Metafilter team on WholeLifeChallenge?
A friend recommended I give WholeLifeChallenge a try to help me kickstart some healthy habits. There doesn't seem to be a Metafilter team that I can find, but I thought I'd check if any other Mefites are on there and might be interested in one. [more inside]

Happy birthday, Cortex!
I hope you got the weekend off to play.
We know the queue is there for just that reason.
To let the mods have downtime, just like folks.
And let us all cool off despite the season.
Your first birthday as our dear leader.
Hope this has made your life sweeter.
We'll also see you on the "Tweeter."
Dear Cortex, nothing could be neater!
Happy birthday, dude!

Favorites on the Front Page
I'm not a tech person so this may be a dumb question, but why don't favorites that I add stay displayed on the front page? [more inside]

A Fat Thumbed Pony
Between my fat thumbs and vintage iPhone 4 occasionally having browser stutters, I occasionally manage to mistakenly hit the [!] and scroll through the reasons list in one misplaced thumb swipe. I'm talented like that. [more inside]
I would ride this pony into a sunset and a title card that says The End.
On FanFare, would it be possible to have the option to subscribe to a film club like you can subscribe to a tv show? [more inside]
Warning - do not buy this IOS Metafilter reading App
This app,
MetaReader ("an unofficial client for MetaFilter"), is a paid app and (at least under ios7) DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. It crashes on launch. I recently got a refund from iTunes. I did contact the seller via email and twitter two weeks ago and even sent a full crash log in an email but haven't heard anything back - which is why I asked Apple for (and got) a refund.
I decided to make a meta to warn others because I am no longer listed as owning the app - because refund - and so can't leave a review on itunes to warn the unsuspecting. [more inside]

Improve Account Security With This One Weird Trick (Hackers Hate It)
Treat member's websites as external links?
I have my preferences set to open links in a new window, but if I click on a user's website from their Profile page, the site opens in the same window. Is it possible to get those links to act like other external links? Is there a downside to changing it that I'm not seeing?

Modern/Redesign Bugs
o Pagination is funny, I need and expect the last line of the previous page to be the first line of my next page.
o View magnification acts oddly/inconsistently. For a while, I thought I was hitting the touchpad on my laptop, but it's not me.
So, it's back to Classic for me.
Anyone else seen these problems?

Distracting the boys
I read it here in the last two years, but can't find it now; Can anyone link me to the post where a woman talks about how she was sent home from school for wearing spaghetti straps and exactly why that was so freaking unfair?
Any similar articles about girl's attire and being sent home from school is of course also welcome.

We're changing the way we store passwords at MetaFilter. You can help us test the new system by changing your password today. [more inside]

Are you married to someone Ask MetaFilter told you to dump?
There is a lot of DTMFA in Ask posts. Often, there's a lot of DTMFA in response to questions which involve a romantic relationship, but where the question is of the form "Who's right?" or "Where should we live?" or "Should we buy or rent?" but not "Should I D this MF?" I was just wondering: are there a lot of members who are now in marriages or other more-or-less permanent relationships with partners who've been the subject of dump-urging pileons in Ask? Or did all of you actually D the MFs as instructed?
Markdown for MeFi
As someone who finds writing in Markdown much easier than writing in HTML, I put together Markdown for MeFi. It's a browser extension that lets you use Markdown in your comments and posts. (Not sure what this Markdown thing is? Check out the short guide.) [more inside]

Darned title limits
Just curious, but what's the maximum length allowed for:
* usernames
* profile pages
* posts
* comments

Anyone having problems posting comments?
I am really frequently getting "Error—Comment Post Not Found" messages when attempting to post replies on the blue. Anyone else having similar problems? (I recognize the irony of asking this when it will be difficult for people to respond...)

Add to favorites straight from the Popular Favorites tabs
Would it be possible to add to favorites straight from the Popular Posts and Popular Questions pages? Just a + sign like on the main page? [more inside]
Pony: "X users favorited" mouseover tooltip
Might it be possible to have the tooltip that shows up when you mouseover the "x users marked as favorite" display the usernames that have favorited it up to that point. I expect you'd have to limit the total number to like...the first ten, or something? I guess it's a UX behavior that I expected but didn't see.

What works and doesn't work when creating FPPs?
Since WomensMarch, I've been making more FPPs off and on when something interesting crosses my path. So far, I'm generally pleased with how they've gone, but I've noticed some interesting variation. It's been making me curious, and I thought I'd ask more experienced posters: what kinds of advice do you have for new posters on the Blue? What kinds of things have you noticed that change how people respond to a post? How much effort do you put in when framing things?

103: Strictly Non-Palindromic
Recorded on Wednesday, this is Matt's first episode as a civilian, and we basically couldn't shut up so it's nearly two hours long, covering a little more than a month from March 4th through April 8th. [more inside]
Firefox is not loading full pages
I've recently switched back to using Firefox as my main browser. I've noticed there are a few web pages that don't load completely, and either content is missing or functionality is broken. I could probably live with it, but... the site I see it the most on is Metafilter. This can not stand! Details Inside... [more inside]

Metafilterians extensively quoted in today's Sunday NY Times Magazine
This thread, which discusses the NY Times article on raising teenagers is extensively cited in today's NY Times magazine. In particular, GuyZero, Sangermaine, Sys Rq, and Corb's comments are quoted!

The Virtues of Moderation
Included in volume 17 of The Yale Journal of Law and Technology is the article The Virtues of Moderation.
This Article provides a novel taxonomy of moderation in online communities. It breaks down the basic verbs of moderation—exclusion, pricing, organizing, and norm-setting—and shows how they help communities walk the tightrope between the chaos of too much freedom and the sterility of too much control. Scholars studying the commons can learn from moderation, and so can policy-makers debating the regulation of online communities.One of the case studies discussed is Metafilter.
OMG HAVE A GREAT SUMMMERRRR11111
On March 4, Matthowie announced he was retiring. On March 7, he commented that he'd be getting his retirement thread printed as a book. If you've been putting off signing his Internet retirement yearbook, you've get less than 24 hours to come up with an exciting message.
How do *you* pronounce 'MeFi'?
Hi MeFites. After many years of overthinking a plate of beans, I made a thing! I'm pleased to share my PhD dissertation about MetaFilter with you all. A simple question of how we pronounce our own nickname has unfolded into many years of research. This time spent would not have been as enriching or meaningful to me and to the field of sociolinguistics without the support and enthusiasm of my fellow MeFites. I say I made a thing, but really, you made this. Thank you. [more inside]
