Hey! Have you taken a look at the
MeFi Wiki travel guides lately? As lots of MeFites of the Northern Hemispheric persuasion are gearing up for summer vacations, it would be great to have folks contributing again to the travel wiki by updating with travel AskMe threads. (
Previously).

There are a TON of Ask Me questions about basic home networking problems -- setting up wireless, why is my cable modem not working, how do I set up a wireless bridge, etc. Is anyone interested in working on a wiki page with common troubleshooting stuff related to that? Is that something that even
should go on the metafilter wiki?

I'd like to create a
MeFi Wiki page listing books that are frequently recommended in AskMe answers. Would anyone else be interested in such a resource and/or does anyone want to help out?

There are a lot of new people on MetaFilter and I want to make a Welcome to MeFi page on the wiki. Can you help me out with some things you wished you'd known when you were new here?

So I started a
Mefi Travel Guide on the wiki, since AskMes about travel are
pretty common. I'm going to plug away at this over the next couple of months, but please feel free to contribute. I think it could be pretty neat!

Is there any interest in creating a space on the
wiki to collaborate on future posts and prevent sniping?

I was experimenting with Google's search suggestions feature when I noticed that it gave some interesting results for "metafilter + [letter]". Since it returns the most popular search terms starting with that phrase, what you get for each letter is an A-Z listing of the most sought-after topics related to Metafilter. So without further ado, I give you...
Metafilter A to Z.

Is there a way to have MeFi Wiki "summary articles" (like
this one) appear permanently and visibly in a MeFi/MeTa/AskMe thread that they are linked to?

After prolonged badgering and complaints from certain individuals (you know who you are!), I've finally upgraded the

I know this has been brought up before, but I believe that it's frustrating enough to deserve being brought up again. Why is the wiki so spam-ridden?
Every time I go to look at it, at least 75% of the things I click on are spam or "DeletedPage: This page was WikiSpam. "
Seriously, If nobody's going to put in the effort to keep the wiki spam-free, why even bother to have it, especially now that we have a FAQ?

It seems that the Metafilter Wiki @ http://www.mssv.net/wiki.cgi was taken over by Xanax online, which promptly trashed the whole place, the shitheads

The
MetaFilter Wiki is being destroyed by vandalbots.
As recently as yesterday I used it to look something up, but its brain has been mostly melted. Can it be rolled back to an earlier snapshot? And can you make it so that only registered MeFi users can edit it?

Is the website
http://mssv.net/wiki.cgi?Home just a blog or is there some connection between it and metafilter? I was just getting more background info and this one seemed a tad OTT. Please don't tell me there's people praying towards SF.
P.S. The search option could be much better. Sorry Matt.

Did last year's wiki fiasco spoil April Fools frontpages for good, or did I miss the party this year?

The Wiki/FAQ has been pornified. I'd revert it to a previous version but I can't seem to figure out how. Could someone who knows how this stuff works please revert it and then let us know how it's done? (AskMe or Meta, when in doubt take it to Meta)

And lo, when the spammers did rear their ugly heads, the valiant Sir
RichardP did smite them. Mighty was his sword, and thus was the
Kingdom of Wiki spared the ugly wrath of pr0n.

it looks as though the
metafilter wiki has been spammed pretty badly by an online casino site, with several pages of info replaced with their url and some gibberish. i've emailed adrian but wonder if anyone else besides him might have a back up copy of the site.

Ok, funs over, the wiki code was totally killing the box. I just might keep it up for shits and giggles at a different location.

Okay, so we're having fun with the Metafilter April Fools Wiki, except, uhm, it doesn't work. :) At least not for me. I click 'Edit Page' and edit the page, but my edits are not saved. Or is it just that the db behind it all is just getting so hammered for all the junk and spam posts?

I for one welcome our injoking overlords. Now I feel all caught up. Don't get an injoke? Look it up. Is this useful? Does it make the injokes more or less funny? Is the community better or worse for this listing account of injokes at MeFiWiki? Does part of the humor involve an illusion of elitism? Does
Matt dislike all injokes or just some of them? Most of them? Will he buy me a pony? What do you, the viewers at home, think?
psst! go cubs!
