Why the upsurge in Mefi meetups?

Anybody else noticed a recent upsurge in the number of Mefi meetups? What could be the reason for the newfound urge of more members of the community to meet in RL?

Mefi London meetup disappeared from this page within 24 hours, due to a load of navel-gazing posts to MeTalk. Here's a reminder: P_G wants it to be Vaguely Competent this time, OK?
