FanFare stats?
I was looking through the trusty Infodumpster and realized it has never had FanFare added in. While I'm fuzzy on the specifics, I am aware in a vague way that the Infodumpster isn't an "official" Mefi thing, though it comes from official MeFi data or some such. In any case, will FF ever be added to that data and/or Infodumpster?
Olympics on FanFare
We're trying out discussion threads for the Olympics on FanFare. For tonight's opening ceremony, and for the athletic events that follow. Will aim to aggregate it all over here. [more inside]
Would it make more sense to put movie trailers on FanFare?
It seems like posts for movie trailers lead to discussions that are more consistent with FanFare than Metafilter. Why not put them on FanFare instead?
Albums on Fanfare
The new Avalanches album is live-streaming, but the thread has closed. While a new post would be reasonable, I’m feeling spurred to ask: any chance of getting albums added to fanfare someday? musicbrainz and discogs would both be candidate sites for metadata.
Fanfare Pony / Feature Addition request
I know that Fanfare currently supports TV Shows, Books, Movies, and Podcasts, but is there any chance - or indeed any demand - for it to also support regular Youtube Webseries / Channels? [more inside]
Pony Request: Sports Fanfare
I'd love a sports section like fanfare. [more inside]
Pony Request: searchable FanFare ratings
Can we add the show/movie rating (PG, R, TV-Y, etc) as a searchable item for each show in FanFare? [more inside]
Adding ratings to FanFare?
Would anyone else like to see a rating system added to FanFare? [more inside]
Fanfare posts showing as deleted but aren't
There are posts in Fanfare showing as deleted, but there is no deletion reason showing, and if I click on them they are open for comments. Currently, Two-Lane Blacktop, Horror Club: Calvaire, and Shut Up And Drive show as deleted (from the top few posts.) Firfefox 44.0, Ubuntu latest version. (I have clicked for community input to see if anyone else has this issue on other browsers and OS's.)
Should Debates (and other unique events) be diverted to Fanfare?
Currently things like political debates (and similar unique events, such as Apple announcements) tend to play out in related threads on the Blue. Since that just adds to (usually) already-long threads, wouldn't it make sense to require that dedicated posts be made on the Purple? (I'm not alone in thinking so.)
Let's take clubs to the next level: Groups
Now that the book clubs are more or less up and running, why not kick them up a notch and make something like "Metafilter Groups"? An online meeting space to organize, discuss, and experience group activities (like reading books, doing online courses, playing video games, learning stuff, etc.) together with the nice folks here at MeFi. [more inside]
Announcing More Color for the Classic Theme
Last week we discussed adding more color to the classic theme and we set the wheels in motion. Today those wheels are up and running. [more inside]
Let's talk about books, baby / let's talk about lit'racy
Books! We gingerly dipped a toe into books on FanFare late last year, and this seems like as good a time as any to talk about sticking a whole foot in. [more inside]
Tiny Pony
I'm a big fan of the 'popular favorites' page, but at the moment, the comments half features a number of posts from the Star Wars Fanfare thread. At least one of which contains about as large a spoiler as I can imagine - it kind of sucked to learn how the movie ends when I was just checking to see if Greg Nog made any good good jokes this week. Should Fanfare comments maybe be ineligible for that particular page?
Fanfare request - please use the 'notable reviews' feature
Just a mild request to people that use fanfare. If you are linking to a notable review in the body of your post, or in a comment you make, please use the 'Notable Reviews' feature. [more inside]
Holiday Movie Club 2015
With Ang Lee's The Ice Storm posted, we begin the 2015 edition of the Holiday Movie Club. [more inside]
FanFare Pony: No spoilers above the cut, please
Rosebud is a [redacted]! [redacted] is [redacted]'s father! Bruce Willis was a [redacted] all along! And that's just the beginning! What spoilers for that new Netflix season that you shotgunned over the weekend will you put up above the cut next? Stay tuned! [more inside]
New FanFare TV Post Types
In FanFare we've always discussed TV shows episode by episode. We just added two new ways to discuss a series: full-season and season-independent. [more inside]
The age of Books is upon us
Brace yourselves, bibliophiles: we're rolling out Books as an additional media category on FanFare! We're starting slow to make sure we've got all the wrinkles ironed out, with a few initial clubs started by your fellow users. Come on inside for details! [more inside]
From MetaFilter With Love
(Glang. Glangalangalangalang.) Nobody does it better. Makes me feel sad for the rest. Nobody does it quite the way you do, baby baby... darlin YOU'RE THE BEST. [more inside]
First, be smart from the beginning...
