What Should We Learn from Reddit?
It seems obvious from site activity over the beginning of the week that much of the reduction in participation here is due to attrition to reddit. I am hoping to have a friendly thread about what people LIKE about reddit and what it gets right that MetaFilter could learn from. We’ve had plenty of threads about what people don’t like about Reddit, and I ask that people respectfully understand that’s not the purpose of this thread. Lots of mefites are back for the first time in a long time, and it’s wonderful! What can we tweak so that we become Internet Home again? The increased activity on the front page has been invigorating.
Comment about Bernie Sanders and POC
Sometime around the last presidential election, someone linked to a post made by a POC explaining why they thought that POC were less likely to support Sanders than they were to support Clinton. The gist of it was that POC were more likely to support the political and economic conditions already in place because those systems were relatively predictable, and unpredictable systems were more likely to redound to the detriment of POC. I'm pretty sure the post was on Reddit, but I'm not positive. I also don't think this was in a megathread because I don't think the megathreads even existed yet, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me out?
Subreddit recommendations
On a tangent from the MeFi post about Reddit, and specifically comments to the effect that, once you avoid the obvious trashfires and big mainstream forums, there are some quality subreddits: what are some subreddits that MeFites have found particularly worth following/getting involved in, especially ones that one might not stumble across on a casual visit to the site?
spinoff sites
What are the unoffical spinoff sites? There's MetaChat - "an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter." MonkeyFilter, GameFilter - "A good post to Gamefilter is a link or set of links to something that is related to gaming, gamers, or gaming culture." and MeFightClub - " started way back in ye olde 2007 as an offshoot community of Metafilter (a site where members are collectively known as 'Mefites', and that's how we get to 'Mefight' Club), dedicated to having a safe, groovy place to hang out together and play and talk about the games we love."
Are there others?

Proper deletion or "Metafilter VS Reddit" bias?
This post was deleted for the following reason: Sorry, framing this as side-taking in some kind of notional Mefi vs reddit thing isn't great, the imperative at the end isn't really Mefi form, and "here are just a bunch of random good things from reddit" is too loose a net
I guess I'm not seeing the editorializing. Bad call in my opinion: I thought that this post was precisely "Best of the web". What does the community think?

instantly recognisable classic askme answer pirated on reddit
Looks like reddit wasn't smart from the very beginning - this famous AskMe reply was copied on reddit WTF.

Given this FPP about reddit's racism, and with the notion presented in that thread here, I'd like to float the idea of a blanket ban on links to reddit on the Blue. [more inside]
Web 1.0 dinosaur Metafilter modernizes, slowly
MetaFilter calls to mind a bygone Internet age... Think of it as reddit for grownups.
How would you clone Metafilter? (kinda)
If you were naive, hubristic optimistic enough to want to set up a metafilter like site, but with a specific focus, how would you go about doing that?
I don't mean Mefi as a whole with the wonderful subsites, just the Metafilter.com part?
If there off the shelf free (or cheap) software that could do the job, whilst also be scalable or is it a question of "Stable, Secure, Cheap pick two" ? [more inside]
Mathowie should do an AMA
MetaFilter is a long-running site with plenty of long-time members, but it's always stayed fresh through a slow and steady influx of new users to add new perspectives and replace those who've left. With the recent slump in Google traffic, we should consider ways to more actively promote the site elsewhere, in order to maintain this healthy growth and make sure the site and its values do not become complete unknowns to newer generations of web users. In that spirit, I've acquired the subreddit /r/MetaFilter and given it a fabulous CSS makeover with loads of informative links on MeFi history and culture. [more inside]
I originally thought this was a site about Meat.

Reddit AMA, FPP
So I know the feelings about Reddit here. But there are some truly stunning AMAs that I think would make great FPPs, and a good bunch have. I thought to post this one today, but jeffburdges did a far better job than I ever would so I'm glad I didn't. [more inside]

MetaFilter vs. Reddit 3 in 3-D
It's that time once again--the London Mefite contingent is going to do battle tonight with Reddit in an epic pub quiz. It's a smaller crowd this time, with only nine of us confirmed, but it's still enough to do two teams.
Come by and cheer us on, or do so here. As usual, one of us will be posting updates at the halfway mark and afterward.
Regrets, I've had a few
Looking for a comment thread that I believe may have originated at Reddit and was linked here: stories from men talking about how they (often painfully) missed clues from women who were interested in them, and the agony and regret when they realized what was actually happening at a later date. Thanks!
The Mefi guide to Reddit
Some mefite has a great guide to reddit on their user profile, that talks about getting rid of the default subreddits and a bunch of other tips that are good for a new reddit user. In fact I want to point a new reddit user to them, but I can't find a link to that user! Does anyone recall who it was?

Reddit trivia rematch
Good morning westerners! In just over four hours, our Trivial Special Forces will reassemble in central London to do battle with our arch-nemeses, Reddit, in a re-match after we mopped the floor with them last time. Current IRL thread here. Any MeFites in London are encouraged to come along and participate and/or cheer us on. Live updates in this thread will follow I'm sure, though we will go dark during the quiz. Tally-ho! [more inside]
Blackout
Reddit will be blacked out for 12 hours on January 18th in protest against SOPA. Will Metafilter be doing similar?
We Could've Hit the Bigtimes
A fairly popular thread on the Blue of a month or so ago has been picked up by Warner Brothers. No credit to us -- that goes, rightfully, to the original Reddit thread, but fun to see all the same.

Redditfilter
I'm seeing Reddit stuff being posted as FPPs on a daily basis. Nothing wrong with Reddit, it's awesome, but I don't get why Reddit is never given any credit. I think giving credit is one of those things that makes Metafilter a nice place and it makes it possible to follow the related Reddit discussion. [more inside]
Ow! You broke MettaFiltter!
I like reddit, and I have an account it, but do single link reddit FPP belong on the blue? [more inside]
Just curious about how these corners of the internet intersect
render unto reddit
reddit is a great site and a great community - and it provides a ton of FPP content to metafilter - which is also a great site with a great community. When we create an fpp sourced from reddit can we acknowledge the source as in [via]?
Sure, if the post was created independently of reddit, then no issue, but if you did grab the slyt from reddit then it would be nice if you attributed accordingly.
blue_beetle's comment on reddit
blue_beetle's insightful comment on how the Internet funds itself has prompted a front-page reddit post.
We refuse, you effuse
I don't know if this is to be celebrated or bemoaned, but a thread closed for self-promotion on Metafilter is now the second most popular link on reddit. [more inside]
