confirming - occasional chatty posts on the Blue?
I seem to recall that chatty posts on the Blue were discouraged, but that that's changed (hence the rise of the weekly-ish Free Thread). Can we confirm policy and maybe get it in the FAQ? [more inside]
Chatty asks are fun. Why not make it permanent?
I see there's a real-time chat, why not one in the style of the site? A sort of miscellaneous, Not Otherwise Specified subsite. I'm imagining basically chatfilter questions & maybe funny or interesting things not chewy enough for a FPP. (This is not really A Suggestion, more a what if & why/why not curiosity.) [more inside]
Hey, let's chat
AKA we’re temporarily removing the chatfilter restrictions on Ask Metafilter IF you make a donation to the site, as part of the 2023 MetaFilter Fundraiser! [more inside]

Your media of 2022
What did you play this year? What did you watch? What did you read? None of it has to be the greatest ever, or even anything that came out in 2022, I'd just like to hear about what you spent time with and what it meant to you.
Still wondering after all these years
What AskMe of yours are you still curious about? What was never resolved? [more inside]
The End of 2021/Beginning of 2022
What's something old you're leaving behind, and something new you're taking with you? General chat thread for ruminating on the year past and the year to come.
Your video games of 2021
We don't have games on Fanfare, so let's chat about them here! They don't have to be your greatest, or anything that came out this year, I'd just like to hear about what you played and what it meant to you.
Take a break.

How about that weather?
Is it hot or cold in your neck of the woods? Dealing with a blistering heat-wave or frosty winter morning? Rainy. Stormy. Sunny. Cloudy. Cold. Dry. Wet. Windy. Foggy. Whatever it is, let's talk weather. Feel free to share photos. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Stay safe.
MetaMedia
Life can be difficult, time are tough; it is very easy to feel overwhelmed. That being said, I'm curious about what you are reading, watching, listening, and playing to get through these turbulent times. I'm also interested in knowing if your consumption of media has changed over the last couple of months. Are you seeking out things that are light and easy to consume? Or maybe you seek comfort in something heavier and darker. Or maybe you've withdrawn from screens altogether and are finding pleasure in a more analog and tactile space. Share with the community if you feel up to it. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Cheers.
Your Most Recent Wikipedia Search
It's close to the end of the week. Let's play a fun game. What was the last thing you searched for on Wikipedia? Your most recent Wiki. Feel free to share links to relevant Wiki below. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Cheers.
MetaDragons 🐉
I love dragons. They're one of my favorite creatures. There are many different types of dragons. Some mythical, some still living today. From literature, film & television, animation, & video-games, table-top games. There are many different breeds: chromatic or metalic? lightweight or heavyweight? Would you ride on their backs? Maybe you'd learn some magic. There have been some amazing posts on the blue and green related to dragons that are worth checking out. The conversation is open to any and all dragon-related subjects. Let's discuss dragons. RROOAARRR!!!!
How are you doing? Are you ok?

If you feel up to it, please take a photo of something nice (anything that makes you feel good) and share it with all of us. It can be something on your desk. I just want to look at something pleasant and nice. Stay safe and remember to be kind to yourself and to others.

sole artifact left to explain humanity
Regarding the recent one-man Godzilla film that was posted over on the blue, MCMikeNamara commented:
If this was the sole artifact left to explain humanity, it would be impossible to truly explain without the cultural context, but I honestly don't care and would happily nominate it to be the sole artifact to explain humanity.<>>Has me thinking what the rest of the community would choose, so let's open it up to debate. What would you choose as the sole artifact left to explain humanity? I'm thinking that MCMikeNamara is on the right track with this one-man Godzilla film. Stay safe everyone.
“I'll be there with Bells on! Ho ho!”
I'm playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game was just released and it's available on the Nintendo Switch. It seems like everyone is playing these days. Let's talk about our islands/towns. What fruit did you end up getting? There are five possibilities (not counting coconuts): apples, cherries, peaches, pears, and oranges. If you're up for it, let's share our Nintendo Switch Friend codes so we can visit each other's islands/towns. This is a super chill game and it makes me happy. If you have the opportunity, consider picking it up. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Happy crafting, farming, shopping, & exploring friendos.

Just Happy Things
The week is just starting and I'm already feeling a bit overwhelmed. Let's talk about something unrelated to politics. Share something happy with the community, anything at all. Maybe you had the opportunity to pet/play with a puppy. Or it could be the tasty grilled-cheese sandwich you ate for lunch. Whatever it is, share a bit of your happy with the rest of the community. As always, be kind to yourself and to others.

🧄 MetaGarlic
We're close to the end of the week, let's talk about something other than politics. Let's talk about garlic.
“Garlic is divine. Few food items can taste so many distinct ways, handled correctly. Misuse of garlic is a crime...Please, treat your garlic with respect...Avoid at all costs that vile spew you see rotting in oil in screwtop jars. Too lazy to peel fresh? You don't deserve to eat garlic.” ― Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary UnderbellyLove it? Hate it? Any garlic-related stories or adventures? Do you grow it at home yourself? Do you have any special recipes that are garlic-specific? Feel free to share them here with us. Is there a particular varietal that you seek out? Did you know that Les Blank made a documentary all about garlic - 'Garlic Is As Good As Ten Mothers (1980)'. Here is the trailer. Let's talk about all things related to garlic. Remember to be kind to yourself and others. Cheers.

MetaAnniversary: FizzRecordings? nightFizz?
On this exact date, one year ago, I messaged Nightrecordings via MeMail to discuss this post about Serena Williams at the US Open. One thing led to another and...we're now married. I wouldn't have the love of my life without this community. I want to thank everyone here who made that possible. Apologies for the selfishness of this MetaTalk. I love you Nightrecordings! ❤️

End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. Let's talk about fireworks. Here in N. America we've recently celebrated Canada Day (July 1) and Independence Day (July 4). Both of these holidays are traditionally celebrated with the setting off of fireworks. MetaUncontrollableGiggles
We're nearly at the end of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. I was driving home from work yesterday and I witnessed a man walking a tiny Chihuahua on a leash, he was smoking a cigarette while also drinking from a beer can & was running a little bit late at crossing the cross-walk and did this kind of "I'm sorry." dance in front of me and the way he waved his hand and smiled caused me to burst into an uncontrollable fit of laughter, pure giggles. I'd love to hear stories of a similar nature, some situation that caused you to burst into pure random laughter/joy because you witnessed it or were a part of it. As always, be kind to yourself and others. Cheers.

Happy Wednesday, it's the middle of the week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. It's currently raining here and I want to hear your thoughts on rain/thunderstorms. Just Share Something Good
It's been a difficult week. Let's talk about something that isn't related to the news or a source of the never ending stream of nightmare fuel we encounter on the rest of the web. Just share something good with the MetaFilter community. We all could do with a story that brings a smile, or a laugh. Maybe share a photo of a cute pet or baby, or tell us about that slice of pie you enjoyed, whatever it is, just share something good. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. We're all on this rock together.
