Projects Voting

In what order is the list of users who have voted for an individual post on the Projects site? It's not user number, it's not alphabetical, and it's not in the order of when users actually voted...

Project Archives

I don't think the archives page on projects.metafilter.com is working...

Mefi Projects: I know it's beta but I'm still unable to vote.

Mefi Projects: I know it's beta but I'm still unable to vote. This makes me sad.

Does the EFF count as a user's project?

Does this really count as a user's project? (And why doesn't MeFi Projects have flagging?)

projects favicon please

OK, this is extremely petty..., but that's me in a nutshell. Can MeFi Projects be given a pretty favicon like Meta, AskMe, and MeFi? It's throwing off the Feng Shui of my bookmark bar.

Problem Voting on Projects

Can't vote on Metafilter Projects. No matter which browser I try (Opera, Firefox, IE, Mozilla) I cannot vote on any of the MeFi Projects. I get the following message: There was an error recording your vote. I've done the cookie-clearing logout/login and still get the same error.

I realize the section is still in beta so it's not a huge deal. I just wanted to give a heads up since several other people are having the same problem.

Looking for an illustrator

MeFi Projects Filter: Would any mefite illustrator like to collaborate in the making of a childrens book or books? I currently write stories 3 or 4 times a week for kids. I'm also working on a program in which school kids write to me and I reply in the form of a "picture book" story. (This is specifically designed for ELL kids.)

I have other resources for illustration, but I would love to give the first shot to fellow mefites.

I've got the basics of MeFi Projects working now

I've got the basics of MeFi Projects working now. You can announce your new project site and get votes from other members with it. I still need to fix some CSS display bugs, get the archives going, add tags for projects, do a RSS feed, and do a login/logout line, but it basically works.

I'm really giving away a video iPod to the coolest project launched in the next month, and you only get one post under consideration before next month, so make it count (so don't just blow it on a test post, we already have one of those).

The about page explains the rationale behind the site, how it works, and the contest bit. I'll link it from the other sites later this week when I fix all the bugs that are certain to crop up in the next couple days.

Can i get art project help in askme?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm after a large number (100-200) of participants in a future art project, and wasn't sure if AskMefi was a good place to raise the subject or not.

Is it acceptable? Would doing it here be better?

Wherefore art thou metafilter music?

Is anything ever going to happen again with metafilter music? There are a lot of musicians on this site, and I'm pretty sure that a lot of people are unaware of it.

Also, when is the metafilter projects site going to launch?

MeFi user opens movie theater

Mazel Tov to bjork24 who opens up his new independent movie theater, The Moxie Cinema today.

Thanks to the help of other Mefites, I now have my own little cinema just a couple of blocks from my house.

Thanks, all!

How to create a thread in Projects

Hey guys. How do you create a thread in Projects? Can't seem to figure this out. Thanks.

Mailing list about mefite projects: interest?

I was thinking about starting up another metafilter meta projects mailing list, since the one by Jerry Kindall isn't done anymore. Is this totally pointless or is there some interest/need for it?

We can haz Projects?

I've heard rumors around here about a potential .mefi section for 'fites to share projects they are working on with the community. Is this something that is in the works? If not, could it be considered?

Mathowie has teased in a comment that he would launch another section of the site

Also, another teaser: I'm gonna launch another new *Filter section this weekend. For reals, yo.

A place to post short written things?

This thread makes it apparent that there a lot of creative writers in the mefite community. Perhaps a place, similar to Mefi Music, for users to post their short stories, plays, and poems?

Self-linking policy

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'm fairly new here (to posting, especially), so I thought I'd ask again. Please don't kill me, but:

I've had aspects of a meme-type thing that I helped to create posted about here. These linked to a site I contribute to but, since I didn't ask for or advocate the subject were in the clear.

Now, I've got a site dedicated to the subject that inspired the first game/challenge that the original story was part of. It seems to me that if people here enjoyed the tidbit on the matter they'd like to see the new whole site.

But...it would very obviously be a self-link, and I completely understand the point of outlawing those. What's a guy to do? Is there some third-party I could suggest a link to? Should I wait till a vaguely applicable post comes up and post it in the message boards? Should I just wait around and hope that eventually someone from here manages to find it?

I'd like to participate, but I'm too new to guess at these rules. I'm glad I at least found this area to post in (and I'm hoping that fact will shield me a bit from the flames I'm expecting to receive).

what happened to the mefi zine idea?

While following a stavrosthewonderchicken link elsewhere on MetaTalk, I happened upon this thread, wherein Matt proposed this idea. What ever happened to this project? I think it sounds like a terrific idea...

I am just wondering on how work on the unemployed member directory is going? I know kindall is running the Mefi-Projects mailing list, but is there a better way?

Shoutout for Projects

I'd like to congratulate Jerry Kindall for his service to the Metafilter community: He runs the MeFi Projects Announcement list, which has recently begun announcing people for hire once a month. It was a year old on April 16. Thanks, Jerry.

Any update on the Ticket Stub project?

The Ticket Stub Project still looks like an excellent idea. Apart from the personal stories who wouldn't enjoy, for instance, capsule reviews written by fellow MeFis of concerts, plays, sports events, etc? Is there any chance of it taking off soon? Would each "ticket stub" capsule stand on its own or would there be comments and queries allowed? Is anybody else intrigued by this project?

MeFi Projects

MeFi Projects: It could just be another message board under Metatalk - but I think there's a lot of creative people who meet at Mefi and it would be inappropriate to post projects to the main page. So maybe a subpage for that?

The Great Crime of Self-Linking...

The Great Crime of Self-Linking: some posts are better than others, and the same goes for the self-links--the bermi village link was interesting enough for Me to forgive. This is a policy/feature-request i guess...I think an area here in metatalk where users can post links to projects they are working on--or friends are working on--without the guilt and stigma of self-linking would be a good idea.

Selflink prompts pony request

Baylink self-blogged!

Alright. Flamage in this situation being pointless, this basically just cemented an idea I've been rolling around in my head for the past day or two.

I propose a "metaprojects.metafilter.com" or somesuch location for self-blogging.

"How should I format the ticketstub site?" asked Mathowie?

How should the site be arranged and navigated? Personally, I want to see ticket stub stories of all kinds, and not have it bound to just rock concert show reviews. But that begs the question, should the first page you see have a list of entries by last posted? by category? (thinking generally here, like movies, concerts, etc), or list by author?

Since it's all in a database, the list can be any or all of them, depending on what the user wants to see, but I'm still wondering what the default arrangement should be.

What do you think?

One of those posts that eventually led to projects....

Ok,

Here's the deal. I have a new project that I have been working on that I think might be of interest to the Metafilter community. The project is:

1) Not-for-profit
2) Community oriented (not a personal page)
3) Interestingly experimental
4) Thrives on participation

I've read through the posting guidelines and this seems to walk a VERY thin line of self promotion. I must admit I do want the traffic. But the main reason I want the traffic is because I want to hear what people have to say. I also honestly believe people here might be interested in the conversation as well. How dose that work out? Where is the line?
