Remembering the Shire
This is a hugely stressful time for everyone and I'd like to propose a thread in which we celebrate ordinary beautiful things and good moments - something not meant at all to diminish the terrible things happening but to be a small comforting place away from the doomscrolling and arguments and fear for those in, near and watching the war. (There is a great thread on ways to help Ukraine and for mefites directly affected as another positive place)

Metatalktail Hour: SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?
π» How about this?: Glance at your surroundings, and jot down 5 things you see around you. The next commenter spins a story, or a poem, or a joke, or a narration, or a news item or a screenplay or a help-wanted ad or a user manual or homework essay or video game concept or award acceptance speech or PhD thesis about / using those things, or uses them to describe what's happening in their own life. Invasion of Ukraine
Do we have anyone personally affected by the invasion of Ukraine?
Does anyone have any resources to offer, donation sites, etc?
I am contacting my congresspeople to urge them to at least send arms to Ukraine.

A Long Bet Pays Off
Cool news from Archive.org:
11 years ago, on the site longbets.org, a friendly wager was made between two mavens of the web: Jeremy Keith and Matthew Haughey. The bet, to be revisited a decade and a year later, would be whether the URL of their wager at Long Bets would survive to a point in the semi-distant future. That is, this day, February 22nd, 2022, (2/22/2222).[more inside]
As of this writing, the URL absolutely has survived.

Am I a Special Snowflake - active users question
I just passed the mark of over 10,000 answers being favorited by others in AskMeFi - a meaningless landmark that made me unreasonably happy. That made me wonder how many others have accomplished the same (over 10,000 favorited by others) and just more generally what is known about the most active users in the community.
Metatalktail Hour: I can't stop me
For today's Metatalktails, I want to know what seemingly innocent thing you just cannot seem to stop, once you've started. I'm not talking about heroin, cigarettes, alcohol, or dark compulsions — just relatively innocent or otherwise mundane pleasures or purchases that for whatever reason seem to break your self control! Archive link request
The use of archive sites to get around paywalls has been discussed a few times already. I'd like to foreground a request: when using an archive link, please also include the original link. This is for 2 reasons... [more inside]

YouBlue: your own fave MeFi posts / comments
Someone (okay, it was Tehhund, obviously) recently favourited an old comment of mine that I've always been ridiculously pleased with -- a This is Just to Say / Lik the Bread mashup. It's not my comment that other people have favourited the most, but it's my comment that I like the most. In keeping a bit with the idea of revisiting the past for the Doubles Jubilee, do you have an all-time favourite of your own comments or posts?

Food Blogs!
There is an FPP going on that is hot and heavy with impassioned opinions on what a cooking blog/food blog/recipe site should look like.
In the FPP, there are many amazing links to apps, blogs, sites, etc. that work for that particular person.
What are some online tools that work best for you for the best cooking experience?
(I've done my best to add the links from the FPP to the "read more" area. Apologies if I missed any.) [more inside]

Let's play a MetaFilter search game
The rules are simple:
1. Think of something—a notable person, tech product, cultural phenomenon, et cetera—that has attained fame, achieved prominence within the zeitgeist, and/or become a normal, everyday part of our lives at some point over the course of the past 20 some-odd years.
2. Plug your word or phrase into an All Sites search (sorted by date) and scroll down to find the earliest on-site mention of that concept—via comment or post.
3. Post any interesting results to this thread. [more inside]

Replacement for longform.org
I'm saddened by the demise of Longform.org. MeFi is a great way to discover longform articles, but I miss Longform's RSS feed, which was clean and concise. I'm wondering if there's some way to implement a current-longform-journalism-focused feed, or a reliable tagging mechanism that is hyper-focused on only current longform journalism.
Apologies if this has been covered already. I couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Metatalktail Hour: The Sweetest Taboo
Following on "normal things that make you cringe," evilmomlady has suggested βnext can we do things that MOST people find gross but you secretly (or openly) like? Iβm thinking of my partner who loves the smell of cow manure spread on the fields (smells like home?!) and wants to put down the car window and inhale deeply while the rest of us in the car are gagging or turning blue from holding our breath as we drive by said field.β [more inside]

Hive Mind replacing WireCutter?
This seems like a huge opportunity that the MeFi empire should jump on. was a comment made about Wirecutter becoming useless. I agree with the sentiment. Any way to make this happen?
Great answer about email structure
Iβm trying (and failing) to find a great answer on AskMe where someone had explained good email structure - in response to a question about how to get people to read/respond to emails. What was great about it was that they wrote a sort of dummy email to provide a specific example of what they meant. Definitely within the last year and possibly the last couple of months. Can anyone help?
FanFare is confusing and scary. How can we make it not?
Something that came up in "Mefi as a Counteraction to an Upcoming "Terrible Media Age"? " is that FanFare seems like a part of Metafilter that has the potential for significant growth. However, as someone who is generally familiar with Mefi culture and who is interested in engaging with FanFare, the ways to engage with it and social norms are largely inscrutable to me. How can we fix this? [more inside]
