Callout for multiple sock puppets

I was searching for a thread that I knew MiguelCardoso had posted. To find it I did a search on his name (Miguel). Turns out he is a master of disguise with no fewer than three registrations.... Tsk Tsk Miguel...(or imposters)...
Is there some way of cleaning things like this up, so some sign-up space can be created for new users?

Michigan Meetup

Just a reminder, the first MetaFilter Michigan get-together is taking place this weekend (April 20), in Ann Arbor. (details within)

Metafilter is a "lesser-known" but favorite weblog of Business 2.0 Magazine.

Metafilter is a "lesser-known" but favorite weblog of Business 2.0 Magazine. That article and Blog Nation are in the May 2002 issue. For Matt's collection of Metafilter press.

mathowie and BlogRoots?

Matt said, "I hope to soon be launching a site that deals with weblog-specific issues, and it will act as a community site to discuss weblogs in general, taking this category away from metafilter entirely." Is BlogRoots it?

Why is my link munged?

I tried to build a (hideous but real) link and it kept getting munged.

How many comments is too many in one thread?

Would commenting Fifteen times in one thread be considered breaking the 'chat threshold'? This question was asked before and Matt weighed in three times. Just wondering.

Shape Shifting Reptilians about to acheive Complete Control over the planet

This is going to sound like a bizarre joke, but did anyone else on the 'Filter get spam about "Shape Shifting Reptilians about to acheive Complete Control over the planet", with a link that leads to this guy's site. It was sitting in my inbox when I got home today, I can't think of where else on the 'Net I coulda picked this up, and if it's a prank it's a good one, but it's so weird that only a MeFite could've come up with it.

So Anyone else or just me?

Jessamyn mentioned in Wired

MeFi's own jessaymn mentioned prominently in Wired article. Or see page 44 of the May 2002 issue.

moratorium on the ME?

Is there any way MeFi could have a voluntary moratorium on Middle East threads? Just for a week, a day, or even several hours? I understand that I should ignore them. I do. I don't post them and I rarely comment, if ever. But I can't even go a few threads without seeing another one. And now people are posting each and EVERY detail...come on, for the sake of some sanity, and a chance to reflect, a voluntary moratorium for any given time?

Why recent comments on old threads don't show up on front page

Maybe it's just that the server didn't refresh or something else, but I just posted a message to an old thread (February 22, 2002), with some updated information, and it doesn't seem to have made it to the front page. Is there a limit to how far back the "Recent comments (on 20 threads)" looks?

Just tried to hit preview for a comment and got an error page....

I just tried to hit preview for a comment to 16366 and got an error page. This happens nowhere else. Not that the comment is of earthshaking urgency but it is pertinent... If it's on my end, yikes, what can I do, in the as read to a chimp version?

A feature like "Recent Activity" would be great o track new comments

A recent comments feature for MetaTalk would be nice. Everyday there are a few comments that are posted to threads older than thirty days, and therefore don't show up even in the category pages (default view). At least untill the older threads are statically archived.

email addresses no longer obscured

Some Email addresses on user profiles - mine and Insomnyuk's, for instance - are no longer scrambled with an "AT" instead of a "@". There seems to be some strange highlighting going on as well. Is everything OK?

Google Search

'Your original search: beer bottle betadene was misspelled and returned 0 results. The corrected search: beer bottle betadine was done instead and the results appear below.' Has Google always done this (ie, this just happens to be my first misspelled search to score zero hits), or is it something new?

New Fast Server?

Gee, MetaFilter's fast. Surely, this is the new server? But so soon, just a week after Matt ordered it? That hardly seems possible! Is everyone seeing a huge speed increase?

April 12

Page of all user weblogs?

hey, remember when matt when on vacation and he posted a list of all the sites of all the users?

does that page still exist?

Request for internal mail system

I wish there was a web form that would allow a member to send an email to another member that is not showing their address. Require the sender to be logged in, and maybe even hold it until the sender responds to a confirmation email sent to their own registered address. The sender need never know the recipient's address (and vice versa). It would facilitate communication in general, and may even keep some matters off MetaTalk.

Was the MetaFilter server down for a couple of hours earlier today?

'Blogging Code of Ethics'

John Hiler has written a good piece discussing blogging and journalism. At the conclusion he outlines a ' Blogging Code of Ethics' which I think is meant to be a work in progress. Whilst I understand his point, surely there are only a very few weblog that actually have the level of impact and/or respect, for such a thing to be relevent? I don't know, is a 'Blogging Code of Ethics' really necessary? If you think it is, is there anything you would add/subtract from his list?

Please participate in related poll

This request for opinions on participation in online fora was posted to an email list I participate in. I thought it might be appropriate here, as well. Please, only serious, thoughtful participation, you heathens.
