Comment about media glorifying war?
I remember reading a comment many years ago (or an amalgam of several comments?) chiding "war is hell" type media as glorifying war anyway, and explaining that real war was mostly boring with short periods of terror. I think the user posting this might have witnessed and/or participated in the Yugoslav Wars? Or maybe that was a different user? Anyone have the comment favorited? I thought I did, but I can't find it in my bookmarks.

After seeing this post appear just now, are there other good recent examples of eponysterical posts or comments? The definition in the Mefi Wiki and Urban Dictionary, a 2007 Meta on the origin of the term which is a fun read, a 2005 Meta on such posts and comments and the old list compiled by scarabic.
Searching for comment on two types of internal hires
Saw a comment earlier (ask, I think) about two types of internal job postings - one where every job was open and people had to apply for each promotion they got, and the other where job decisions were made by leaders behind closed doors and there wasn't much awareness about who was in line. Once I was reading this comment on MetaFilter, and it made me do the stupidest Butthead laugh, and then my housemate started laughing at my laugh, and then I started laughing at the stupidity of my own laugh, and then I read her the comment and we laughed even more. It was great. I'm pretty sure it was a brilliantly lame programming-related pun. I forgot to favourite it. If you know of any brilliantly lame programming-related puns that have been made on the site, could you link them here for me to see? I think this one was from the blue and also maybe from 2015 as well, but I'm not 100% sure. I think it was original too, I haven't seen it in any lists of programming jokes since.

Automatically indicate deleted comments?
We often see people in emotionally charged threads attempting to reply to comments that have already been deleted, which perpetuates unproductive fights and stresses out the mods even more. Might it help to provide some sort of automatic indication (that is, one that activates without having to refresh the page) that a comment has been deleted? For example, fading out the comment to a light gray, or whatever color would be appropriate given the active theme.

On the front page, the link that says "n comments" actually goes to the top of the post. For longer posts, especially on mobile, that can be a good ways away from the first comment. Can this link point to the first comment - or, since that might be deleted, to the byline at the end of the post? [more inside]
Looking for a webcomic
I've been unsuccessfully trying to search for a webcomic posted in the comments (maybe a couple/few years ago?) about a nerd 'Rip Van Winkle' illustrating the difference between the promise of 'nerds then' -- perhaps around 30 years back -- to the comparative letdown of 'nerds now'. Help me find that comment about parenting done right
A while back, there was a great post on the blue about people who don't take an adversarial/territorial approach to their kids' sexuality -- basically the opposite approach of people who tell parents of young girls that they're "gonna need to buy a gun, lol."
Within that thread, I think one MeFite had a particularly touching comment about how he was welcomed by his girlfriend's family, rather than threatened, and so when they did have a pregnancy scare, they felt ok going to her parents for help.
I have searched and searched, but I'm not finding anything. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Some time in the relatively recent past there was a discussion on one of Metafilter's sites wherein a user posted a snarky line something like "Hey Jimmy, don't get raped" in a discussion of an anti-rape or abuse meme/campaign that was current on Facebook at the time. Search is failing me.

A navigation oddity
Small oddity on in-thread navigation: when I click on the timestamp of a comment, it goes to the top of the screen but with some buffer above it. When I use "." and "," to navigate through the page (or "j" and "k"), there is no buffer. More oddly, clicking the timestamp then using "." actually takes me to the same post, just removing the buffer. Am I the only one having this issue navigating? [more inside]

About 3 years ago, I posted an AskMe comment in a thread that I *thought* started off, "I grew up in Hell." It got a lot of favorites, even recently, which freaks me out a bit because the description of my childhood was so raw. Weird to see people are still reading that thread!

How do I set the (new xxxx) number?
You know the number that tells you how many new posts have been added? Sometimes mine works, sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time, it just tells me the number of posts in the whole thread, even if I've responded. Is there way to reset it, or get it to count correctly?
And am I in the right place to ask this question?
