POTUS45 on Metafilter - I may have got a bit nerdy
Okay, someone made a (possibly throwaway) comment in one of the POTUS45 threads that it would be interesting to see how the comments/content of the threads had changed since the election.
I got my teeth into that, and after some playing with the HTML of the threads with VBA and Access, I now have a headache. As well as that I've got a database with 48 threads, 139,882 comments (including the posts themselves as a comment), 9,230,306 words, 2,193,898 favourites and 46,692 links.
Some charts and stats inside. Let me know if there's other stuff you're interested in. [more inside]
2016 Election Prediction Contest results
Back in January, on the eve of the Iowa caucuses, I set up an election prediction contest for you fine folks, and got 74 ballots in response. Nearly ten months (and ten million comments) later, the results are in: congratulations to Cash4Lead, for his remarkably far-sighted prediction of the winners of Iowa, New Hampshire, Super Tuesday, the nominations, the House majority, and even Clinton's VP pick! A $50 donation to the charity of your choice is yours. Oodles more analysis of the collective wisdom inside [more inside]
FanFare stats?
I was looking through the trusty Infodumpster and realized it has never had FanFare added in. While I'm fuzzy on the specifics, I am aware in a vague way that the Infodumpster isn't an "official" Mefi thing, though it comes from official MeFi data or some such. In any case, will FF ever be added to that data and/or Infodumpster?

Five days of MetaFilter interest
Out of curiosity (or work deadline avoidance), anyone know why the MetaFilter entry on Wikipedia suddenly get a lot more "readership" or views than normal for the five days of January 5th to 9th inclusive, then suddenly go back down to the previous background level? [more inside]
What's Next?
This thread has been archived and is closed to new comments. We have a new MeFi record! 8185 total comments. [more inside]

Searching for user x bar.
Of all the data that is collected on MetaFilter users, what does it average out to? Who is the everymefite?
Browser/OS stats
Question (and I may have missed where this is): Metafilter is a geeky place - out of a certain curiosity, is there somewhere to get an OS/browser/whatnot stats breakdown for visitors? If not, that would be cool (even if merely in the form of a one-off FPP).
When should I ask my question?
When is the best time of the day to post on AskMeFi to maximize the number of people who see my question and might provide a possible answer? [more inside]

Procession of user numbers
For the upcoming meetups, or more exactly for press and blog coverage of upcoming meetups, could PB or Cortex or somebody gin up a kind of graph or visualization of brute quantities of user signups over time, along with user numbers? [more inside]
Metafilter Stats: March 2009
By request, I updated my Metafilter Stats for the first time in two years. User growth, Top 20 lists, and daily stats are all current, as of last week. [more inside]

AskMe data
Is there any data on AskMe responses? This post generated a remarkable 115 (and counting) replies. What's the record?

alphabetical list of MeFi usernames?
Is there an alphabetical list of MeFi usernames anywhere? I have a vague recollection of a username I'm trying to recall and I know what letter it started with, but I'm stuck there. This wouldn't be hard to compile, it would just take a numerical increment and a simple web scraper. Just wondering if anyone's ever done it. Thanks! [more inside]
Deletion Stats?
I'm an avid reader of Puke & Cry's Deleted Thread blog, and it got me wondering: Do any of the admins have stats on the most posts deleted in one day? Or, the most doubles (i.e. the most posts on one topic that were deleted - I'm guessing it must be an obituary post, maybe James Brown)? Or, the longest time span without a deletion? Etc.
Surveh?
When was the last time we had a Mefi survey? Given the growing number of members, it would be interesting to learn how the demographics have changed (or stayed the same).
Safety first!
Before yesterday, it'd been 280 days, since November 11th, that we'd gone without a Metatalk post.
Site Stats
Is there an official stats page?
Would it be possible to make MeFi traffic stats public?
Would MetaFilter consider sharing detailed Public Traffic Stats?
This appears to be the strong trend among the top Technoratti Blogs - and SEO blogs.