I just wanted to point out that scarabic's body disposal advice took a star turn in the pilot episode of Scream Queens. [more inside]
I guess we really have Bryan Fuller to blame for this
I know most folks paid to join MetaFilter to join the conversation on the blue, and I know plenty other folks paid to join just to Ask some questions (or give some answers). This here, though, is the first I've seen of someone joining the site strictly for the discussion in FanFare. Do you know of any earlier instances or did queenofbithynia just make a new entry into our record books?
Time for some thrilling heroics
Would it be possible to auto-add new Fanfare posts for specific shows to our "Recent Activity" page? [more inside]
Strange Club
After some discussion, it looks like there's enough interest, so I'm starting up Strange Club on FanFare. It's all about the strange, sublime, arty, and unclassifiable. Join up, and vote for the first viewing here. We're also welcoming film suggestions and ideas for the club over in the discussion thread.
Holiday Movie Club 2015
After last year's success, it's time to organize the 2015 Holiday Movie Club, a series to watch heartwarming holiday films from approx. (American) Thanksgiving to New Years.[dates variable] [more inside]
MyFanFare RSS feed?
I do a lot of my MeFi browsing through an RSS reader (NewsBlur if anybody cares). One page I cannot find an RSS feed for is MyFanFare, which is a great thing that could be made better IMO if it came in the shape of an RSS feed. Is there a pony frolicking in the fields nearby MeFi HQ that could fulfill this need? Are there others out there who also feel this pony would make a good addition to the MeFi stables?
Fanfare: Previous/Next Episode Link?
I've really been enjoying Fanfare posts and the ensuing discussions with serialized shows like True Detective and Fringe. I'd like to have a link that goes back to the last episode's discussion thread. [more inside]
FanFare Watercooler
We just added a new way to find which shows, movies, and podcasts people are discussing most called FanFare Watercooler. [more inside]
Books books books?
I respect and understand that lots of new work is being/has just been done on fanfare and the whole of metafilter, so I get that additional projects might not be forthcoming right away, aaannnddd.... I'm wondering about fanfare books? [more inside]
Is this a problem with FanFare?
Perhaps this is confirmation bias, but it seems to me that many FanFare threads have descended into “this show or movie is bad, and you are a bad person for watching it.” This, despite that fact that the people making these statements are clearly (hate?) watching the show or film. [more inside]
FanFare Clubs and event calendar
We're super excited to roll out an initial version of a new feature: FanFare Clubs! This is a system for formally collecting a variety of FanFare media threads and discussions together in an organized way on the site itself, and to schedule upcoming club events on-site as well. We'd love your help testing it out. [more inside]
FanFare MeMails on the Pony Express
Could we please give users the option to get two kinds of fanfare-related memails?
- An alert when someone starts a thread for an episode of a podcast/show that you're following on MyFanfare. (This is perhaps redundant, but I can't be the only one who doesn't think to wander over to MyFanfare that much…)
- A digest listing all of the new shows, podcasts (not individual episodes) and movies added to FanFare in the last week. I can't even think of all the media on which I'd be interesting in seeing the community's perspective, and this would be a good way to discover that other folks want to have those conversations as well.
Follow Tags in My FanFare
We just added the ability to follow specific tags in My FanFare which should make it a bit easier to follow movie clubs and favorite topics. [more inside]
I would ride this pony into a sunset and a title card that says The End.
