Fanfare Pony / Feature Addition request

I know that Fanfare currently supports TV Shows, Books, Movies, and Podcasts, but is there any chance - or indeed any demand - for it to also support regular Youtube Webseries / Channels? [more inside]

Fanfare posts showing as deleted but aren't

There are posts in Fanfare showing as deleted, but there is no deletion reason showing, and if I click on them they are open for comments. Currently, Two-Lane Blacktop, Horror Club: Calvaire, and Shut Up And Drive show as deleted (from the top few posts.) Firfefox 44.0, Ubuntu latest version. (I have clicked for community input to see if anyone else has this issue on other browsers and OS's.)

Should Debates (and other unique events) be diverted to Fanfare?

Currently things like political debates (and similar unique events, such as Apple announcements) tend to play out in related threads on the Blue. Since that just adds to (usually) already-long threads, wouldn't it make sense to require that dedicated posts be made on the Purple? (I'm not alone in thinking so.)

Let's take clubs to the next level: Groups

Now that the book clubs are more or less up and running, why not kick them up a notch and make something like "Metafilter Groups"? An online meeting space to organize, discuss, and experience group activities (like reading books, doing online courses, playing video games, learning stuff, etc.) together with the nice folks here at MeFi. Tiny Pony

I'm a big fan of the 'popular favorites' page, but at the moment, the comments half features a number of posts from the Star Wars Fanfare thread. At least one of which contains about as large a spoiler as I can imagine - it kind of sucked to learn how the movie ends when I was just checking to see if Greg Nog made any good good jokes this week. Should Fanfare comments maybe be ineligible for that particular page?

This here, though, is the first I've seen of someone joining the site strictly for the discussion in FanFare. MyFanFare RSS feed?

I do a lot of my MeFi browsing through an RSS reader (NewsBlur if anybody cares). One page I cannot find an RSS feed for is MyFanFare, which is a great thing that could be made better IMO if it came in the shape of an RSS feed. Is there a pony frolicking in the fields nearby MeFi HQ that could fulfill this need? Are there others out there who also feel this pony would make a good addition to the MeFi stables?

Is this a problem with FanFare?

Perhaps this is confirmation bias, but it seems to me that many FanFare threads have descended into “this show or movie is bad, and you are a bad person for watching it.” This, despite that fact that the people making these statements are clearly (hate?) watching the show or film. [more inside]

FanFare MeMails on the Pony Express

Could we please give users the option to get two kinds of fanfare-related memails?
  1. An alert when someone starts a thread for an episode of a podcast/show that you're following on MyFanfare. (This is perhaps redundant, but I can't be the only one who doesn't think to wander over to MyFanfare that much…)
  2. A digest listing all of the new shows, podcasts (not individual episodes) and movies added to FanFare in the last week. I can't even think of all the media on which I'd be interesting in seeing the community's perspective, and this would be a good way to discover that other folks want to have those conversations as well.

Comics (& other serialized content) on Fanfare

On Fanfare Talk, some mefites have expressed interest in discussing comic books on Fanfare; the necessary metadata could come from comixology or comicbookdb. What do other folks think about this idea? And are there other serialized media (ideally with metadata sources) that might be good to add?

The ins and outs of posting movies to FanFare

As sort of a companion MeTa to this one about posting TV shows to FanFare I'm posting this to get some clarification and input about posting movies.

I started thinking about this earlier because I'd like to put up Enemy of the State but once I started digging around I realized there were many variations to the movie posts, including whether or not the movie had been proposed in FanFare Talk.

Another thing I noticed today in the post about Three Kings was the tag "Spiritof99" which is how I discovered there was a club about movies from 1999. And just now someone proposed starting a MST3K club, which has already been established, so I'm also wondering if we need a way to display the clubs so people can find them. [more inside]

Fanfare pony request: Ability to not specify an episode

Inspired by this post, I've got a feature request for Fanfare: In the "Episode #" drop-down, add "N/A" as an option. This signals that the post is for the entire season. I think there are a lot of shows that would benefit from single-post discussions (The Fall was previously mentioned, I think) rather than one thread per episode.

Fanfare participation and design

In some ways fanfare seems incredibly popular already: there is a constant stream of new posts, lots of TV shows covered, and a growing number of films old and new. On the other hand, discussion within each post tends to be pretty brief, with a fairly small number of comments and little back and forth dialog. I don’t know if my preferences reflect the majority but I’d love to have more meaty, deeper discussions about the movies I’m interested in. I wonder if some redesign away from the traditional mifi scrolling posts format would help make the discussions deeper and more ongoing. [more inside]

Like browsing MeFi in a shrouded theater

A lot of people have complained about FanFare's professional white background. Well, DRUNK WITH POWER after somehow kludging together a successful CSS theme for /r/MetaFilter with zero experience, I decided to try my hand at giving our new subsite a makeover, too -- the layout is fine, but that glaring white is painful to read in a darkened teevee room. Inspired by the original soothing dark blue color scheme from film/TV review aggregator Metacritic (which discarded it for an unpopular redesign years ago), I put together a complete FanFare theme (screenshot*) that adjusts not just the background and text, but stuff like visited links, link hovering, the pop-up video button and lightbox, posting page notes, live preview area, and the sidebar and Deck ad box. You can install it in Firefox (with Greasemonkey or Stylish), Chrome (with Stylish or Blank Canvas Script Handler), and jailbroken iOS (with Userscript Loader, using this URL) -- it's tested and working properly on all three. Fanfare Posting Etiquette

Recently I have seen several old movies just appear on Fanfare without any notice. I would like to participate in these discussions, but have a hard time watching them with no prior notification. I know the threads stay open for a long time, but the great majority of the comments come in the first couple days of a thread being posted. Wouldn't it be nice if we had some kind of guideline asking people to post a Fanfare talk notice a few days before posting older movies/tv shows? I am not pointing fingers at anyone, and I know this is all new functionality, but it would be nice if we had some idea that these older things would be posted prior to them landing on the main Fanfare page. Plus, I imagine it would push up the amount of discussion, which would be nice. Yes/No/Maybe? Just to be clear, with new shows/movies this isn't an issue because we can assume that people will already be watching, but with something like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, a few days to notice so I can plan a rewatch would make a big difference to me (and others?).

Goodreads vs FanFare vs ?: MeFi Reading Group

During the initial discussions surrounding FanFare back in March, some talk was had regarding adding books and other reading to the subsite at some future time. It was noted in passing that there is a two-year dormant MetaFilter Goodreads Group. I'm curious about moving forward on one of these options and would like to solicit opinions from the group. New Features: FanFare Talk, and Movies

Today we're releasing a spot for discussing plans for TV and Movie watching (stuff like the Horror Film Club, the Summer camp series, etc) by adding a discussion area to FanFare called FanFare Talk. We're also adding the ability for new posts in the Movies section to be added by members instead of just me for the last couple months of testing. Both discussion posts and movie posts will need to be approved before going up, as TV shows still are moderated. The front page of FanFare has been updated to show the titles of recent Talk posts along with a new tab in the upper right to get to all the discussion posts. [more inside]
