issue at heart still exists.

Racism on AskMe.
Is it really OK to promote ethnic stereotypes? If not, why do we have this?
One link video posts?
It seems to be acceptable to post videos with just one link now, but can we get some clarification on what makes a video a good video to post? For example, what makes this video a good FPP?
Bad newsfilter post.
Calling out a post with ulterior linkage
Googlebombs on the front page?
Is this questions creepy and/or offensive?
Dumb Pro-Choice Thread Callout
Speaking as a pro-choice person, this thread has to be the dumbest collection of arguments in favor of abortion rights that I've read anywhere in a long time, currently topped off with an attempt to draw an analogy between aborting fetuses and shredding paper. Am I missing a giant troll tag here, or is MeFi really getting as stupid as it appears?
Nip in the BuD
Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy
Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy. Complete with image hotlinking, and instructions for disabling refer sending, to avoid .htaccess protection. Crap like this is the worst of the web, IMO.
Self-policing the self-police
I'm sure this has been MeTa'd to death. At least I'm pretty sure. Even so, I'm going to drag out the horse and make him glue:
What can we constructively do to curtail the post vigilantes or post thought police? [mi]

Why do these exist?
all google, all the time
Do we really need an FPP every time Google releases, or announces, or speculates about the possibility of perhaps one day developing, a new product or service ?
In addition, do we need a new FPP every time someone combines one of said products or services with another vendor's?

Does this question promote violence?
Cleanup in aisle 25154... do we really want to be suggesting assault in an ask metafilter thread?

A seemingly editorializing post
What do you think about this? (mi)
Chatfilter cleanup
A single link to Amazon's front page? Really?
Yes, we all await the new Hitchhiker's Guide movie with equal parts fear and excitement. But an FPP linking to Amazon's home page to show the trailer for a new movie is bad form.
Too graphic for the front page?
too graphic for metafilter?
Self-link detected.
They're clamoring for it, and here it is. This post contains a nakedly aggressive self-link. For shame, doc.
Thank you, Matt
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Matt for deleting the Invisibility/Flight thread in Ask.Me
Not our most shining moment....
Not our most shining moment, as spotted by Leonard. Hopefully it's just holiday stress manifesting itself as assholery that'll blow over after the new year. One can hope.
Let's argue in threads instead of in MetaTalk
Perhaps it's time to reconsider using MetaTalk to denounce single comments and only slightly contentious single posts. [More inside.]
Newsfilter callout
The Final Nail. I haven't been reading as much lately---I'm am hoping that the election will be over soon so the excuses are gone for shitty posts. But, there it is.
A double post. It is a Newsfilter post, that isn't even news since it has been talked about for over a decade. It is clearly does not meet the stated standard. It is a classic troll: toss a turd that you *know* will incite much argument, for no apparent reason.. It is a single-link to a newspaper. It is a blatant amount of negative campaigning even while we try to encourage voting with a new link at the top of the page.
For the love of god, it is a self-Godwinizing post!
Matt posted the very next post, 30 minutes later, so there is no chance he didn't see the post.
Yet... it remains there on the blue.
It is the piece de resitance of the the shithole Matt has willingly allowed MeFi to become. I would say amazing if it wasn't so sad....

Jokes in AskMe are no good
Can we please make it stop? It's bad enough that we really want a 100+ post thread about same sex marriage every day. Do we have to drag it into AskMe?
This post -- an askme? Discuss.
This question about the posited decline and fall of aliens in film might be worth addressing here...
Single-link op ed?
Why is this on the front page? For those too lazy to click, "this" is a post that consists of a link to the latest Thomas Friedman column, and a statement that's basically "I agree with what Tom said." One link. No questions.
I went and reread "what makes a good post" and, I noticed, there's nothing about this scenario. If you want to post something with next to no content, that's Newsfilter, and that doesn't seem to be asking any questions to the community, and that only has one link--go ahead. I think there should be some kind of guideline, since this happens at least 2 times a day (or at least, that's my made up statistic and I'm sticking to it). I mean, this seems way more content-less than the fried chicken thread from yesterday.

Posts with no context at all.
Quick and lazy newsfilter posts.
Can we criticize?
It's great that Matt is just one of the guys when it comes to posting but, with respect, this post of his seems way below average. It's a short news item, from a big media source, which will already be known to those who follow the news. The post, though, is not the point. My question is "To what extent are we allowed - or able - to criticize his posts as if he were just another user?" Is it ungracious, ungrateful or downright rude, for instance? Fwiw, my opinion is that special treatment and undue deference are just as annoying and even insulting.
What to do with out of line comments
WAY outta line. Ideologically speaking, I'm far, far closer to y2karl than I am to the victim of this jibe, but it left an awful taste in my mouth.
This is the kind of thing that makes us all look shallow and vituperative. Outside of the importunement of a heartfelt email (already sent), what venue does the average MeFite have for redress when something like this crops up?

Take it to Sportsfilter
Here's a fun brain teaser for ya. Wouldn't sports oriented front page posts like this and this be better suited in SportsFilter? And if not, why not?
Stop picking on the n00bs
I'd like to suggest that there might be a bit of a danger these days of stripping some potential away from the site. A lot of new users are being called out (or belittled) rather promiscuously for posts or comments that are often no different than what they have been accustomed to seeing from Metafilter elders pre-14k (as well as post-14k). Vigilance is worthy and needed in order to protect the integrity of Metafilter, but I suspect that there is a risk of creating an atmosphere of paranoia in which many promising new members will be afraid to post anything that they are not absolutely certain will not reap condemnation. (more inside...)
How about a little meat to go with that book?
Can we call out the comment without calling out the commenter?
Have we at last completely abandoned any hope of civility and reasonable discourse on Metafilter? There's disagreement, and then there's constant, consistent patterns of personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with one in the slightest. Is there no line to be drawn, or is Matt on vacation? (links inside)
Chatfilter posts are bad posts.
Removing Where's Dick Post
Uggh... How will this foster a discussion any different than the other "Where's Dick" threads we have had without having any linked supporting evidence.
Bad Post Callout
What do we conclude about a thread that simply poses a question?
