Can the checkmark for best answer be a link?
Can we make this a link:
? Cuz I always try to click on it whenever I see it, and it's driving me a little nuts. And it would be super convenient and save me a little scrolling when I just want to see the Best Answer. Yeah. Ponies!

Is there a way to get MeFi to open links in a new tab
Is there a way to get MeFi to open links in a new tab, rather than a new page or on the same tab? (mozilla) I apologize in advance for being a klewles n00b.
(even though I've been a member for five years...)
I mean, other than right-clicking. Like, automatic-like.

What's the policy on removing links?
Policy clarification question: Matt deleted a link to revisionist.org. I'm not necessarily opposed to this, but I do have a few questions: a) What is the history of link removal from FPP - not modification, like adding a NSFW, but under what circumstances are links actually removed? b) When a link is removed for political reasons, what is the rationale behind the removal? New window preference tweak
Maybe this has been discussed, but Can we make it so only external (non *.metafilter.com) links open in a new window? I like the preference setting for new window but it can be annoying when it's a metafilter section (i.e. a contact).

Can we auto-add http:// to links?
Small, but unlikely pony request: When a user creates a link to an external site, but forgets the "http://", a MeFi error page results. It would be helpful if the system scanned the links in a post and tried to detect these orphaned links.
Mailto:s in posts, acceptable or not?

Knowledge building over time.
An interesting aspect of the "filtration" on MetaFilter is chronological; and this aspect I think is often ignored, overlooked, or deprecated. [moronic inside]
How do I search for links on Metafilter?
This might be a pony request, I'm not sure, though...
While doing a bit of research for a possible FPP in the blue, (to avoid posting something that already had been) I was wondering if there was a way to search MeFi for given links.
In other words, say I found some new, interesting information about a widget that had already been discussed on MeFi - sort of a follow-up, hey, lookit what they're doing now-kind-of-thing.
Is there any way to quickly check if the sites I found had already been linked without reading through pages and pages of comments and multiple threads to make sure it hadn't already happened on MeFi? A straight URL checker or something? Or is there a search-engine technique I'm ignorant of that would prove useful. Finally, should I have taken this to AskMeFi?

Content or quality?
I'm confused. What is more important to mefites, actually responding to the content of FPPs, or rating their quality? I see a general (hence, no links in this question) preponderance to the former. It seems that many responses to posts are actually rating the quality of it and/or the poster, rather than the content of the FPP. I've read a lot of the sites about Metafilter and maybe I'm missing a concept or something.
I am truly not trying to be a smartass, I'm genuinely interested in understanding this. Thanks.

"Newer" link at FPP bottom is broken.
The "newer" link at the bottom of FPP #19 leads to #24 (Download Abiword) which doesn't exist. The "older" link from #25 also points to #24. Shouldn't #19 link to #25 and vice versa?
MetaTalk RSS feed links point to MeFi not MeTa
The MetaTalk RSS feed is slightly misguided. Links point to MetaFilter threads of the same #, not the correct MeTa thread.
Preview on the main page keeps wrecking my FPP

How do I link to an earlier comment in a thread?
I am trying to post within a thread, with a link to an earlier comment within the same thread. I'm not sure how to do it. I can link to the thread but it then starts at the top of the thread, not at the part of the thread I want.
Should fpps go to a coral cache link?
Not sure if this has been suggested before (searching on MeTa currently isn't working), but I'll suggest now that FPPs go through a little post-processing to add a coral cache link to all outbound links in the FPP. It might make sense to have this be an option the post author can click on/off (CNN doesn't need to be protected from traffic, some dude with a Geocities page does).
Something equivalent to this could be handled on the client side, using some Javascript or a Greasemonkey extension, I suppose, but handling on the server side would be more universal.

Can we get the 'post a new thread' link dimmed
Can we get the 'post a new thread' link dimmed if we haven't waited enough days? (particularly for meta and ask).
taxonomy for mefi posts
Is there a taxonomy for mifi posts? Specifically, posts like this and posts like this are inherently different in how they are made.
The first one describes the post with links, and the second describes links in the post. Am I stupid for even thinking about this?

Why isn't there a donation link on the front page?
Why isn't there a donation link on the front page? Something Awful has been raising $3 grand for the Red Cross every hour.
posting each day instead of every 24 hours
What if instead of being able to post a link every 24 hours, we simply post ever metafilter day? That would take away the need to count down the hours, make posting easier, and still have the same limiting effect.
entrance examination
Do we need some kind of entrance examination on sign-up to make sure Metafilter members actually know how to make hyperlinks?
Biking to a lemon party
Is anyone else having, ahem, a problem (to be euphamistic) with the links on this FPP?
It's not ok to link to NAMBLA
"A link to NAMBLA is just wrong". I agree. At least on the front page, it's wrong. (more inside)
Bad use of links in posts
Something odd happened when I tried to post this comment
Something odd happened when I tried to post this comment. I got an error message, something about timing out. I hit back, preview and post again. And now it's a strange truncation.
Did I screw something up? Or is it just a MeFi glitch?

