I wore my brand spankin' new Mets-style MetaFilter t-shirt out in the streets of New York yesterday. Hilarity ensued. [more inside]

Anyone else unable to add a custom MeFi icon webclip to their iPhone home screen? I just get a snapshot of the page, instead of the nice blue MF logo (which was working for me earlier this year.) Other sites with this functionality are working fine. Tech Specs: first gen iPhone, OS 2.0, unlocked and jailbroken.

Because for some reason I can't sign into metafilter's main page, I thought I'd give a brief update on the situation in this thread here. [more inside]

Why is MeFi not part of the social news site boom? Digg, reddit, newsvine, and others are the lucrative hot trend, but MeFi seems to do the same thing better (no Ron Paul spam), smarter, and for longer, and we even have favorites, for those who want voting-like capabilities. So why is MeFi not included with these young whippersnappers? And why are they not learning from MeFi's evolved model of light moderation, talk pages, and strong self-policing?

FYI, the "Best of" link is a little borked. I'm seeing no winners for Aug 10th, and two winners for Aug 9th, with a ton of runners up on the 9th.

Athanasius Kircher has joined metafilter (hooray!). But wait...He is not here to enlighten us, but rather to demand that jonson give them credit for his Blue Fugate post.

I have to disagree. I thought things were just getting interesting. There was no name-calling or other objectionable activity going on, was there? What gives?

What's the etiquette on posting stuff you've just seen at somewhere like BoingBoing? So far this morning, there's been 2 posts that appeared on BB in the last week. I saw them when they first came up there, and thought, "hey, this is neat, people on Mefi would like this," but then decided against posting them here. I know that sometimes one can encounter a flurry of "Xfilter!!!!" comments by doing something like that.
Should we actively avoid posting things we've seen on other, highly popular link-oriented blogs?

The Delta is (probably) declaring bankruptcy thread, which features nothing more than a rumor backed up by a link to Delta's home page, is truly teh suck.

Would commenting Fifteen times in one thread be considered breaking the 'chat threshold'? This question was asked before and Matt weighed in three times. Just wondering.

Oh where, oh where is the mefi IRC channel?
I'm a IRC addict and I wouldn't mind chatting with other mefi members.

We should be able to refer to a topic (i.e. whole of thread) using single link - in a way that will allow us to send it via email to other people who are likely to be interested, but don't use metafilter regularly.

Having just come back from meeting Matt and many other MetaFilterites at SXSW, (MeFi actually got name-checked on damn near every panel I attended...) I'm curious to see who would be interested in having some sort of in-person gathering where we could all get together to meet.
Or maybe even multiple ones, in SF NY and Austin, say...? Would anyone be up for that sort of thing? And what would we call it? MeFiFoFum Day?

it seems an awful lot of us regulars click-through to double posts, just to see how they will be handled. it's interesting, because a double post creates a whole new dynamic. we don't want thread-related discussion going on over there, but we apparently enjoy and even participate in the double post related discussion. do we need a name for this phenomenon, or at least a sniglet? other thoughts?
