It's hard to be a mod.

I think Jessamyn needs a hug. First there was this and then this. I liked the sarcasm of this one and was thankful she stepped into this !narcoterror! thread. Frustration bubbles here and then, in the best delete ever, explodes.

Deletion of post about racist Australian Mayor.

I think the deletion of this post by indienial is a bad call. The continued destruction of all things Aboriginal is a big fat important & undercommented issue, and one which I was looking forward to reading comments about. [more inside]

Is the question to be useful to you or to everyone?

You know what? I'm travelling, I lost my pin and have no way of pulling cash. Of course I tried to use paper to discover my pin. My last resort is Ask Mefi, I'm getting some good help, and then my post gets deleted. Well, I'm deleting my account, I'm tired of this. [more inside]

White people on Metafilter

I think it's deleting this link twice shows that Metafilter mods don't have a sense of humour about themselves.

Rethinking comment deletion

I'm seeing a lot of very eloquent responses to AskMe questions getting deleted. Some of them are very long, and while they could be thought of as containing some offending material, the whole comments are being deleted. I want to propose and discuss just removing the offensive parts -- editing out sentences or paragraphs, and not entire comments, so that the "good stuff" can remain. [more inside]

No Talkin' Bout Women on the Blue!

It may have been a "crappy fight-starter of an op-ed", but seems like people were discussing it in a civil fashion. There was no good reason to delete this thread. [more inside]

'Very Short Introductions' very short life

I'm kinda bumed this post on the 'Very Short Introductions' series was deleted, but understand why. Any suggestions how to get the book series in the blue, besides pushing illegal copies? The FPP had 4 favorites in its brief life and had some useful discussion starting about the best books in the series.

Deletion Stats?

I'm an avid reader of Puke & Cry's Deleted Thread blog, and it got me wondering: Do any of the admins have stats on the most posts deleted in one day? Or, the most doubles (i.e. the most posts on one topic that were deleted - I'm guessing it must be an obituary post, maybe James Brown)? Or, the longest time span without a deletion? Etc.

Why is it only axe grinding if certain people say so?

This post was deleted for the following reason: this is an axegrindy HC post. I know it's election time and all, but it's too early for "your favorite candidate sucks" posts and if you have issues with the way other political posts have been handled, it would be better to take those to Metatalk or your own blog. -- jessamyn [more inside]

worn out the Republican Gay Sex Sting news thing

"...I think we've pretty much worn out the Republican Gay Sex Sting news thing." - cortex I disagree, but oh well. It did seem to have some interesting conversation going on. I just kinda think that if we allow newsfilter posts at all then we're always going to have this sort of thing.

Killing Joke thread killed

FPP Deletion Cortex, I'm protesting your deletion of PSmealey's Killing Joke FPP . I thought it was very worthwhile regardless of the fact that PS decided to post the Wiki piece on the band. Methinks this is perhaps a case of a too itchy trigger finger, no?

Michael Vick posts

The Michael Vick plea is a pretty big deal. He's probably going to be banned from football. Why all the deletions of the Michael Vick FPP's? This is, if not on the same level, at the least very close to Pete Rose being banned from baseball. Plus the juicy dog fighting thing, of course. The deletions seem really administrator-specific. Though you may not like sports, lots of people on Metafilter do.

Emotional Intelligence post deleted, but why?

I'm curious why my carefully researched post about emotional intelligence -- the culmination of a three-month ordeal I suffered that I honestly think needed to be shared -- was deleted. Most of the links were articles that were no more than two weeks old, and there was a lot of activity in the comments. True, there was a previous post about the subject, but its main link was dead. Considering the trivial subjects of my other posts, I'm surprised that this one was taken down.

Linking to Deleted Posts?

Something about the most recent Alberto Gonzales post really irks me: people linking to their deleted posts in comments. It seems to me that this (a) just fundamentally defeats the point of the deletion, (b) lowers the incentive to make a good post in the first place -- since you can always link to it if it gets canned, and (c) is contrary to at least the tacit reasons underlying the no-double-post policy. (Obviously, there's a separate PoliticsFilter issue here, and the problems are related, but I would like to focus on the linking-to-deleted-posts issue and get a clarification on it.)

Existential other or something

I could swear I saw an FPP arguing that Dubaya isn’t really there at all in the conventional sense of being there. Then I left and came back, and it wasn’t there anymore. So is this an in joke with the moderators or what?

Corrected link

As I was previewing the corrected link for this post, the post was deleted. Of course Jessamyn had no way of knowing, but it's emphatically not a "snuff film". Perhaps it wouldn't have been deleted with such alacrity if someone else had posted it.

So they delete my question without reading it

I think the moderators should please actually READ the question before deleting it. I asked a valid question about dinner table conversation, and the moderator deletes it on reading the word "troll". I cry unfair!

Bears, baby. All the way, bears.

Seriously guys, he just wants a name.

The poster of this question has clearly stated, "I'm not trying to solve their problems, I'm looking for specific recommendations for a marriage counselor. You know, like a name. If I wanted advice about 'how do I deal with my friends' psychotic marriage problems,' that's the question I'd have asked." I've flagged the responses that judged the poster rather than answering the question, and several of those comments were deleted, but many of them remain. I'm curious about where that line was drawn. Also, if people really feel the need to question the poster's judgment, hopefully they can do it here and leave the thread with less noise.

Squishies gone missin

This is my first time posting to the gray, but I thought the swift deletion of the 7/11 - Kwik - e - Mart story was uncalled for. I expected to see some discussion of the odd marketing being done, as the cost for this were picked up by 7/11, not Fox studios. Granted, there was the previous post about the movie site going live, but this felt worthy of being a post, and it didn't even link to YouTube!

Censorship anyone?

My post "Hollywood or Bust" was deleted because someone thought it was too much like a chat topic. However, you allowed a post on MetaFilter that linked to an article describing the narcissism that threatens to lead a whole generation into the illusion that fame is not only within their reach, but is an unquestionably desirable goal. As someone who lives in this world and is as exposed to the media as much as anyone else, I wished to question this prevailing assumption and thought others might wish to share their thoughts as well. I am not the only one who has had their posts censored. I see a lot of pretentious bullying going on and it will ruin this web community. Have a little more imagination and tolerance, maybe see where things go before you jump in and pull the plug. Perhaps I will not be missed if I leave this site and never return (you have my $5 right?), but I doubt I will be the last one to do so.