New feature: page through MetaTalk
New Feature: you can page through MetaTalk with the links at the bottom of the page, and the new comment counts should continue to function in older pages. Much simpler and easier than digging through archives and if this works as expected for most everyone, it will also be applied at Ask MeFi and MeFi
Etc | Metafilter page has some moribund links.

Can we have a 'via' field on the posting page?
Minor feature request: a via field on the blue's posting page. As part of the redesign, I'd love to see an optional field for including a "via" link. Two reasons: (1) it would encourage posters to acknowledge the source of the link, if applicable; and (2) it would allow some interesting statistics to be generated from the aggregation of via data.
Non-obvious links in posts
what? posts around here have often had lots of extra links about a topic, but is it too much to ask that the text of a post at least make sense? Personally, I'd like to get a clear idea of what I'm clicking on (even if it doesn’t elucidate the full scope) in mefi posts.
Username links go to threads instead
When I click on the username in this archived MeFi thread I am taken to an old post with the same number as the user, i.e. the url says 'mefi' instead of 'user'. Only true for the original post, not for comments.
Old threads link usernames to posts, not users
Bug: old threads have the poster username linking to the thread with the same number as their usernumber. Example (working). Example (nonworking). Only in the post; the username links in comments are fine.

Links or discussion; which is more important?
What is the appropriate role of links in making FPP’s? A lot of people seem to think that MetaFilter is, essentially, about discussion. But Matt deletes “bad” links, even when they might generate good discussion. Why? If I want to discuss a topic, why can’t I just go and find any old link to start things off? Or can I?
It’s an old topic, but maybe we should adapt to our new users. And short of a definitive pronouncement from Matt, the only way to determine appropriate behavior around here is through community consensus. So: What say you all?

I screwed up links.
I screwed up. Links I posted here are all screwy somehow. Instead of telling me what I did wrong, can someone tell me how to fix it?
I like the new windows
I like that when I follow a link from The Blue it opens in a new window but when I am on The Gray or The Green links open in the same window.
Do I need to somehow make a setting in my Customize page for it to work across the board or can this pony be fixed?

What is metafilter.net?
At the bottom of every page is a link to http://www.metafilter.net, which is the same as MetaFilter.com except you can't log in. Curious.
AskMe link behaviour
I noticed that the AskMe "older" and "newer" thread links at the bottom of the page don't actually point to the thread's immediate neighbour, but end up skipping one or two posts in either direction.
Link switched to goatse
The link in this girlfriend/Powerpoint post has been switched to Goatse. Just a warning for those of you that may have subsequently posted it to your own blogs, or mailed it to your boss or something.
I got spammish mail post-posting.
I posted a link. Shortly thereafter, I get creepy spam-mail asking me to post links to Joe Blow's slightly-related site. I ignore. Not long, though, until link appears in comments. Does this ever happen to anyone else?
This AskMe has torrents for answers.
Too many New Yorker links?
New Yorker Filter? I've noticed a fairly steady stream of posts to New Yorker articles. Now, I love the New Yorker, but I also like other periodicals. People finally seem to have topped posting Onion articles to the front page. Perhaps an end to NY FPPs would also be nice. Or am I totally bonkers?
What have been your best and worst links posted?
A what-makes-a-good-post question I'd like to see other MetaFilter dinosaurs answer along with me: What are the best and worst links you ever inflicted on the front page?
No fucking way.
Entire paragraphs as linked text
Does anyone agree with me that posting an entire paragraph as a single link makes it very hard to understand? I find it very difficult to read these types of links and posts. Particularly because a mouseover event causes the entire paragraph (in bold typeface) to flash between white and yellow on a blue background.
links.mefi Page Not Updating
I just noticed that my little line in the ginormous Links! Links! Links! page of members' home pages does not reflect changes I made in my user profile some weeks back.
Linking to everyone is obnoxious and counterproductive
I find Angry Modem's linking to everyone obnoxious and counterproductive. Could it be possible that one could reject a linkage?
Ask Metafilter update from mathowie 6/14/06
Ask Mefi update: all the questions and answers are in a new database, meaning that new features will be coming soon. First up will be links to all questions and answers on your user page, probably done tonight. Then categories, keywords, and all sorts of cool shit. Let me know if you find any errors in the meantime.
Should we be vituperative about links that already appeared on BB?
Did someone take over stavros' account?. I think most people disagree with his sentiments, but more importantly the way in which he voices them is entirely uncalled for.
How many hits does a front-page MeFi link give the linked site?
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Toosie Roll Pop? How many chicks can a woodchick chuck? How many hits does a front-page MeFi link give the linked site? More inside...
Linking to AskMe from MeFi
Just curious, is there some reason Ask Metafilter is linked to from MetaTalk, but not from MetaFilter? MeTa and MeFi are both linked from AskMe.
Linking to AskMe
Why isn't there a link to AxeMe on the main MeFi page? Is there a specific reason or just haven't got around to it yet?
