Double-post etiquette?
I'm kind of confused as to why this post is still up. It's been flagged as a double since about half an hour after it first went up - yesterday's post is a link to the official TED Talk YouTube channel version of a talk that was posted to the blue, linked to the ted.com version, when it was first published in 2012. Is there a "we haven't seen this in a while, so it's OK" rule about double posts that I missed somewhere?
Automatic double post checking with Javascript?
Would it be possible to add a feature to the new post form that checks for URLs while the user is writing the post, and instantly notifies the user that the post is potentially a double without having to hit Preview? It can be a bummer when you've written a long FPP and then discover it's a double on preview. Site search/domain-specific Google search is kind of unreliable for this in my experience. Or, could we have access to the URL-checking system with a user input field somewhere else in the site?
Could we please reconsider the policy on "doubles"?
Could we please, as a community, revisit the notion that just because something is a "double" it should be deleted? [more inside]
Eurovision posts
I had a huge Eurovision post written and ready to post that I was saving for this evening. Then this was posted. I do feel a bit frustrated by this, but it's a good post, just not the post I wanted to make. Details inside. [more inside]
Doubles of deleted doubles are also doubles
Hey, I just posted something that was deleted because it was a double. I didn't know it was a double because the original post that it doubled had a different link and keywords (I even searched, nothing came up, wish I'd thought to search for just "iron"). However, it was an exact copy of another double that did match the URL and keywords exactly. So, it seems to me, that when searching past posts in the "New Post" form, it should search through deleted posts as well, to avoid these "doubles of doubles" type situations. [more inside]
Not Really A Double, But Not Original Either
Perhaps we should limit posts about the Cordoba House to the still open thread from 4 days ago
Is a second post about the Cordoba House issue (first, latter) within 4 days really necessary? [more inside]
Double your posting; double your fun
What's the standard for avoiding double-posting? About a week ago I made an FPP on the Gulf oil spill. It was not top news at the time and not many people outside the area knew about it. My post ground to about 90+ comments and stalled. This morning, another FPP came up about the same spill. [more inside]
Double Didn't Die
When an FPP gets flagged as a double (or, say, a double double), how come it sometimes isn't deleted? [more inside]
But how are there so many double posts even WITH this feature?
This is a thank-you note to whoever coded the FPP submission system. [more inside]
Not every aspect of the tragedy in Haiti needs a FPP
In six days, there have been four FPPs about Haiti. Can I get a clarification as to what constitutes a double post? [more inside]
Not a deletion whine, just thoughts on previously-posted checking
This is NOT a complaint about deletion (hence, no link back to the deleted post)... [more inside]
Posting pony petition
So I posted a double of the awesome wedding dance, and now I have a pony request that might be useful. [more inside]

"Second Editions"
I would like to know what people's thoughts are on the idea of allowing Metafilter posters to make a "second edition" of a post after a certain amount of time has passed (a week?, a year?). [more inside]
GAME OVER
This post was deleted for the following reason: I freakin' hate it when I go to delete a double and some has already snagged like the perfect deletion reason. It's like, hey, thanks, DAD. -- cortex (more inside) [more inside]
Deletion Stats?
I'm an avid reader of Puke & Cry's Deleted Thread blog, and it got me wondering: Do any of the admins have stats on the most posts deleted in one day? Or, the most doubles (i.e. the most posts on one topic that were deleted - I'm guessing it must be an obituary post, maybe James Brown)? Or, the longest time span without a deletion? Etc.
On the internet everyone knows you are a wedge of spite
Yes it is a double, but it is also good example of how one or two cranky farts can totally change the tone of a thread. [more inside]
quis custodiet custodes
Unnecessary-ness
What happened to the thread of photos off the p2p networks? Did that link get removed for any particular reason? Was it to make room for the Zelda/Golden Ratio thread? Hmm. I am kind of disappointed.
Double post on AskMeFi, in a row?
21 months away...
So, if this is election minutiae, is this? And can we assume that a ElectionFilter FPP formulated like this is OK?
Is this a double post?
Would this be considered a double post? [details inside]

Lenticulations post appears on Metafilter as well as Projects
Okay, so e.g.,this project also appears on the main site. But on the projects page there's still a [post this to mefi] link.
It would be really great if the site could recognize when a post is made with the same URL as a projects project, and associate the two, so that a) the main post is linked to from the projects page, and b) [post this to mefi] does not appear anymore. The main site post could be marked up too ("by our own whoozitswhat").

