[Add to activity]
Can we have an "add to activity" button on the front pages like we do for favorites? If so, what should it look like? Discuss.

I'm home
In the What's New thread a while back, I mentioned I was having heart surgery and being terrified. I received a lot of well wishes from mefites, to which I would like to respond, collectively, Thank You.
I've just gotten home this evening to an enormous pile of mail, but I wanted to drop a quick line to say thanks and that I'll reply later in this thread (maybe on the weekend) with any gory details etc. I'm too tired now, but just wanted to show my face.

omg shoes
I swear there used to be a shoe (I think on Amazon) that people always recommended and linked to for inexpensive flats of many colors needs. I can't find it. [more inside]

Fanfare posts showing as deleted but aren't
There are posts in Fanfare showing as deleted, but there is no deletion reason showing, and if I click on them they are open for comments. Currently, Two-Lane Blacktop, Horror Club: Calvaire, and Shut Up And Drive show as deleted (from the top few posts.) Firfefox 44.0, Ubuntu latest version. (I have clicked for community input to see if anyone else has this issue on other browsers and OS's.)

Automatic double post checking with Javascript?
Would it be possible to add a feature to the new post form that checks for URLs while the user is writing the post, and instantly notifies the user that the post is potentially a double without having to hit Preview? It can be a bummer when you've written a long FPP and then discover it's a double on preview. Site search/domain-specific Google search is kind of unreliable for this in my experience. Or, could we have access to the URL-checking system with a user input field somewhere else in the site?
Our Belgian mefites need a hug
Yesterday I received confirmation of my hotel booking in Brussels for a conference to be held soon. This morning we wake to discover that already there have been 2 explosions at the airport and a further one at the metro station near the European institutions. Now, we're on hold.
Starting this thread to ask all mefites in the vicinity are ok.

Pony request: Ctrl/Command-K for new hyperlnks
A lot of websites and text editors use Ctrl/Command-K to insert a hyperlink around a highlighted selection of text. It'd be great to have a similar shortcut on Metafilter to speed up post creation!

Fiddling With Doubles
A post linking to the story of Philip Johnson, thief of the Totenberg Stradivarius, was just deleted as a double, with this previous version of the story - an entirely different article, telling the tale of what happened when the violin was found - cited as the double. [more inside]

Make moderation posts more distinctive
Ive learned here and elsewhere that Metafilter is rightly proud of its moderation. However it took me almost a year to recognize when a mod has commented. The current visual cues are too subtle for me, especially because I use large fonts and can see only a small amount of text per screen. This pony is an access request (to accomodate both my older eyes and my short-term memory issues) as well as a suggestion for improving the Metafilter experience for new users. [more inside]

Were any MeFites in the Chicago protest?
Stirring article about the organization that went into the Trump protest in Chicago. Was anybody we know there?

Color Comments By User
I made a Greasemonkey script that allows you to assign a color of your choosing to any MeFi user and displays each user's comments in their corresponding color. [more inside]

Should Debates (and other unique events) be diverted to Fanfare?
Currently things like political debates (and similar unique events, such as Apple announcements) tend to play out in related threads on the Blue. Since that just adds to (usually) already-long threads, wouldn't it make sense to require that dedicated posts be made on the Purple? (I'm not alone in thinking so.)
Pseudonyms for Mefites' family
I find the ways that Mefites adapt their usernames to refer to other people in their family (e.g. tel3path's tel3mum) really endearing. What are some variations you've seen and are fond of?

Let's take clubs to the next level: Groups
Now that the book clubs are more or less up and running, why not kick them up a notch and make something like "Metafilter Groups"? An online meeting space to organize, discuss, and experience group activities (like reading books, doing online courses, playing video games, learning stuff, etc.) together with the nice folks here at MeFi. Let's talk about books, baby / let's talk about lit'racy

This evening marked the one thousandth FPP for the man of twists and turns. His humble beginning was here, on November 1, 2011. Thanks for all of the great FPPs and links, tmotat.
Sock sock shoe shoe versus sock shoe sock shoe
In the current Super Tuesday thread, an alarming derail emerged regarding the order in which people put things on their feet. Is there consensus amongst MeFites on the order, or are there significant variations? [more inside]
What's new, MeFites?
Lots of great ideas and debate in this thread about how to foster community. A few of us have thrown around the idea of occasional MetaTalk threads where MeFites can voluntarily share life updates with the community here. So let's give it a whirl: have a life update you'd like to share with your fellow MeFites? Could be major, could be minor, could be happy or sad or bewildering or funny or banal.
Remember: Everyone needs a hug!
