An apology

I made several mistakes in the University of Missouri thread. I apologize. [more inside]

AskMe: Apologies before a question

When do you apologize before posting an AskMe? Most recently in this post about a Latin phrase, which the OP thought might be "obnoxious", I felt it was fine. This isn't about posting guidelines (which I think I understand by now...) but about the community's perception of what kinds of questions are, well, obnoxious. [more inside]

A Matter of Principle

In yesterday's thread, A Matter of Principal, I made an assumption that proved to be incorrect. delmoi kindly contacted me privately and sent me this link explaining what really happened and suggested I apologize. [more inside]

Just post the links, please.

A personal request: If you think the formatting or content of your post needs defending (newsfilter and single-link youtube posts seem to be the prime offenders here), make your justifications in the first reply to the thread instead of pointing it out in the FPP itself.

Please accept my apology

Back in January, I posted a pretty offensive thread. I'm not sure if this is appropriate for MetaTalk, but I would like to apologize for it. I was in a bad place at the time, and hope that anyone who was offended will forgive me for this indiscretion.

Slightly spammy answer on AskMe.

In this AskMe, I am in agreement with the post that follows mine, as well as of course my own, though I didn't word it as bluntly as Rhomboid did, as I was sort of "typing as thinking". That said, the first response seems vaguely spammy. Full disclosure: I provide web hosting myself, and I still think the response is borderline inappropriate.

I'd like to make amends

Feature request: apologies for intemperate things said in the heat of the moment or drunkenness... or both. I wrote some shit to b_thinky last night that I regret. No email address was listed in his (or her) profile, otherwise I would have reached out that way. But I made a vow to robocop is bleeding a while back about just this kind of thing, and broke my promise, and I'd like to make amends.

It seemed like a snark-in-good-fun

It sounds as though this post was meant as a frivolous laugh at all parties involved, which is why the personal swipes sound so out of place. I partially note it because I was about to make a similar FPP, but perhaps should be glad I didn't....

Stop apologizing for one-link posts

Stop apologizing for one-link posts. Doing a half-assed Google search to make your post look more meaty will make it worse and waste our time.

Mefi-a culpa

Calling myself out. Kind of unusual, I know. But I looked back at some of my recent comments and I realized that I've been a butthead and a troll lately. If anyone wants to take exception with my bad behavior, feel free to do so here. And in the effort to make things better- has anyone else fallen into such a rut? Any ideas about how to get out?

Can all of y'all stop apologizing?

Can all of y'all stop apologizing in the first post of a thread, please?

People shouldn't have to feel as if their contribution is any less because of subject matter than any other post. It's extremely annoying to read an interesting fpp and then have a sniveling self-deprecating post within. Grab some balls people!

Burying the hatchet.

This has gone on long enough. I'm going to take a radical step and drag myself into MetaTalk. Once upon a time skallas was a guy, whom while I disagreed with him often, I respected his intelligence and convictions. But somewhere things got weird and no we're at eachother's throats all the time. It's making this unpleasant for me, probably for him and probably for everybody reading too. So, it's gotta stop.

I could have taken it to e-mail, but I'm doing it publicly for a couple of reasons. One, I think if the both of us (two well known public fueders) can cool out and agree to disagree like gentlemen, we can set an example for the rest of the site. And also, because someone once said that I owed skallas an apology as public as the insult I made, so here it is.

So, skallas, I'm willing to bury the hatchet if you are. You with me?

ethically questionable mapping link; i am sorry

I recently posted a link, and in it I happened to slip a 1x1 px graphic that is used by this site to create a map of internet users. Seemed harmless enough, but in retrospect I regret having done it. It was an action of questionable ethics, and I should have avoided it. Please nix my post and accept my apologies.

Apology for someone using anothers account

When someone else uses your MeFi account to post a typo-riddled, incoherent, inflammatory comment, maybe the best way to repair the damage to one's reputation is to apologize upfront.

Apologies for posting the double, but I am going to do it anyway.

Sorry if this is a double post but the search timed out -- why do some members applogise in their front page comment for possible double posting because the search timed out, especially before they've actually got to the point of the actual post in the first place? (more)

oops; i italicized the whole front page

Just wanted to apologize publically for not closing the italics in my recent posting + thus, apparently, italicizing the whole page (I assume Matt will step in swiftly + correct this.)

Apologies to all annoyed and even offended by certain posts of mine which, apparently, have been too ripe for certain people to take into the realm of bad taste. The filter on that kind of thing has been turned up.

Didn't mean to bring out the racism in everyone...

I want to apologize for any part I had in prompting the explicitly racist comments some have posted in this thread and others, if there were any. I'm beginning to wonder whether I should continue advancing my perspective in light of reactions like this. I don't want to encourage those kinds of posts.