Double post
Same link? No. Double post? Yes.
Reuse and doublepost
As carter points out, this post appears to be a link to a site which, ahem, repurposes this photographer's images in order to sell porn ads.
Admins, might it be appropriate to edit the post to link to the proper site rather than reward what appears to be an unauthorized misuse of somone else's material?

Link tweaking: is a redux to supplant dead links justified, or should the links just be tweaked?
previously on mefl here, but the content is old and that link dead so I thought it was worth another post.
As meehawl points out, we've discussed Aphex Twin infinitely. If an old link breaks, is it best to send a message to jessahowie to update it, rather than dredging it back up on the front page?

Double-posted, like, on purpose.
this is like an octuple-post.

Why isn't this a double post since it directly references the previous instance?
Just wonderin'... Why isn't this a double post since it directly references the previous instance?
search for URLs for FPPs
In response to the inordinate number of doubles recently (e.g.) which begin:
MeFite A: Look! This is my link!
MeFite B: This is nice
MeFite A: sorry, double, delete

Why was my thread deleted?
Downright rude.
Why was my thread on 03/12/05 on George Best's funeral deleted? If you're deleting threads then explain to the poster. I know Meta is primarily US-based but you have no idea who George Best represented. I'm really livid.

Comment preservation from doubleposted threads?
I was cool having my thread deleted, because it was a double...but it seemed like more people had commented in that one - and now those comments are lost. Can they be moved?
Better still, would it not be wiser to have read in the post that people wanted to keep open, and followed those wishes?

Is there an acceptable time lag for double posts?
So is there any kind of time factor dispensation for double posts?
I was emailed a link today that made me piss myself laughing, which I really feel the need for these days. I came here to post it but found it was already on the front page four years ago.

I double posted, please delete
Arrgghhhh. I just made a great FPP without noticing that adamvasco beat me to it. Help!?
I double post and get shit. A triple post gets a pass?
Why is it that when I double posted an item on The World in January everyone pissed in my cornflakes, repeatedly, but with this triple post fenriq gets a pass?
Is it OK to post a yearly best/worst of every year?
Just a general question, not a call out per se.
Are annual events ok to post to each time they occur?
Question prompted by the latest 50 loathsome New Yorkers thread. I flagged and mentioned it in the thread as being a double from last year, then Arch Stanton mentioned it was run here in 2003 as well.
Does this mean I can repost Geek Prom, because, you know, its next year already. (don't worry it will not be a FPP, just making a point)

Self-link? Or double post? Or a bit of both?
Polling the membership... is not a good post
Polling the membership to see what they think about a big-media story is not a good post, especially when there are no good links offered in the post, and the subject matter is hot-button, right-to-life kind of stuff. Besides: double-post.
Known triple post = triple good?
Is a triple post okay if you knew it was one? (The person who posted this must have known, since the search included in the post shows it.) Is it okay if there are a few more links included this time, and the text is on a different site now? Finally, is it okay if the goal is simply to elicit more discussion on the topic, as it seems to be here?
Acceptable to repost comments as FPPs?
Two things:
1) When is turning a comment into a FPP okay? The poster acknowledges it as such in the FPP itself and the old thread is still open for new comments. Shouldn't the new links be added to the old thread?
2) Also, pepsi blue.

Double post.
Self appointed sanctimonious MeFi gods/censors
I am struck by the amount of clutter which is created by apparently self appointed sanctimonious MeFi gods/censors. Comments on etiquette, self promotion etc are constructive, however what on earth (other than self promotion) is achieved by pointing out that you have seen something before or that it doesn't interest you. So what? I would have no interest whatsoever in a post linking to a 1973 article about bestiality amongst jazz lovers but that is just me and I am not small minded enough to pontificate against those who want to follow this particular hobby. The one thing I can conceive of that would be more tedious than reading the article would be wading through "old link - I've seen it before" or "this is boring". This is hypocrisy gone mad.
