Metatalktail Hour: RESOLVED!
Good Saturday evening, MetaFilter! Tonight's topic: What are your New Year's Resolutions? [more inside]
Any chance of resurrecting this favorites pony request?
After a long day of reading the site on mobile while waiting for stuff, the request here to add a "Favorite this post" link to the "Who favorited this post" page (the one that comes up when you click the link with the number of people who favorited the post) made a lot of sense to me. [more inside]
Trying to find a short story about AI and parallel universes
I'm trying to find a short story about AI and parallel universes that I'm sure I saw somewhere on Metafilter a couple of years ago but I can't seem to turn it up anywhere. IIRC it was set in Edinburgh and it might have been by Charles Stross? Does anyone remember this or has Mr Stross infected my brain with a virus?
A MetaFilter Kindness

Survey about sexual orientation of surveyor changing results
A while ago on the Blue (I think) I saw an article about an experiment done where the people giving the survey would either make some comment that indicated they were homosexual or not, and the results of the survey changed based on that. I can't find this article now, when I have a speech on LGBT rights. [more inside]
Please help find a great street harassment analogy
I read a great comment on somewhere on Metafilter or AskMetafilter that likened street harassment to having random people continually going up to you and asking you for a dollar. You never knew who was going to ask you for a dollar and even though most people are never going to ask it left you on edge that anyone, at any point, would be begging you for a dollar. It was much better written though. Does anyone remember this?
resolved!
I just found the book I was looking for in my very first Ask Metafilter post. I am so happy. [more inside]
Seeking ragga video
I seem to recall several years ago a post to the blue that featured a YouTube video of some ragga/dancehall song from the 80s. The song lyrics and video featured a dreadlocked Jamaican who encountered a policeman. I think the policeman called the first guy "Dreadlocks." Dreadlocks claimed to be transporting vegetables to town, but the policeman thought he had marijuana and arrested him.
I have tried many Google search strategies and haven't found this. Did it really appear on the blue or am I imagining things?

is it rude to respond to old or resolved questions?
Hello, I am fairly new to posting answers on Ask Metafilter. I have a general question which I hope is not foolish. I also hope that I am asking in the correct place (I checked the FAQ and also searched MetaTalk with possible keywords but am not sure). My question is: if many days have gone by since a question on Ask Metafilter was posted, or if a question has been marked as "resolved" by the Asker, is it okay to add your comment or is that considered rude (since the question was resolved or the question has become outdated)? I assume it would help members who are catching up after some time has passed, as well as non-members who are Googling for help with similar issues, but I am not sure what the community protocol is and do not want to offend. I am also asking this because I do not come online regularly, and often when I log on I see quite interesting questions that I would like to respond to, however several days have gone by or it has been marked as resolved. Thank you for all your help :)
AskMe about mixed up text messages
I could have sworn that there was an AskMe not too long ago about sending one text message but having a different one come up on your recipient's phone. Of course, I can't find it. Am I thinking of something I read somewhere else, or does this question exist?
Writing to find a post about writing
Or it could have been a comment, about writing or planning a book. It went something like this. (I think it was askme, but I'm not sure).
1. Event
2. Climax
3. Ending
And then
1a. Lead up to event.
1b. actual event.
1c. results of event.
2a. Lead up to climax
2b. Almost climax
2c. Climax!
Showing a hierarchical method of laying out a story, so that the paragraphs practically write themselves.
Thank you.

I need help finding a recent Askme with a list of tech job boards
I thought there was a question recently from someone looking for a job that basically said - "Here is where I'm looking online...is this the best I can do?" Someone in the 3rd or 4th comment provided a list of other job boards to look for work. I think the search and the boards were all IT/tech related but can't remember exactly. I've tried some key word and tag searches and have scanned ask questions though mid-December but can't seem to locate the question. The searcher might have been located near Chicago or the west coast.

Why verify addresses to turn of mefi mail reminders?
Why do I have to have a verified email address to opt out of mefi mail reminders? It wasn't a huge pain to verify it, but it doesn't make sense that I had to. It should have nothing to do with my email.

Help me find an FPP about swarms of birds that darken the sky
A while back (more than 2 months, less than a year) I remember an FPP that linked to a few short films of birds swarming in the sky in giant flocks that nearly darkened the sky. Might have been somewhere in the Netherlands but I recall it being an annual event. The swarming activity made for amazing patterns in the sky. I don't think this was just in my dreams but can't find it through any searches of the site. Can anyone help?
Bug: contributions by userx that were saved as favorites
Problems on "contributions by userx that were saved as favorites by other members" pages: example
1) New favorites (such as today's) are not being added to this page.
2) Clicking on "next page" just reloads the same page even though the url lists it as page 2. Page progression is fubared.

Help! I see this message instead of the Metafilter homepage?
If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page.

Unconsidered deletion
Matt, you might want to rethink this deletion. You seem to have taken it as simply random gibberish ("doesn't really make any sense at all"), when it's actually a link to an online code/puzzle; you've allowed those many times before, and people seem to enjoy them. Alongside the jokey comments (like mine), people were working to figure out the code. Maybe reconsider?
Waiving front page posting limit?
Would it be possible to have the 24-hour posting limit waived if your last post was a double and deleted?
Weird Favorite Behavior?
Couple of issues here. I just accidentally marked a post as a favorite (stupid new mouse). Could the "favorited" confirmation page include a link to my favorites management list, or better yet, an undo? Also, from this this favorited confirmation page, the "Return to post" link is broken.
Pony: front page +fave links
Any chance we can get a +fave link on the front page for each item, especially on the green? (I'm thinking Digg-style, AJAX based would be very pretty, though potentially too Web 2.0 for the likes of some Mefites...)
Visibility of ads
I may be missing something obvious (checked previous metatalk queries) but this post has an advert in it shown in Firefox but not in IE. The advert is for www.ecological.co.uk. Is there a reason for it? I don't remember an adverts on/off feature.
Thanks for adding resolved tags to your AskMe posts
Related somewhat to the post below, I'd like to thank everyone who has started adopting the custom of adding "resolved" or "updated" tags to their questions. Browsing those tags can be very interesting.
Anonymous Ask Metafilter Archive
"Why does eating in a restaurant make me crap my pants?" and 994 other anonymous gems from the Anonymous Ask Metafilter archive. As AskMe readies for it's 1000th anonymous question, the community is hereby polled: How has the feature worked out for the community? Do you ever wonder how some threads were resolved? And at the risk of seeming too voyeuristic, has anyone ever thought about writing fiction based on the scenario in an anonymous AskMe question?
