Open Gaming Thread: What are you playing right now?
Let's talk video-games, board-games, mobile games, mind-games, etc. What are you playing right now? :-)
MeFightClub: Per Rotato Ad Astra
15 years ago today, MefightClub was born when herrdoktor posted about hosting a private Metafilter Team Fortress 2 server. Not that much later, stavrosthewonderchicken put up some forums and started the ball rolling on providing a home for the best little gaming community ever. [more inside]
Anybody dug into the Racial Justice & Inequality Bundle?
It’s been more than a month since simmering octagon posted about itch.io’s Bundle for Racial Justice and Inequality. It seemed like a number of folks were considering picking up the bundle. I’m curious if anyone has had a chance to dig in and find some interesting gems.
MetaMedia
Life can be difficult, time are tough; it is very easy to feel overwhelmed. That being said, I'm curious about what you are reading, watching, listening, and playing to get through these turbulent times. I'm also interested in knowing if your consumption of media has changed over the last couple of months. Are you seeking out things that are light and easy to consume? Or maybe you seek comfort in something heavier and darker. Or maybe you've withdrawn from screens altogether and are finding pleasure in a more analog and tactile space. Share with the community if you feel up to it. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Cheers.
MetaMMO: Leeeeeeeeeeeeeroy!!!!!
Many mefites play MMO/MMORPGs and I thought it might be nice to create a space to share our contacts with one another so we can go on some raids together. Whether it's World of Warcraft (WoW), Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), Black Desert Online (BDO), Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV), Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2), Eve Online (EO), Star Wars The Old Republic (SWTOR), Guild Wars 2 (GW2), Runescape, Star Trek Online (STO), whatever MMO you play, let us share our gamer tags/contacts/character names and join in a virtual space of our choosing to get our game on.
“I'll be there with Bells on! Ho ho!”
I'm playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game was just released and it's available on the Nintendo Switch. It seems like everyone is playing these days. Let's talk about our islands/towns. What fruit did you end up getting? There are five possibilities (not counting coconuts): apples, cherries, peaches, pears, and oranges. If you're up for it, let's share our Nintendo Switch Friend codes so we can visit each other's islands/towns. This is a super chill game and it makes me happy. If you have the opportunity, consider picking it up. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Happy crafting, farming, shopping, & exploring friendos.
Metatalktail Hour: Phone Games
Do you cope with your anxiety by playing phone games? I totally cope with my anxiety by playing phone games. Tell me your favorite phone games, ideally for Android (my system) but I'm down with iPhone and I'm also down with desktop/console games! [more inside]
Platform/system requirements in video game posts
Many thanks to everyone who makes MetaFilter posts about cool new video games! And one request: When possible, could these posts please include information about which platforms the game runs on? [more inside]
Fanfare Games
I want to gush about Animal Crossing: New Horizons but I'm not sure a link to the direct would be a good post. Any news about adding Video Games to Fanfare?
🏝️ MetaDesertIslandPicks 📺
We're close to the end of the week, let's talk about something other than politics. Let's talk about your desert island picks. Choose one film, one book, one television series, one album, and one video-game/console to take with you while stranded on a desert island*. What are your choices? Assume the media you choose will never degrade and that you have a high definition television and a consistent source of power. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. ⠀ ⠀ *No trilogies.
MetaLikeTheBackofMyHand
End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. I want to hear about some "thing" that you've experienced over and over and over again. Maybe it's a book you keep re-reading, or a movie you've seen 100+ times, or a video game you play constantly, or an album or song you have on repeat. What piece of media are you constantly re-enaging with? Some thing that feels like the back of your hand, that you are familiar and comfortable with, that you know all the way through. Some thing you keep on coming back to because you just love it so much. As always, be kind to yourself and others. Cheers.
Pony: Videogame category/threads in Fanfare
Title says it all. I'd love for fanfare to have official support for videogame threads. It has at least one club for them (Narrative Games) but the discoverability is so bad that I had to look for a thread I knew existed and work backwards. An official sidebar category would really help with that problem.
Nintendo Switch: The Enfriendening
I finally broke down and bought a Switch. It looks like the last round of friend code swapping was in 2014 for the WiiU and 3DS / 2DS. So, whaddya say? Let's swap friend codes! [more inside]
Lynchian PC Game
I've been looking in the Metafilter archives for a post about a free downloadable PC game. It had a retro side scroller design that was heavy into atmosphere and dream logic with a kind of a Soviet Russia look to it. It only had a number for a title (about four to six digits long) and the protagonist wasn't human (toaster? sandwich? yeah, that kind of odd). I'm pretty sure this was before I joined Metafilter in 2013 because otherwise I would have it favorited, and all my searches have all come up empty. Anyone remember it?
Nintendo love?
So hey, any chance we could get Nintendo (Miiverse) IDs for Wii U/3DS users as an option for other networks we use on the profile page? [more inside]
Plate of Beans, Incorporated
So tomorrow marks the three month anniversary of this post wherein a group of us banded together to form a corporation in everybody's favourite game to read about but never play, EVE Online.
This is just an update on what's gone on in New Eden since then, and an invitation to make the leap from reading to playing, and come join us. [more inside]
Immediate derail material
This is a way that many posts about independent games tend to go, where it is almost immediately sidetracked in to a discussion about Windows vs. everything else. Part of the solution is probably to put a windows only notification on the post, and part of the solution is probably just to move on without commenting if you're a mac user.
Mapstalgia going viral..
Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Gaiden
Naoto Ōshima, designer of such classic games as Jah, Eggmon pops into a thread to drop some history and Easter Eggs.
The Edge of reason
Update to this post on Tim Langdell, Mobigames and the Edge trademark: EA Victorious as Court Denies Injunction Against Publisher for 'Edge' Trademark The court has denied Edge Games’ motion for injunction, citing that it believes that Langdell made fraudulent statements to the US Patent and Trademark Office and strongly believes that Langdell is “suspect,” and has been “trolling” the game industry for licensing opportunities. His actions could possibly warrant “criminal penalties.”
Are you on Kongregate?
MetaFilter Skate 3 team?
Does anyone here play Skate 3 on the XBox 360? I'd like to join/form a team, but not enough of my current friends on XBox Live play this game. [more inside]
PS3 + Red Dead Redemption = lonely, lonely Pecinpah
Anyone want to form a Red Dead Redemption posse (PS3)? [more inside]
Where everybody knows your name...
Massively Multiplaying MeFites?
MeFites in MMOs? Based on some of the comments in this thread (and others, others and still others), it is an easy guess that Metafilter has substantial representation in many a server-based world. So confess. Where do you spend your virtual time? Is it WoW? Is it CoH or CoV? Is it KoL? Is it EVE? Who knows ... there might be some untapped potential here.
I screwed up a link when revising my post
In revising my post, I screwed up the very first link in this thread. Should have been this instead of the same link I posted later in the description.
