Metatalktail Hour: more like metatakenap
This week's topic is man, who has the energy to come up with a topic? I'm bushed, you look bushed, let's just say we're gonna read a book on the couch and then immeeeeediately sack out of an hour. So it's an open thread, talk about that good nap you took or that nap you need, or talk about hey whatever.

Post Editing Pony?
Hi all. I realize this may very well be just me, but the inconsistency between the ability to edit comments after posting, while unable to do the same to main FPPs or questions, is starting to bother me. I occasionally make mistakes in my posts and have to contact the moderators for things like broken HTML or typos, which I could totally fix on my own if the site allowed me to do so. [more inside]

A jolly splendid place to express displeasure at fucking everything
A reasonable suggestion has been advanced, by MeFite pelvicsorcery, for another MetaTalk where one can decompress, vent, yell, scream and utter other statements of displeasure in response to climate change, the pandemic, politics, and anything and everything else of a frustrating, grating or infuriating nature. This is in the nature of previous threads such as here, here and here. Please proceed with unrestrained abandon within the box provided below. Thank you.

Metatalktail Hour: Show Us Your View!
Happy weekend, MetaFilter! Don't miss our August fundraising or this week's Weird Science theme! I really love when we do "show us your X" metatalktails, so this week I want you to show us the view out your window! Or, if you don't love your view (but I love seeing your view! No matter what it is!), show me your favorite local view in your town!
Theme Week: WEIRD SCIENCE!
Hey, MetaFilter! We're having a theme week, as part of our fundraising month! The theme for this week is WEIRD SCIENCE! I want to see all kinds of science posts, about stuff I would NEVER learn if it weren't on MetaFilter! Old science, new science, weird forms of life, neat rocks, misbehaving AI, I want it all! Tag your posts weirdscience, and feel free to share them in this thread. FILL MY LIFE WITH WEIRD SCIENCE, MEFI! [more inside]
Fantasy Football 2021
I skipped last year because uh 2020, but am happy to commish if other people are interested. I've done it through Yahoo before, which seems like a mostly OK free platform. Probably draft first week of September? Interested?

Blaseball anniversary post?
Is anyone working on a Year 1 blaseball post? I started to work on a Garages update (THIRTY ALBUMS) and got wondering if there was interest in collaborating on a post (or two?) sharing the works that have come out of the cultural event we've been participating in. The game itself is fairly ephemeral, but we've got SIBR archives, fan art and music, the Anchor's summaries, etc we can link to.
Larping in reference to Right Wing folks
I'd respectfully ask that people consider refraining from referring to people who attacked the US Capital, and right-wing nationalists who engage in acts of insurrection generally, as LARPers, LARPing, or other insulting references to my hobbyist community. [more inside]
Hey, it's a MetaFilter newsletter!
Something new we're trying out: a MetaFilter email newsletter. I want to share the first issue with y'all, to discuss and brainstorm about. For the moment, we're calling it...Untitled MetaFilter Newsletter. You can subscribe here. [more inside]

August is MetaFilter fundraising month
It's fundraising time! MetaFilter depends primarily on user and reader support to continue to operate: that funding pays for moderation, site development, and basic administrative costs like server hosting. It is increasingly difficult to operate a site like ours in the modern web economy, and your financial contributions through one-time contributions and recurring subscriptions have made, and will make, all the difference in keeping MeFi going.
You can start or increase your subscription here. I'll answer some questions about what we need, where the money goes, and what's coming up below, so come on inside if you want more detail. [more inside]

175: Don't Throw The Banana Peel In The Toilet
It's only the first day of August, but the weather in Portland is such that it already feeling like plural dog days have elapsed. And yet, through it all, a podcast episode drags itself through the sun-baked streets to appear, sweating and winded, on your doorstep. Come along with Jessamyn and I as we...chatter about MetaFilter? Basically what we normally do. This one's about an hour and 45. [more inside]