It would be fascinating to view and discusse where new users are coming from.

Statistics Please
Matt, can I have a pony for Christmas? Nothing too fancy, just some public statistics. Boingboing, for example, uses AWStats, which provides a delicious smörgåsbord of information. It doesn't sound too difficult to use, I've set up similar things on sites of my own.

When do people reply?
I read Crunchland's tips on FPPs but I was wondering if there were any statistics on quantity of replies to day of week/time of day. When are the surges? I'm guessing Thursday or Friday mid-afternoon.
Why has MetaFilter traffic spiked so fast?
Does anyone know why MeFi has almost doubled its reach during the past 2 weeks? Just curious.

Posting Stats
Some metrics: 50,000 posts and 1.24 million comments since July 14, 1999 = 20.5 posts per day or almost one post per hour, 511 comments per day or about 1 comment every three minutes for the last 6.75 years.
Profile page answer counts shouldn't include follow-ups.
I think that in the profile pages, the answer count for Ask MetaFilter should exclude the user's own comments in their own questions.
Updated Mefi stats through December 2005
Metafilter Statistics through November 2004 have been updated
Metafilter Statistics through November 2004 have been updated! Tons of interesting new activity...
User Statistics
Speaking of User Numbers, what happened to the population count on the front page? How are we supposed to know where we stand if we don't know how many others are shoehorned into this tiny webspace?

Metafilter Stats have been updated through February 2004
Metafilter Stats have been updated through February 2004. The Passion of the Christ and same-sex marriage threads broke the top 10 most commented threads, within a day of each other. Despite that, February's thread/comment activity was the lowest since August 2001, but pretty impressive considering we've only added about 40 new users in the last 12 months.
User Statistics
I've noticed a lot of threads asking how many "real" members there are. Would it be difficult to add a counter to the front page that says something like: "There are currently x# users logged in"?
Just how international are we?
Just how international are we?
It seems to me all the other well-known and popular American and European community weblogs and websites are far more parochial and North America-centred than MetaFilter. Not so with us. This makes, I think, all the difference. We have (off the top of my head and as far as I know) members from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Holland, india, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, The Philippines, Portugal, Scotland, Wales, Spain...and who knows what other countries?
So just how widely cast is the MetaFilter users' web?[Lurkers: Please break your vow of silence, just this once, if you possibly can!] Me, I suspect it spans the whole beautiful Planet...

Server Error Log Improvements
I assume the server keeps error logs. So, is there any way to edit the error message itself so that it displays how many times it's happened? The idea is that hopefully, common sense will kick in when it shows that it's happened 150 times or something and we don't end up flooding Matt's mailbox when obviously just a few notes will do.
Would it be possible/feasible to share stats among web logs?
Maybe you will even be mocked in a medium that people actually read. Ouch! I wonder if it would be possible/feasible to share stats among web logs. I'd bet that the combined readership a few blogs would beat the readership figures of mid-size newspapers like the Boston Globe.

Metafilter stats are online.
Metafilter stats are online. Traffic dropped only slightly from September's unbelievable growth, and the jump in user signups was minimal compared to the previous month. Days from September and October dominate the top 20 charts.
Metafilter stats for August are up
Metafilter stats for August are up. A huge drop in threads and comments last month because of the Metafilter vacation. Despite the vacation time, the user ranks swelled heavily thanks to Matt's hard work getting signups turned back on.
Thread/Comment and User Growth statistics, July 2001
Thread/Comment and User Growth statistics are up for July. This is the first month that threads and comments actually dropped slightly, largely because new user signups are still disabled. Also, we broke 10,000 user IDs yesterday. Congratulations, Ricci.
MeFi stats June 2001
Metafilter stats have been updated for the month of June. This month, we see that although user growth has leveled off, front-page threads and comments are still growing fast.
New Stats
New Metafilter stats are online. Check out the top 20 charts, the user growth statistics, and the thread/comment stats. The downtime barely put a dent in all the increased activity from the Kaycee threads.
