🎉 Happy New Year! 🎊
I just want to thank everybody involved with this marvelous, ridiculous, impertinent website and to extend my fervent wish that (to paraphrase Laurie Anderson) 2018 will be just like 2017—only much, much better.

Fanfare Errors / IMDB API Removed
You may have noticed over the past few days (approximately since the 25th) that adding new shows or movies to Fanfare has come up with nothing but errors. This should now be fixed, but other errors are possible. [more inside]
Who Are The Bloggers of Metafilter?
EmpressCallipygos's link to her blog post about losing a 5 lb. container of sugar in her apartment highlighted that my feed reader is short on personal blogs, as most of the personal bloggers I followed have quit. If you are still blogging somewhat regularly (for any definition of regularly that you like), and don't mind other Mefites reading your blog, please share the URL. I will add all to my feed reader. This will also help me avoid Facebook, which is something I am trying to do.

MST Club Video Marathon 2017: Christmas In SPAAAACE
This is MST Club announcing our 4th annual "No Stress" Christmas Video Marathon! No Stress means it's pretty laid back as far as marathons go: feel free to have it going on in the background to cooking, sleeping, football or whatever, or exchange jokes with us in the chat window. The primary site of this thing is the MST Club Cytube page, with our Rabb.it room as a possible alternate if things go awry. The time is throughout December 24 and 25, from 6 AM Eastern/ 3 AM Pacific through to Midnight on the 25th. Come by with or without your favorite nog if you like! More details are in the extended description. [more inside]

Redirect Pony Request
Sometimes I browse MetaFilter while logged out. If I click Log In to comment and fill out the form, I get redirected to the main page. Usually my goal is to return to the post I was originally on. Right now that means a back-back-refresh. Thoughts on changing this? [more inside]
Was there an increase in the edit window's window?
Went to make my second edit in an ask answer (i suck at typing apparently) and noticed the "Time Remaining to Edit: " was 5 mins and some seconds. Missed grabbing a screenshot unfortunately. I thought the edit window was 5 mins... did I mis-remember, has it changed, or just a random bug? [more inside]

Neural Networks and AskMe/MeFi
Has anyone trained a neural network to generate AskMe or Metafilter posts?
...If not, can we do that?

Shout out to needlegrrl for the joyful card exchange
I had great fun participating in this year's card exchange. So many of the cards I received had nice notes of greetings and mefi love. Much appreciation goes out to needlegrrl for suggesting and organizing it. And I want to also shout out appreciation to all the card-senders!

#FavMetaTag
What are some of your favourite custom MetaTags. I was given the opportunity to create the #gayblacksanta tag with my most recent post and I was smiling as I typed it out. You have your every day #science #books #videogames kind of tags (and of course these are important and useful). But then you have those special ones that are specific to a particular post. They're often one-off kind of tags and may not ever be used again based on their specificity. What are some of your favourites?

Another end of year call-in show!
Hey all you wonderful MetaFilter folks! Last year I asked y'all to call in on our Google Voice mailbox and leave a message, and a bunch of you did, and it made a really nice podcast. So we're gonna do it again!
Call (505) 663-6334. That's (505) 663-MEFI. Just say who you are and share a quick thought—maybe a good thing from this weird year, or something you're looking forward to next year, or something you liked or appreciated on MetaFilter in 2017. Or a (short) poem, or a (short) song, or a (short, is this theme becoming clear) joke! [more inside]

Another MeFi author sighting
If you read the short story Cat Person in the New Yorker and the NYT interview with author Kristen Roupenian, maybe you wondered what other MeFites thought of it, because it seemed to be right up Metafilter's alley. So did the author. Congratulations to MeFi's Own Sock Person Cat Puppet, who has great taste in sockpuppet usernames, among many other things.

Known issue: logged-out search not working right now
Quick heads up since a number of folks have noted/asked about this: yes, the search function for logged-out readers is currently not working. It throws up a complaint that is unhelpful but also not dangerous: "Unauthorized access to internal API. Please refer to...". We'll have it fixed soon, but just a heads up that (a) it is indeed a thing and (b) it's not something to worry about. Sorry about the annoyance!
Metatalktail Hour: Dream Homes
Filling in for Eyebrows, who has been busy with Best Post Contest tagging, I bring you a Metatalktail suggestion from mefite sharp pointy objects, who would love to see members' "links to a home listing of their dream home in their dream city (or area) and [explanation] why this is their dream home/area. I love looking at home listings and would love to see other people's opinions and get to know them better." [more inside]

Can we not use gendered insults?
I really think the word bitch is problematic and highly offensive and adds nothing to the inclusivity here. This may be an antipodean thing but it’s a sexist and nasty insult.
May I request we discuss not using it? Or any gendered insults?

Responding to current events with art
The last year-plus has been a tumultuous time in the world. As announced last week, we're changing the norms of the USPolitics megathreads, and that includes less space for parody songs and similar stuff. Instead, folks can put that stuff here. Have you made some art, music, etc. (silly or serious), inspired by current events (from anywhere in the world, not just the US)? Show us!

135: It's A Dang Podcast
It's me! It's Jessamyn! It's a damn-the-torpedoes, full-amble-ahead ramshackle of an episode as we catch up on MetaFilter, talk a bit about the recent US politics discussion changes, and just recklessly chat about this and that while I enjoy a nice big glass of wine. Covers November and runs about 80 minutes. [more inside]