On FanFare, would it be possible to have the option to subscribe to a film club like you can subscribe to a tv show? [more inside]
Quick FanFare Updates
We made a couple changes to FanFare today. We added a show, movie, and podcast search to the front page sidebar. For movies we added links to buy or watch a particular movie at Amazon (if it's available). And we updated how movies are posted. [more inside]
Comics (& other serialized content) on Fanfare
On Fanfare Talk, some mefites have expressed interest in discussing comic books on Fanfare; the necessary metadata could come from comixology or comicbookdb. What do other folks think about this idea? And are there other serialized media (ideally with metadata sources) that might be good to add?
Discoverability of My Fanfare
I was pumped at the not so recent announcement that there would be a "my Fanfare" way to follow discussions on Fanfare, but I totally failed to find it and only just now did. I suspect this is a usability problem that could be fixed. [more inside]
Can we talk about the dumb show I like?
I am interested in writing about a show on FanFare. Now what? [more inside]
Announcing My FanFare
We just added My FanFare: a way to tell FanFare which shows, movies, or podcasts are your favorites and then limit what you see to posts about those favorites. [more inside]
Sample new shows on the FanFare Podcast Feed
After recently adding podcasts to FanFare, we decided to add a meta-feed of all currently discussed podcast episodes into one unified feed. [more inside]
New for FanFare: Podcasts
Today we're adding podcasts to the mix at FanFare, as a way to discuss shows, and kicking it off with Serial, This American Life, Welcome to Nightvale, as well as others (based on your suggestions). [more inside]
FanFare pony request: alternative episode descriptors
Could we have an option for a text entry field for the episode number on a TV show? Sometimes there are specials - like Dr Who's famous Christmas Specials, for example; or in anime series there will sometimes be a separate OVA that happens outside of the normal story arc. [more inside]
FanFare request: Make tagging a little easier
For TV episode posts in FanFare threads, can we have an option of importing tags from the previous episode's post? Or maybe have tags for the show itself that can be applied to each episode? [more inside]
The ins and outs of posting movies to FanFare
As sort of a companion MeTa to this one about posting TV shows to FanFare I'm posting this to get some clarification and input about posting movies.
I started thinking about this earlier because I'd like to put up Enemy of the State but once I started digging around I realized there were many variations to the movie posts, including whether or not the movie had been proposed in FanFare Talk.
Another thing I noticed today in the post about Three Kings was the tag "Spiritof99" which is how I discovered there was a club about movies from 1999. And just now someone proposed starting a MST3K club, which has already been established, so I'm also wondering if we need a way to display the clubs so people can find them. [more inside]

FanFare, no fresh Good Wife - up to me?
Are there show mods or a cabal or how does it work? [more inside]
Custome search doesn't search fanfare?
Has anyone else run into a problem pulling up fanfare threads through site search or am I an idiot? [more inside]
Fanfare pony request: Ability to not specify an episode
Inspired by this post, I've got a feature request for Fanfare: In the "Episode #" drop-down, add "N/A" as an option. This signals that the post is for the entire season. I think there are a lot of shows that would benefit from single-post discussions (The Fall was previously mentioned, I think) rather than one thread per episode.
Fanfare participation and design
In some ways fanfare seems incredibly popular already: there is a constant stream of new posts, lots of TV shows covered, and a growing number of films old and new. On the other hand, discussion within each post tends to be pretty brief, with a fairly small number of comments and little back and forth dialog. I don’t know if my preferences reflect the majority but I’d love to have more meaty, deeper discussions about the movies I’m interested in. I wonder if some redesign away from the traditional mifi scrolling posts format would help make the discussions deeper and more ongoing. [more inside]
Let's fill the stable: My Fanfare
I would like to (without using RSS, and without making bookmarks) be able to go to one page on Fanfare and see all of the threads posted about only the series that I care about. [more inside]
Book Group on Fanfare?
Books on Fanfare has been discussed, but in a theoretical way. The thread on The Stand makes me want to re-read it, and makes me want to be able to discuss it with MeFites. May I shoehorn it into Fanfare? [more inside]
