Some time in the relatively recent past there was a discussion on one of Metafilter's sites wherein a user posted a snarky line something like "Hey Jimmy, don't get raped" in a discussion of an anti-rape or abuse meme/campaign that was current on Facebook at the time. Search is failing me.
It looks like a recent change to the markup of the site might have broken the "Metafilter favorites browser

what happened to Rory Marinich? I don't want to open any wounds or cause any trouble but he was one of my favorite users. I can't see anything in his post history that indicates why he's not longer here. Just wondering what happened.

I apologise if this has been covered before, but is there a way to search within a given users comments? I want to find a link I posted ages ago, but my search terms are way too general for a regular MeFi search.

Why not make a page that ranks users based on how many "favorites" their comments, FPPs, and questions garner? I'm not sure hard how this would be to create, but it might be a nice incentive to post quality items. Also, it would highlight some of the dedicated, and/or imaginative members of Mefi. Just a thought.
Neat! Metafilter links to an article
on DamnInteresting.com, creator of DamnInteresting and author of the linked article signs up for Metafilter account
Miguel’s AskMe post requesting info on the typical Metafilter user (correct answer: there is no typical Mefi user and a fiction writer would do better with an atypical character anyway) for his teleplay was deleted because it would have been more appropriately posted in MetaTalk. I always suspected that Miguel was here researching for his next novel. What’s your plotline for a Miguel Cardosa novel featuring Metafilter?
Daddy, I want a pony.
Further to me asking this
, I'd love it if Matt would make a(nother) RSS feed for each user, listing all of their contributions (posts and comments [or maybe just posts?]) - basically, a what-I-said-on-MeFi Feed. Is it a big strain on the server, making these feeds? There seem to be a lot per-user already.
On the user profile page, the "# of comments marked by others as a favorite" is incorrectly worded. I think that the wording should be changed to something like, "# of times contributions by 'user x' were saved by others" instead. Or is it possible to snip the dupes and only include the unique posts and comments that were favorited (in the # itself)? I read this thread,
but it didn't seem to discuss the language I'm referring to.
Cedar has posted an interesting AskMe question on how to occupy oneself during three months in the stir.
But when curious minds eager for details on how he came to such a predicament click on the Homepage URL link in his user profile page, they're greeted with a "Whoa!!" NSFW porn site.
Shouldn't he warn folks on the profile page? Should I or someone warn readers of the AskMe thread? What's the drill on something like this? [And I hate to be paranoid, but could it be possible this is an attempt to drive traffic to said porn site?]
I say we have an official MetaFilter census. It would be interesting to see where MeFites stand in terms of things like Race, Location, Religious Beliefs, etc. It would be entirely voluntary and anonymous of course. Any thoughts on this?

It was discussed in the Philly meetup thread, but this is the official thread complaining about the fact that the "crush" contact option doesn't seem to work.
Metafilter is the biggest site that I can edit a page (my user page) on. I'd like to have "I am the [my name] that went to so and so school, and so and so high-school and did so-and-so" so that if someone googled my name looking for me, they could find that. However, userpages are marked NOINDEX for robots, for to stop villians from using google to harvest stuff, I assume. Given that it would be trivial to write a script to go through all the user pages and snarf anything, and given that these are The Internets, is there a reasonable expectation that an email address or other information you put on a publicly viewable page will *not* be harvested? Doesn't everyone have a spam-catcher address for this purpose?
I recall a while back someone posted a sort of biography of another MeFi member using information gleaned from that person's comments and posts. Anyone remember that/have a link?
Speaking of User Numbers, what happened to the population count on the front page? How are we supposed to know where we stand if we don't know how many others are shoehorned into this tiny webspace?

RSS feeds per user?
Fun with statistics: I have always been curious to the percentage of "ghost accounts" on MeFi, and so today I decided to find out! I took a random sample of 263 (95% +/- 6) user accounts, and discovered that 61.2% of registered users have never commented or posted. Of the 38.8% who have posted, 45.1% have posted less than 10 comments, 42.2% have posted between 10 and 99 comments, and 12.7% have made more than 100 comments.
Does anyone when looking at responses to posts in The Blue actively look at the User ID # of the respondants and get a good feeling when most of the posts are from people with single, double, tripe or quadruple numbers?
Conversely, do you feel bad when those 17K rapscallions are the only people that respond?
