Then, on May 19, the user “acridrabbit” posted a simple question: “Is it possible that Kaycee did not exist?” Not only were there some inconsistencies in Kaycee’s story—some odd-sounding descriptions of how the doctors talked about leukemia, the difficulty people were having in finding an address for flowers and cards—but it also appeared that nobody had ever met Kaycee in person.

According to the responses to this AskMe question
, MetaFilter is home to 15+ regular users who score at least three standard deviations away from the mean on IQ tests (in the positive direction). And, moreover, these extraordinary savants monitor AskMe systematically enough to pick out questions relevant to their stratospheric intellects, and they are happy to discuss their lot (some via sock puppets). I think that we, the MeFi userbase, should be proud to share the company of so many outstandingly gifted individuals, and that this is truly one of the things that makes MeFi such an extraordinary online community.

In the cold open of the Don't Trust the B episode "Dating Games," the titular character says, "I'm sorry, my friend wants to apologize for the boringness. To make up for it she'll show you her taters." Was this a coincidence or is there someone working MeFi in-jokes onto the show?
From time to time, people who are the topic of a thread register and participate in the conversation. I was looking for some kind of list in the Wiki and didn't find anything. So I searched through tags and found these: newmember

It's The Old Problem: You Never Know Who Your MeFi Buddy Is
- but MetaFilter's own Mr Skallas has devised a cunning quiz
that just might help you find that difficult-to-locate alter ego
you've secretly been searching and, indeed, yearning for. Or, if this is not the case, which fellow member has unconsciously been influencing your every word. The rat! [To avoid disappointment, note that this will not tell you, as iconomy's questionnaire did, which MeFi user's posting style you most like - rather it will quite precisely identify which Metafilter user you are most like. Enjoy!
