comment counts in MeTa

Trivial pony: when inside MeTa threads, could we have a count of total comments, like we do in the Blue? I know the comment counts are there on the MetaTalk home, but it might be nice, even if only for consistency of UI, to be able to tell how many comments without having to back out and re-enter.

can we find double posts in comments?

New member; first post; searched and searched; usual story. Then this comment, by furiousthought, pointing to the fact that my link had already been posted in a thread (albeit, in my defense, long before I joined and cryptically referenced). So I wonder whether the automatic URL search facility which exists when you preview a front page post could possibly be extended to include URLS mentioned in comments? At the very least, we could thank the first users to link to it. Nobody has the time to read all the threads or click on all the links in comments and searches, whether MetaFilter or Google, often fail to point to cryptically described links.

Forgive me if this is impossible to achieve, stupid or has been asked before, of course!

Correct comment linkage

Best bugfix ever. For the first time, the links from my comments pages (MeFi and MeTa) actually take me to the appropriate comment in a thread rather than the first comment I made in that thread (or sometimes a random one). This has improved the quality of my life. Thanks, Matt.

Comments in posting history not in order

Miguel's comment got me to check my posting history (it's an ugly thing to do, I don't recommend it). Anyway, I found that the comments I posted aren't in any kind of order. (more inside)

Comment Count Mismatch

Front page lists more comments than are actually in the thread. As of this writing there are 13 comments, according to the front page, but the inside page only shows eight.

the law of decreasing comment length: as a thread ceases to be a potentially useful resource for information and argument, its average comment length approaches 0 asymptotically. (such as here, here, and here.) other patterns are out there, i'm sure. (how about "giant comment punctuates end or near end of further commentary"?)

Good, bad or ugly? He basically changed the formatting of his comment. Is this acceptable? Can I make my comments any width I'd like? Why do bad things happen to good people?

Problem posting comments

Apologies in advance if this is a really dumb problem, but I can't post a comment to MeFi. Just when I'd finally got up the courage to join in!

I log in, type my comment & press [Preview] and it just takes me back to the login screen. I have tried logging out & in again, it didn't help. Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

This is my first post here too - maybe this won't work either...

Bad comments that end discussion

Is posting a comment like this bad form? I've done it before, and, in hindsight, I think it was a mistake. What about the rest of you? Should individuals make comments that attempt to end the community's discussion in the thread?

Comment Preview Test

The comment preview works kind of weird for me now. When I hit the back button after seeing a comment preview (in IE 5.01), my form is empty. I could have sworn when I built and tested it, this didn't happen.

Is it just me, or is it happening to anyone else? Is anyone getting data in the comment form when they go back?
