How Did This Happen?
so I was perusing a thread, and noticed what looks like a formatting error, in this comment -screenshot. [more inside]
Minor display error with IE 6 & 7
The stripy background at the top of the page is broken with IE.
But what isn't, amirite? [more inside]
Crazy like a fox
FYI: it took a while but last month, firefox finally surpassed IE as the most popular browser here (that's data for the month of November).

Hyperlinked text weirdness
In the thread about setting suns and British empires, I made a comment to the effect of, WTF? I just didn’t understand what the discussion was about. After logging onto another computer, I finally see why. I wasn’t seeing the punch line link. In both Firefox and IE, I don’t see the hyperlinked text. This is not a problem in any other FFP. Weird; what gives?
Long-winded explanations for deletion look bad....
The long-winded explanations for deletion in these three threads look bad in Firefox 1.0 and the latest MSIE.
The HTML toolbox doesn't work! How can I post a link?
I can't post links within a thread on any of the Meta sites. I've seen how the text tools box appears under the comments box when using a PC at work. I'm using Explorer on a Mac running OS 8.6. Any ideas on how I can rectify this?
Why does the "white" template load slowly using IE on Mac OS9 or X?
The white (ie the blue with the white option set) takes an age to display for me using IE on Mac OS 9 or X; far slower than it used to be. The status bar usually reads something about loading javascript/comments.js and activespell.js (IIRC) while I'm waiting.
Has something changed? Grey and green are fine.

Did font sizes in the blue change?
Is it just me, or is The Blue displaying in a teeny-tiny font for everyone? The Gray and the Green haven't changed, and neither has any other site that I vist. I first noticed this yesterday (May 12).
If it's everyone, I like the larger font much better. If it's me, anyone have any idea how I can fix it?

Request to update MetaTalk posting page for IE.
Dear Matt: given that most people here use IE, when will you modernize the MetaTalk posting page? You've known for ages that anyone hitting the "Back" button to edit their post will lose everything because of IE browser settings.
When will it be as easy as the MetaFilter one? How is someone who knows no HTML supposed to post to MetaTalk with the appropriate links, bold and italic emphases and whatever?

navigating 'back' or 'forward', directed to the 'Third Birthday' page
Using IE5.0, navigating 'back' or 'forward' to homepage results in being directed to the 'Third Birthday' page. Crazy frustrating. Am I the only one?
Problem opening MeTa links in a new window in IE6.
IE6, running on Win98SE. I have "open links in a new window" selected in my profile customization, but they open in the same window anyway.
Browser problems
OK, assuming I'm not being banned by the Management, I can no longer use Mefi in Opera or IE 5.0. When logged in, all I see is a sea of blue or a sea of brown (Metatalk), on what appears to be a huge Web page. as I scroll down, single words appear very VERY far apart. Is this a cruel joke?
thisislondon crashes IE for me. you?
Clicking on this link: http://www.thisislondon.com/dynamic/news/story.html?in_review_id=489715&in_review_text_id=447099shuts down my browser (IE5)...sad part of it was that it happened about five times before I figured out what was going on. Since folks are commenting, I presume it's not happening to everyone? Just tried it three more times, same thing. You know, I saw a white van with some strange antennas on it driving around here earlier...
Missing "Post" Button
The 'Post' button for comments seems to have stopped working for me in Mac IE 5.1. The button is there, but it doesn't do anything.
Chronological view issues
I'm using IE5 on a Win 98 machine, and when I finish reading a thread and hit backspace to return to the front page, I'm plopped back in time to November 17, rather than the top of the thread (I view chronologically). I deleted all my Temporary Internet files, which I thought would fix it, but it's still happening. Ideas?
Internet Explorer Registry Entries
How exactly does the IE 6.0 registry entries work, once applied?
MeFi and MeTa should be standards-compliant.
How about a standards-compliant version of MetaFilter or MetaTalk?
Disclaimers: (1) ignominious self-link; (ii) tested in Internet Explorer 5.1 and Netscape 6, should work in all CSS-compliant browsers; (c) guaranteed to look hideous in Netscape 4 et al; (IV) XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS validated by W3C.

Bug: IE 5.0 for Mac, text formatting commands.
I am using IE 5.0 for Mac. The text formatting commands do not appear at the bottom of the main text box. Any ideas?
Problem with passwords while posting a comment.
Password problems: When I hopped over to MeFi today, I found I wasn't automatically logged in any more. I don't know if that's a MeFi problem itself, as I've had all sorts of weirdness with IE lately on my end. I logged in, no problem. But then when I tried to post a response in a MetaTalk thread, my password wasn't automatically filled in like it usually is. I didn't even notice until I hit "post," at which time I got a yummy ColdFusion error.
Keystrokes for formatting goodness
I just added helpful keystrokes, ala Blogger, to the text areas in MetaFilter proper (coming soon here). You can now bold, italicize, and build links (my favorite) with a simple keystroke.
Unfortunately, it's IE 4+\Windows only, but if any enterprising javascripters can figure out a way to add html tags to textareas in Netscape, I'll be happy to implement it too.

Cannot edit in IE 5.5
I recently switched to IE 5.5, and I've found that when I "go back to fix a problem" in a followup post, there's nothing there to edit. So I'm stuck with what I wrote the first time.
Oddly enough, I *can* go back to fix a problem on an original post. Is there a difference in how you're doing that on original posts and on followups?

Page display on IE 5 for Mac (June 2000)
The floating 'other blogs' palette does not work well at all in MSIE 5.0/Mac. When the home page first loads, it shows up on the left side of the page, obliterating much of the text of the links. Only when the page is finished loading does it move to its proper place on the right side.
Then, when paging up and down, the palette only draws down to about halfway through the "kottke" link. Yuck.
